I used to play beer league and coach down there - I thought there was a separate gated parking area for the Kings and Lakers. Am I mistaken?

at the least its the best goal ever as far as camera angle goes. from that classic angle you it looks like Casey may have been screened a little. in any case stevie couldnt have placed it any better. besides, so many classic goals from yesteryear look like bad goals today. my favorites aren't all the "best" goals, but Red Wings goals by definition are my favorites. an article about the goal: Long Shot Eliminates Longshots

I like the "moneyball" idea too, but considering most people pick the Wings to win maybe it should be some other game. Or would we get to pick our own "lead pipe lock"? I suggest maybe we do double for NBC games (not that those mean much to our northern brethren).

Leino seems to be a bigger ***** than Huds was at this point. Huds at least was sturdy on his skates and nimble enough to get himself 23 goals, but nimble is the last word I would use with Ville. If it wasn't for his lack of speed you would never guess he is listed at 6'1. Can the Wings really make him faster? He definitely does not have the time to hit the weights during the season either. I'm not ready to entirely write him off for his career but I have written him off for this season. He definitely needs to go down to GR and get his s*** together for his sake even more than the team's. The Wing's need to give him some clear expectations for improving his skills, an ultimatum and a roadmap:

anyway... under normal circumstances I would think that there would be no reason for not playing Ozzie, but these aren't normal circumstances. My uneducated theory is that the Babcock's choice of goalie has as much to do with the confidence of the team as a whole as it does the performance of the goalies themselves. Because the team is so green and rife with AHLers they need every ounce of confidence they can get. Howie's been giving them that confidence lately, as I think the Colorado and Phoenix games have shown. The lazy performance in Anaheim was a bit of a setback, but its clear that the boys have been a little more strong on their skates and comfortable in the Wings system. That said, I can see Babs leaving Howie in until he sees how Z is skating because this season he, as much as anybody, has been the stabilizer for the team. Once the boys out front show they can win games on their own, we'll see more Ozzie.

I'm not sure what that has to do with what I said or with the tournament, but I have seen it before and would love to see it again on DVD. Definitely great hockey. The only thing I meant was that a win for the gold over the Canadians in any fashion -pretty, ugly, or in between- means more to USA Hockey than vice versa. It also means more than a gold over any other country these days. We've always been Canada's red-headed step child in the hockey family.

I think anytime you beat an overwhelming favorite in a highly contested game on the world stage it could be considered a "classic" to the victors. If Canada had won in any fashion it may be considered less "classic" because they were expected to win.
