    Nyquist needs to stay here

Bert doesn't make the lines, Babcock does. And, he bases them (supposedly) on a "what have you done for me lately" basis which means that, unless your name is Pavel Datsyuk, you're always going to be up and down the depth chart. Saying he is a "first line player" changes day-to-day. Also, those 36 pts (and +25 rating) cost all of $2 million dollars. So yes, I think that is very acceptable. The Blues top point producer (Backes) has a whopping 53 pts but I don't hear too many complaints about him or guys like Berglund and Perron who have the same amount of points as Bert, get paid the same, play top line, and are much younger than Bert. The Blues are winning because everyone is playing their role and when you win, nobody gives a s*** how many points you have or where you are in the depth chart. Bottom line is, everyone has a role to play and Bert is doing his very well. If your main gripe about this Wings team is how well Bert is doing, I think you need to redirect your attention elsewhere.

    Early Off-Season Thread

IMO, these are the only two points anyone should be concerned about at this point. We're also assuming there will actually be a season next year.

Do Maple Leaf fans deserve better?

Well, that does it. Toast. Glad the NHL chose them to play the Wings in the Winter Classic.

    JUCK UCKING POTT!

Right, because gaining confidence is completely overrated in snapping a losing streak right before heading into the post season.

Devastating, but take a pass on the rest of the year and rehab the knee please. Can't afford anything less than 100%.

Fun Fact: Reilly Smith (his brother) just got the nod for top 10 finalists for the 2012 Hobey Baker. He's got 27 goals as a junior.

    Grabovski re-signs with Toronto

Yup, the coach in Toronto was certainly the only problem and not the GM.

    Cleary, Bertuzzi, Hudler and Franzen

Bottom line: On a team with the world's best player (Datsyuk) and the worlds' hardest working player (Helm), the rest of the team is going to look like s*** unless they're putting up career best numbers. Everyone's got a role to play, and by looking at the standings, they're playing it pretty well. Sure, some guys might not be putting up career numbers, but I can't think of a year that every single player on a team justified their salary/cap hit.* "That's the way she goes, boys. Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't cause that's the f***in way she goes" *Edit: Of course, an argument can always be made for a players salary by winning the Cup I suppose.

" Ya, but that s*** cray. And if Healey's "salary rollback" comment comes true, s***'s about to get real in the NHL.
