it is what it is. you have to get beyond it in order to win. you can't fight city hall. there's no use in getting wrapped up in something that's beyond your control. you just have to keep your feet moving and the calls will come. the game is won on the ice not in the box. you just have to take it one day at a time, and good lord willing put some pucks in the net. [i may have missed a few in there]

congrats on the baby! my wife is due with our first, a girl too, in 3 weeks now. I've been trying to convince her, but I dont think I will successfully be able to name her Connie Smythe !

so if not fighting and hitting less for the first 60 games = coasting, then which teams dont coast for all 82 games, and how has that worked out for them? I think that while your penchant for the physical game may be a preference you are entitled to, it may be shortsighted. The goal of the season is to win the cup, right? Would you honestly rather see the Wings play like the Ducks and lose in the conference semis like the Ducks?

Of course you do have to take it into consideration, but Mike Vernon also had a boatload of talent in front in 1997 of him and took home the hardware. In lieu of a clear winner, the goalie is always a fair candidate. If Sid continues to put up numbers though, it will be tough to pry it from his small girlish hands.

I always wondered what runs through his head as a coach. His hockey frame of reference is so different from everyone else's because he was always in a different class from everyone else. I actually think that would make it more difficult to relate to the players. I can see being able to coach people who are better than you, but it must be like coaching kids to him.

well put. i agree. the Wings have been slow out of the gate for many if not most games this post season. Ozzie has been the best player in Red for every first period. People think if the big saves are made early in the game they are somehow less important. He has been the ONLY Wing who has consistently started games well. ***edited to attribute quote reference

with all the scoring punch the Wings have, they don't need Leino to come in and save the day. they need someone faster on the transitions so they can continue with the odd man attacks they were getting in game 1. *** - i would love to see more Finns in the lineup too, but they just don't need him (this round).

he definitely has the offensive capability, but I thought he looked a little behind the pace on the backcheck in the games he was called up for. With Chicago's stretch passing, that may be a little risk. Who would sit? Abdelkader? I would think speed is what we want.
