Ballad of El Goodo - Big Star

As I was listening football tonight I found out what hockey needs.

Add Tom Mees to that list. -
Hey - I like him as a player too- its ok to like him, but could you really walk around town in an Avs jersey and consider yourself a good self-respecting Wings fan? I was just having fun telling him to turn in his card, but sporting an Avs jersey is still a big no-no.

I think he just knows the eastern teams cold, and doesn't for the west so much. I can't remember when the game was, but in the not too distant past he called a Wings game and was just brutal - misreading numbers, calling players wrong names, etc. He could also stand to ease up on the word "DRIIIIIIVE". -
just Stevie Y's limited edition retirement banner, which I framed and is in my daughter's room, and Gordie Howe's "NINE" book.

to me it seems unfair less in the "good enough" sense and more in the "experienced enough" sense. in making a move of leagues like that a player effectively graduates from a junior game to a full grown men's game. an unexceptional 15 or 16 year old may not be prepared to play the full grown men's game that the other guy brought back with him.

Much of the discussion here about the Wings' poor start has revolved around goaltending, potential coaching changes, individual lack of effort, Babcock starting to bring down the hammer, and obviously injuries. A lot of things have been brought up, but I'm surprised that no one has even suggested that Lidstrom provide some benefit with his leadership, much less question him. I understand he is infallible, and as a calm cool defenseman he isn't necessarily in the position to carry the team on his back, but surely there must be something he could add to the equation. Somehow I don't see him cracking skulls in the locker room. Shouldn't the captain be who the guys look to in times like these? **for the record I have the most respect for him out of all the current Wings

Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom calls out...Nicklas Lidstrom? That sounds like the Nick we know.

That guy has 13pts and 357 PIM in the OHL. He also apparently played in the IHL for a stint. Is it common for players to return to juniors after playing in semi-pro leagues? It seems surprising to me that a player could move up to the IHL and come back and play with 16 year olds - especially as an enforcer type.
-
That anger management thing might not be so bad. He always seems to go to the two-hander first.
-
The guy broke his stride when he lined him up, so I would say charging would even be iffy. The kid saw him coming before he went behind the net to get the puck. He had the sense to protect and reverse the puck, he just didn't have the sense to protect himself. In fact, he did just the opposite by turning his back.

They should have let him pound the living s*** out of someone before they broke it up assuming he was going to pound the living s*** out of someone. I'm still not convinced he could do that, all his other talents notwithstanding.

wooohoo 15! a big Halloween and a Wings win! I was this close going against them too.

Well, that's precisely the point. It's not as if a nifty takeaway has the same motivating effect as a bonecrushing hit. It's also unlikely that he is going to take the puck end to end, make a strong move to the outside of the defenseman, drive the net strong and barrel over a goalie for a goal. So given that his on-ice play, steady as it is, can't do a ton to light a fire under everyone's collective ass, is there more that can be done off the ice? We don't know what goes on behind the closed doors, but isn't it time to get a little pissed? Leino is being benched for what appears to be essentially motivational purposes, and he isn't the first. Is motivating and integrating the new guys solely the responsibility of the coaching staff? ***edited for grammer

good call on Gibby! Had i chosen a football favorite it would have to have been Anthony Carter.
-
Seidenberg Montador Hal Gill (in spite of my hatred towards him, his size would do us some good) Del Zotto (doesn't fit the criteria but I like him) Huskins
-
It was a little encouraging to see him put a couple guys on their asses last night, but unfortunately it seems he does that mostly when he is arriving late to the party.

I thought it meant will the Wings get 50 POINTS out of 50 games

Regardless of what team he was playing, he took the puck to a spot on the ice where he was in between all five of the opposition skaters. No matter which way you slice it, he knew where he was in relation to the other team and he didn't protect himself adequately.
