Corsendonk Brown is actually a Belgian dubbel and IMO has more in common taste wise with Aventinus than most of the typical Bavarian doppelbocks.

Hakan Loob and Ilkka Sinisalo are pretty good too.

To me the Eisbock really doesn't taste that different from the regular Aventinus, just with the extra kick. Personally I don't think the flavor is necessarily better, just more alcoholic. Plus it is harder to find and I can't drink as many of them so I prefer the regular Aventinus. Either version is head and shoulders above the -ator doppelbocks (Salvator,Maximator, Celebrator). The best sorta similar beers I think are Corsendonk Brown and Trois Pistoles. Despite going to Germany a few times I can't say I've had other eisbocks like Kulmbacher or Eggenburg.

I love Aventinus too, and there are a few bars around me that have it on tap. That and the Edel-Weisse are actually easier to find on tap than the standard Weisse although there is a great Bavarian bar/restaurant in Manhattan that serves liters and has both Weisse and Aventinus. I'm not such a young man anymore so it would be a short night if I were to start drinking liters of Aventinus.

I'll take Schneider-Weisse, Paulaner or Franziskaner on tap any day over Weihenstephan. Weihenstephaner seems to travel better and stay smoother in bottles though. Schneider is tops for me though.

there are plenty of bars out there that pour s***ty Guinness and misrepresent what a proper pint of Guinness should be. old kegs, dirty lines, and s***ty pours all conspire against it. a good pint of Guinness is as smooth and refreshing as anything. it has less alcohol and calories than Bud, which makes it perfect for having a nice long session. I've spent many nights drinking many Guinness (and quite a few shots of Powers to go along with them) and I still get excited for a bar that pours a good pint.

It should be noted that before the trapezoid rule, opposing players had little recourse besides fighting to deter a defenseman from lighting up your teammate like that. As long as you could drop the gloves you could punish the oppositions forwards as much as you liked. When a guy does that now he will get run every time they dump the puck in and spend the whole game looking over his shoulder.
