check that... When in Jersey City: 1) Wallet in the front pocket, 2) Try to ignore the trash 3) Take valuables out of car. I am in downtown JC as well. Have you been to the Prudential Center?

Anyone else just see Dan Boyle get his bell rung against the glass and go down? No one stood up for him at the time but Blake dropped the gloves on the following faceoff. He got Winnik's jersey over his head and didn't even throw a punch. What was the point of that? edited because i don't proofread

most of the Wings do NOT fight. in fact, some of the wings barely have a physical presence. a good few of the wings are relatively small. having an enforcer sometimes sparks the opponent's general physical game which is generally speaking not the wings' forte. i just dont think the added physical attention brought on the rest of this team by an enforcer would necessarily affect the outcome of the game, much less keep them safe and healthy BEFORE THE ALL STAR BREAK. on the other hand, this time of year most opponents are fired up for the playoffs or fighting for a spot and the physical game will be there like it or not. an enforcer would hopefully keep things from getting too chippy and help the team mentally transition towards the physical play of the second season (whether the enforcer will be there or not). did anyone else notice how chippy the Blues got when Downey and Cam Janssen were in the box after that great fight last week? sure the Wings won 5-0 that time but that was the type of game in which the wings players were more rather than less likely to get hurt because of the actions of an enforcer. i'm not saying that is such a bad thing though. again - like it or not - this is the type of play the team will have to contend with down the stretch, so it seems like the right time to step it up. my $0.02

Filppula has the most Even Strength points after Z, D, Hossa

Remind me - why does Dan Cleary get a pass in all this discussion? His numbers are very similar to Fils, as is his cap hit. -

Well how do you figure you know what he is supposed to do? By putting up the 4th most even strength points is he doing something wrong? He has the 12th most ice time on the power play - 7th among forwards. Where do you think his additional points should be coming from? Maybe you think Babcock isn't doing what he is supposed to by failing to put him out on the PP. I think maybe they know what they're doing. -
Lidstrom looking up at Weber, Boyle in latest rankings There's a lot of hockey to be played, so I wouldn't rule out the Captain.

It's my new mantra But really, I think we are all expecting some better team defense to actually be a reality at some point. It's not like he is out of the hunt at all. Call me an optimist, but +11 with the team defense they've been playing is nothing to scoff at. If they turn that around as a team his +/- will take off. The point production is where he would need to pick it up, especially to shake off the defensive stink of the first 30. -
I was just looking at his goals over the last year or so on NHL.com (I love that!) and the vast majority of them came from the transition game, which this year has been comparatively struggling. It appears to me that his strengths just may play better against a different opposition defense than they've been seeing lately. He's just going to have to figure out how become a better dump-and-chase forward and create opportunities in offensive zone setups, out of corner scrums, etc because it looks like no team worth their salt is going to let them waltz through the neutral zone anymore. Does the fact that he's struggling this year make him a bad player? No. Does it mean that he is overpaid? Maybe - his adaptability remains to be seen. I hope so - he's a Wing and I'm Finnish by heritage, so I gotta root for the guy .

I think what people notice most is that he has at times been prone to hesitation in pulling the trigger on the point and would consequently have shots blocked. I've cursed his name plenty of times for the outnumbered attacks he generated - that's the sort of thing people remember too. Also he has on occasion had passes intercepted because he made them standing still. These things happens less often these days, but sometimes the old bad habits rear their head. When he keeps his feet moving and shoots the puck he is a tremendous asset to the team. Lucky for us he has been doing that lately.

Not to mince words, but I think the Wings as reigning champs set the standard. Without a doubt those teams espouse a different philosophy as far as size and toughness are concerned, but there are many ways to skin a cat.

I watch on the Center Ice package, but some of the games look crappier than others - worse than the local standard def broadcasts. I was hoping that somehow the digital platform might make the transmission between the locals and Center Ice cleaner.

Does anyone know if the new digital broadcasting requirements of 2/19/09 will have any effect on the standard def games?
