First I've heard of it. No, they can't. McCabe has a no-movement clause which prevents him from being put on waivers. Kubina is the guy they will try to move for cap relief. The only thing that might give this some merit is that the Leafs are carrying 8 defencemen to start the season as Staffan Kronwall & Anton Stralman both made the team out of camp, but McCabe practiced in a pairing with Ian White today.

With no certainty that Sundin will play next year, the NHL would never commit to it.
-
Leafs & Red Wings in Stockholm while Sundin & Lidstrom are still playing seems ideal to me.

I doubt he'd make it to the Wings on the re-entry waiver queue at $875k. Somebody would take a chance on him long before the Wings would get to make a claim.
-
Detroit should win by a lot more than that. The Leafs are going with a no-name crew.

It can all end at the snap of a finger (or in this case, bone or ligament).....Most NHL players have zero education and not that many of them can get full-time jobs involved in hockey. When you start to realize that your career could end soon, you take the most amount of cash that you can get so that your family can live a better life when there are no NHL teams paying you anymore. Family comes first. Many young hockey players spend recklessly when they first come into the league because they think they have 15 years of earning millions ahead of them. When they get a little older and wiser, they start to realize that it's important to take care of your finances because it's not always going to be there for you. A guy like Sopel might get offered a couple extra hundred thousand to play for Chicago. It might not seem like much in the grand scheme of things compared to what other players are making, but when this might be his last shot in the NHL, that extra $200,000 or whatever sure can go a long way in a education fund or inheretence fund for his kids.
-
Leafs will probably rest Sundin & the older guys tomorrow in order to let some of the kids battle it out one last time to try and get that last roster spot. Toskala starts.
-
Nyet, Kilger scored late. Three Stars: #3 - Chad Kilger #2 - Kris Draper #1 - Andy Wozniewski
-
6-4 is the final.
-
It appears that everybody has.
-
When you have to go to training camp without a contract and you have to fight to earn another NHL paycheque, it probably dawns on a player that maybe this is his last chance to play in the NHL. I'd take the most amount of money I could get for my family's sake.
-
Chicago probably guaranteed him playing time.
-
Does it ever. I said before the game that Staffan was due to get hurt.
-
Wozniewski scores, 5-4.
-
Double-minor to Drake. Too many men for Detroit.
-
Now that's how you hold a lead. Drake to the box, Leafs PP
-
White coming out of the box, 4-3 Leafs.
-
White to the box, Wings PP.
-
Holy crap, Kaberle shot the puck.....
-
it could be worse....McCabe could be playing.....
-
This is a defensive sh*tshow.
-
3-3. Datsyuk.
