Thanks for the clarification!

I was just curious if would have been possible to sign $6 million a season for 4-5 years, then re-sign for the same thing. I'm not exactly an expert on the cap issues but I get the "good faith" part. I just need to be shown the financial benefits of signing long term off the bat. Thanks!

Question: If Z is committed to the Wings as it appears, why wouldn't he sign a couple short term contracts for the same amount instead of putting the Wings on the hook for 12 years?
-
Confirmed now apparently... http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=264864&...s=headlines_nhl THANK YOU KEN HOLLAND AND THANK YOU Z!!!

Thread of the YEAR! EPIC!

Can someone provide a link to where it documents Crosby having talked to Buttman in private?

I feel bad for Bettman now... ...because when he hands the Cup over to Lidstrom this summer it's going to be awkward.

So here's the deal... I want to attend another Wings game this season (obviously!) but it will have to be at the end of the season...literally. The last and only chance I'll have to see them play will be their last home game which is April 11th. The reason for this is because I have to travel from Toronto. So my question is this; would it be more advisable to get tickets to this game or just wait until the playoffs? How much were playoff tickets last year and how easy was it to get them? Thanks!

http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/#clip132488 I'll never get sick of seeing that #1 goal.

Thanks for all the feedback! I'm leaning towards playoffs now it looks like. Even if it happens to start mid-week I think I'll take a couple days off work and make the pilgrimage to Detroit for the start of the playoffs. After all, at least I'll be able to gloat to my Leaf loving friends that I got to see my team at home in the playoffs! HA! Is it too early to start organizing a pre-game party among board members?
-
The issue I have is that since I have to travel in from out of town I would like to see a game on a Saturday so I can leave Saturday morning and head home Sunday afternoon kinda thing. If the playoffs start during the week I might be screwed. Ah well, I may just happen to come down with a 24-hour flu around mid April.

Here's a picture of me at the Hockeytown Cafe on my birthday trip to see the Wings vs. Devils, proudly holding my new purchase!

I remember watching Hagman's goal that night and thinking, "Oh my god! Brodeur is going to MURDER him for that snowjob!" :rotflmao:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=403768 I've heard rumors of him wanting out but now that this has been announced does anyone have some insight as to what the future may hold for him and the Thrashers? Does this improve his trade value at all or does it signal the Thrashers willingness to stick with him?
-
I totally agree. I'm just glad I got to see him play at the GM Centre a bunch of times over the past two years because it was a joy to watch his game improve vastly over last season. I was at his last home game in Oshawa against the Sudbury Wolves (my hometown team!) and after the game when they wished him luck at the Juniors it almost felt like they were saying goodbye to him.

So, here is my Yahoo pool team as of today, December 15th. C - Nicklas Backstrom (WAS) C/RW- Johan Franzen (DET) LW - Marco Sturm (BOS) RW- Jerome Iginla (CGY) W - Milan Lucic (BOS) F - Jiri Hudler (DET) D - Brian Rafalski (DET) D - Mike Green (WAS) Util - J.P. Dumont (NSH) BN - Christian Ehrhoff (SJ) BN - Jordan Staal (PIT) BN - Derrick Brassard (CBJ) G - Marc-Andre Fleury (PIT) G - Ty Conklin (DET) I'm really taking a beating in the standings lately after starting the season fairly well. The biggest problem for me is in the net since Fleury has been injured for a long time and Conklin's stats don't exactly dominate head-to-head matches. Anyone have any advice on this situation?

*BUMP* TONIGHT!!! CANADA VS. SWEDEN!!

Already posted this in another thread but screw it, I'm losing my mind the closer this gets!!! John Tavares vs. Victor Hedman...LIVE!!!

Hockeytown Cafe is freakin sweet. Get there early because if it's anything like it was when I went (Nov 8th vs. NJ) then it'll be packed a couple hours before game time. Don't worry too much because they were very good at getting people moving through there and being nice about it. I had the pizza and thought it was great. Oh, and there is a FREE shuttle from the Hockeytown Cafe to the Joe so make sure to remember that so ya don't waste money on a cab. Cheli's is a stone's throw from Hockeytown Cafe but I never had the chance to check that out. Have a great time. My first time being at the Joe with my fellow Wings faithful is something I will always remember for the rest of my life.

In my opinion, WJC hockey is the greatest hockey in the world. I may have a slightly biased opinion since I'm a Canadian (14 Gold, 8 Silver, and 5 Bronze medals in 35 tourneys) but this time of year always gets me going. There's something about seeing the kids of the future play their guts out against the best in the world. Add to that the time of year (Christmas holidays with friends and family watching with you) and it just gives me a warm fuzzy to know that the entire country is watching and supporting those kids. And about Taylor Hall; I'm pretty sure that we could dress the entire Windsor Spitfires and not have to worry about much. However, it's always fun to watch the selection process for the Junior team because only in Canada does this process rival most political elections.

I have a friend that works at CBC and has worked on HNIC a few times last year and the funniest thing he's ever told me is that sometimes when Don gets "excited", in order to calm him down they play him Bobby Orr highlight packs. True story.

I'll give you all a personal report on Hedman after the game.

2007-2008 after 21 games: Wins = 15 Loses = 5 OT = 1 PTS = 31 2008-2009 after 21 games: Wins = 14 Loses = 3 OT = 4 PTS = 32 By this time last year we also had our first losing streak of 3 games. However, we have yet to record back-to-back regulation loses THIS season! Oh, we also had a 9 game win streak by this time last year too. All I'm saying is that there's a lot of doomsday talk round these parts lately and just thought I'd give my perspective on it. GO WINGS!!!
