Dave Nonis is still under contract to Vancouver, so permission was needed. As for Clarke, I'm just taking the words from the horse's mouth, he said he would be interested. Anyways, Leafs requested permission to speak to Doug Wilson, but San Jose declined.

The Leafs have requested permission from Vancouver to speak to Dave Nonis. They also plan to request permission from Philadelphia to speak to Bobby Clarke once their season is over.

That 2002 run is his only accomplishment in 10 years as an NHL coach. He's made the playoffs four out of 10 years and made it past the first round once.

Well, they removed Richard Peddie as President of the team and fired John Ferguson and Paul Maurice. I don't think they pinned the whole thing on Maurice, I think they pinned the blame on the entire hockey operations.

Why bother keeping him as a lame duck when a new GM is just going to fire him and hire is own guy, anyways? I'm not going to say that Maurice was a bad coach, but he's not a great one, either.

If it were up to Cliff Fletcher, I'm sure Pat Burns would be taking over as coach, but I'm sure this decision will be left to whomever the new GM is.

He thrives on that pressure. He's one of the most clutch players to play the game. Mats has always said that as soon as he isn't among the top players in the league, he's retiring. He's not going to hang on to fading glory. He doesn't want to be a secondary part, he wants to be "the man" on the team.

Mats Sundin is pretty well the definition of playing for the logo on the front rather than the name on the back. I guess he feels that if he won the Cup with somebody other than the Leafs, it would be something of a hollow victory. Personally, I think he'll play one more year. He needs 13 points for 1,000 points as a Leaf, and 55 assists to pass Borje Salming for the Leafs all-time assist leader (he'd then be the Leafs all-time leader in all offensive categories)

Traded to Toronto essentially for Wendel Clark. Some fans have never forgiven him for that, even though Wendel came back like two years later.
