That's clean, shoulder to shoulder good hit (though not "Spectacular"). I think the ref went with what he saw from where he was and Comeau's head was down. Good on Letang to get the shoulder though.

I hope you'll let me assume you didn't like the way he played in the pre-season either. I think he's looked exactly like backup in his games this season, he makes the stops he's supposed to and hasn't been letting in the ones that deflect or screens. The problem is that last nite... every chance the Stars had seemed to go in. It was about the bounces, not the goalie. It was a BAD GAME. Even rookies are allowed to have bad games, even Brodeur has had a bad game, even Roy allowed 7 goals in a game. Osgood will be the backup, he will play fine, and the Wings will win 7 of their next ten. I see more heart from Ozzie this year, he wants to play well but things aren't going right. He'll suck it up and so should you.

He's doing pretty well for a rookie by my standards. He has some mistakes, but that's mostly adjusting to a new team. He sorta looks like a less skilled Lidstrom to me. I'm hoping he starts putting up some points sometime soon, his shot seems perfect for tips.

I personally think their defense is overrated. But if they continue to find ways to score, they'll definitely surprise a lot of people. I'm not sold until the end of the month though, consistency makes the playoffs, not a few games worth of a win streak.

The skating issue reminds me of Leino, and look how well he succeeded in the right system? Hopefully we don't have to give him up because "he doesn't fit"

Howard was battling for the #1 position last year. Also how much more confident do you get when you have a shutout in your first official game back? I wouldn't worry too much, we're establishing our #1, clean slate. 5-6 games each and we'll know who's for real.

same here. part of it was because I was distracted talking on msn and not fully watching/listening to what they said, really got me good. Sad thing is, I actually wouldn't be surprised if something like that actually happened (not with edmonton, but certain players do give off that arrogance)

I see, misunderstood the rule. Plain and simple, I don't like hits like this, should've been a penalty and arm was up before Pominville even hit the ice.

Now look at a different angle, specifically the video and watch his movement pattern. He comes from behind. There's no arguing that, the impact may be arguable, but the fact that pominville would not have seen him coming means it's an illegal hit as of the 2010-11 season.

this. I also think it should be noted that the teams a) didn't have all the large a rivalry and most importantly b) PHOENIX HAS NO FANS. I think the fact that there were fewer fans at that game is a testament to the amount of fans there. Last year when it was Wings vs. Blues there was a longtime rivalry between the clubs, Blues had some fans and Wings had their fans. If you're going to do it, make sure you have teams that are making it entertaining. That said, I think it's a bad idea to have them, one series (2 games) is fine, but 6 teams going over there just makes it seem less unique. Less of a draw for the crowds.

Didn't see the video posted yet, so here it is for those who didn't see the Highlight/game All I know is that my jaw dropped when I saw this goal. This kid is gonna be pretty good, and if the oilers can keep him and Hall (and even pajaarvi (sp?)) they will be one of the best in the West.

There's nothing wrong with what Edler did, but because the head was down he's supposed to just magically back off and dodge him? Datsyuk got hit by a blindside, for sure, this one not even close. Just because he got hit in the head they call a penalty.

If they played like they did Friday night, they would've easily won 4-1 my guess. But I'm giving some slack because of how awesome that Ducks game was. Great way to begin the season I'm sure Ozzie still needs to show consistency before this board lets him back into the "cool" group.

Since you are a fan of both, I'm more curious to know what you thought of the Ducks picking fights like that? It was very clear to me that Zetterberg was a target on that play, and so Dats was more or less fighting to say "hey, back off my man". Anyways, my opinion on fights is that the guy who lands the most hits wins the bout (with the takedown adding a few pts) so I saw Datsyuk as winning that. Also... Detroit won that skirmish for sure, as they came out with a PP i think?
