http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=343627 Okey dokey! Well, it appears as if the Teacher's Pension Plan Board is 'interested in selling its share of MLSE' and that Rogers Communications has been rumored to be the most vocal about wanting said shares. Just for fun, do you see this as a new lease on life for the Jim Balsillie attempt to bring a second team into the Greater Toronto Area? OR perhaps...getting SOLD the Leafs??? A huge hurdle for the Balsillie camp was the apparent 'veto' that a team like the Leafs were speculated to have. I don't recall if such a think exists, but I'm quite sure that current Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment head honcho Richard Peddie has pull on this issue with Bettman and the NHL. Although, now Peddie has just announced he's stepping down... http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/story/?id=343495&hubname=nhl-maple_leafs So, with a new leader and possibly new owners for MLSE, can this be a golden opportunity for Jim Balsillie to realize his dream? Rogers and RIM have an existing relationship and if Rogers owns the Leafs, do they allow Jim to bring another team in the market or maybe even sell him the Leafs?

In trying to make New Years more fun than usual (sitting in a basement with couples and drinking), I've been giving some thought to attending the New Years Eve game. Has anyone else been to one of these? Do they do something at Hockeytown Cafe after? Anything of note in Windsor that would be worth checking out?

Ovechkin, Kovalchuk heard laughing after Caps' blowout loss
Esquire replied to toby91_ca's topic in General
Right with ya on that. It's just easier for them when OV hands it to them on a platter like that. I'm not judging the guy solely on this lapse but this is supposed to be the season the Caps 'play with a chip on their shoulder' and he can't be having too many of these lapses before the media really take hold and run with it. -

Well, the media matter in a very large way seeing as how they are responsible for broadcasting the game to the fans. So ya, I'd say they have a pretty significant hand in the way a player can appear to the rest of us. And the 'person signing their checks' probably isn't too thrilled with their captain yucking it up while his coach is busy explaining things to the 'useless' media who will print/post/broadcast the story about the blowout. In conclusion, I agree fully with Broken16: "Bottom line, there is a time and a place for playful grabassing and in earshot of the coach after getting destroyed by a bottom dwelling team isn't one of them. Ovie is an idiot." -
Ovechkin, Kovalchuk heard laughing after Caps' blowout loss

From TSN: "After Kovalchuk's New Jersey Devils shut out Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals 5-0 on Monday night, the two, along with Caps teammate Alex Semin, were heard fraternizing during head coach Bruce Boudreau's press conference, just a few feet away." I'd like to see my captain exercise some common sense when doing things like this. He's not just the 'star' anymore, he's the captain. And as such, his behaviour reflects on his whole team and NOT just him anymore. It also relfects on management now since they named him captain. Again, not a huge deal, but why give the media anything to run with? Especially since you just got your asses handed to you by one of the lowest scoring teams in the NHL. I hope you're kidding about that last part because that would imply that 80% of the NHL would be happy to be on pace or finish with 41 points in 82 games would it not? -

While I may agree with the last part somewhat, you just don't behave like that in front of your coach with media present. It's just bad form whether you 'run' the team or not.
