I am compiling my responses to Gary's short man syndrome, his imbecility, his principal-like qualities, prickishness, closet alchoholicness, and weasely words. I thought smooth talking was a good place to start while I gave the other topics their appropriate academic rigor. Stand by for full response.

Ron was pandering to southern Ontario and turned it into a debate when he took a side. The entire segment was based on a popular sentiment that if all these other franchises are struggling or failing, why can't Hamilton have a team? To get to that point he had to try to nail Gary on the failures of those franchises. It was hardly an unbiased starting point. What other league commissioner would even make himself available to that kind of exchange publicly? Clearly he felt ambushed (because he was). If anything, Bettman should take a lesson from other sports commissioners and not do so many Q&A's. Who honestly expects a head of a league, or any business for that matter, to be publicly negative about their own business? That's just asinine, and more to the point in this case unfair to the fans in the territories in question.

It honestly doesn't bother me that Ville is doing well somewhere else, but I lost respect for him here and he certainly didn't earn any well wishes from me. He didn't need to blossom, he needed to find a place where he could do things his way and without high expectations. I do however think Holland made a mistake by dishing him before he could establish any value but that was a cap issue. I don't think he was going to blossom like this under Babcock or in Detroit and his comments about his time with the Wings seem to reflect that.

I don't think I can get too excited because I wasn't so impressed with this team even when they were healthy. I don't expect many game changing roster moves, but any upgrades will just be icing - the cake will still be the same. We had a healthy team in the end and looked overmatched to me. It will be nice to have Happy back, but ultimately the team needs more out of Z and Dats and Mule needs to be there to help them do that. Its not like they played poorly, but I don't fully buy the whole "tired" argument, so I just have to hope they can recapture a little fire that seemed to be missing. Flip needs to step it up too. I haven't seen it listed which elbow it is, but I assume that is his right (upper) elbow as tendinitis and tennis elbow usually is in hockey players (including me). Usually that makes it much more painful to hold the stick with one hand, rather than shooting so I don't think his slapper would be affected so much. With a little rest in the off season it should feel better in the beginning, but those things come right back once you start playing.
