How many players from Team USA would have made Team Canada?
kook_10 replied to GONGSHOW HOCKEY's topic in General
I can't attest to who started ice hockey but will certainly concede that Canada was singularly responsible for its modern form, however ice skating was around before the settlement of North America. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_skating -

That is if you don't count gold medals in '96 '00 and '08. Hockey means more to Canadians than basketball does to Americans. It is like if you were to combine football, baseball and basketball into one fan base. -

Marleau and Heatley are also constantly derided by Canadians for being the biggest chokers you have - especially paired up with big Joe. They are all in the same ballpark, but I think you guys are still putting an American asterisk in your calculation. -

Kane is outplaying Richards, Heatley, and Marleau this year. I would think they would have had to give some serious thought to pairing him up with Toews and breaking up the Sharks. Unfortunately, Canada has a lot of "must-hires". -

He could score 20 before the end of the year and I wouldn't care. He just didn't do it here. Sammy on the other hand...

[all due respect and congratulations to Canada, but this is not about them] I gotta give it up to the boys. They were far from favorites going in and they weren't the best on paper, but the effort and hustle they laid on the line all tournament long was unmatched. Well coached and well played, they embodied the American work ethic and resiliency to a T and firmly established Team USA as a truly top tier competitive force going forward. We should all be proud!

What is done is done. There is no point in getting bogged down in things which cannot be changed. As sure as the result, the Canadians will be sure not to underestimate the US next time. Hopefully the Swedes and the Russians can get their s*** together again in Sochi 2014 because that could be an even better tourney if Bettman doesn't throw it all away!

He was crying about Brodeur gift wrapping the goals in his previous post. It is indisputable what you say about Orpik or Gleason, but I think that it just goes to show that the USA team actually played better as a "team" in defeat than the hoards of All Stars that Canada iced. Their end performance was greater than the sum of their parts, while the Canadian team nearly blew it. Canada definitely has more talent by leaps and bounds, and in the end that made the difference only in the slightest of terms. The game was played and the result stands, so I take nothing away from the Canadian team and their gold - they are a team of amazing talent. If ever they were to truly gel as a cohesive unit rather than an all star team then no one could stop them.

you have the gold and you're still crying about last week? wow... just wow. that must have been a pretty hurtful truth.
