Howard has allowed 3 goals in his last 3 starts, I'm gonna say it's time to test Ozzie for a few and begin this rotation thing. If we're sticking Osgood in for playoffs, now is probably a good idea.
-
^Agreed^ The Wild scored on awkward and lucky bounces. Not much to blame Howie for, especially when he stood strong in the OT and shootout. I'll take the win and move on to facing the Kings Saturday.
-
Who scored? Who was on the team? Shots? Any wings prospects make the team? Is there a recap you have available for us to watch or read?
-
Well... I'm kind of stunned. I left class with 7:52 left in the 3rd, come home and see 3-2. Things like that just shouldn't happen. I feel bad for Osgood... it looked like he was playing with heart until the first goal went in. He kinda lost it after that, but was still making saves. Ah well, bring the points the rest of the week.

When I looked at the last ten games of January I expected to go 7-3; the team has found a way to scrounge for the two points i was expecting this weekend + tonight; now let's just see them win the next 6 in a row and I'll be happy ; but 5 wins is still reasonable expectations too. If pittsburgh continues their slump... 6 for 6 may not be as far fetched as it sounds.

not counting shootouts i assume? And I also find that a team HAS to exploit his weaknesses to beat him, which is our defence's job to prevent, so I'm confident but think Howie needs to be given a break. give ozzie a few consecutive games, i'm willing to call a resurgence of playoff Ozzie. Then we could be back to our awesome 2-pronged goaltending tandem of 08. (With less experience)

Alright, wasn't sure, but still feels like a LONG way to go on back to back games. It makes those games against Chicago that much tougher.
-
In regards to the upcoming scedule, can anyone tell me if we're the only team that has to travel across the country (Dallas to Chicago) on back to back days? (Saturday @ 2; Sunday @ 1 i think...) Just seems like the Wings have had ridiculous amount of travel prior to playing Chicago... they had to go from Dallas to Detroit, if I'm not mistaken, the previous encounter with the Hawks.

Goodbye CuJo - favourite goalie growing up. Great guy, and hope for the best in his future. But of course... Hall of Fame worthy?

Does it really have to be about development of hockey players? USA won at the World JUNIORS because the JUNIOR players from the states are better than the Canadian JUNIOR players. Don't get it? Junior = the level below pro. The players like Tavares, Myers, Kane, etc. are full-time professional hockey players and therefore are exempt from being junior players. Plain and simple, Americans won and Canadians oughta suck it up. If a tournament revolving around junior players is representative of development of hockey players (which I don't believe it is) then congratulations to the Americans for being on top of the Hockey World (for now). American hockey is starting to develop better players, and maybe with less talented players too. Canadians live and breathe hockey right? That's why they have more pro players; they've mastered this development of players' skills and such. They obviously have some formulaic way of creating hockey players (called practice practice practice since they can walk) and I may be wrong, but the passion Canadians have for the game of hockey is the reason they're spitting out so many potentially great players. Not saying that the American players don't have passion - as those with passion are the ones who made the team - but they don't have superstar players on the team because they're not practicing every moment from their birth. (a huge generalization, but it's a difference in culture) The American players that make it to the World Juniors were also players that hadn't quite made it to the NHL level yet. D'Amigo (?) a Leaf draft pick was on the squad and showed some truly solid playing style. None of the Americans in my mind were "superstar" caliber, but neither were the Canadians. The Americans played with more passion, more grit and flat out faster than Canadians in that game. This is why Americans are getting so much praise - they've IMPROVED - they're not necessarily the greatest hockey nation ever now, but they did take down the team from the country that is. (and that's my Canadian pride at work)

Lidstrom won't announce future plans till after season
SDavis35 replied to FunkedUp's topic in General
It's Lidstrom not Sundin. Lids will probably decide when the Wings start golfing... with Stanley he'll probably call it a career, without Stanley he's going to want another season. Keeping in mind that elbow bothering him last year... he'll have to know how that feels too. -
Strange... what's even stranger is the fact that the website is screwy too. Check out the scores....

Jimmy Howard to start VS San Jose; Brad May replaces Ville Leino
SDavis35 replied to a topic in General
Osgood should start next week please Islanders and Carolina he has to start one of two and work his way up like Howie did. Plain and simple. If Howie's hot play him against the teams that we need a game stolen around (like the Sharks) Just my two cents... I kind of miss Ozzy -
I agree and disagree with this post... Howard played a spectacular game and probably the best of his career despite the horribly out of position stops and spectacular defensive plays bailing him out. It was, in a way, a team effort on goaltending. But still, 50 shots is 50 shots and to even be able to get in the way of that is amazing. But I reiterate from earlier in the GDT - Give Howie a break, Ozzie should start 2 of the next 5 (in my wonderfully amateur opinion) and I hope Howie sticks in the groove. Personally I'm more worried about him burning out and slumping than I am about Ozzie playing like crap and we lose one. Call me an Ozzie lover if you wish, but I believe in Osgood and think he deserves a start in the next week... even if it's only the Islanders or Canes.
-
I didn't even say it aloud... but the thought crossed my mind "Weird season when Homer has almost as many goals as Kopitar" And then this shows up *sigh* There are only 3 players who have played every game this season... who must be kept from the watchful eyes of The Injurer.
-
I'll take Howie tonight but I`d really like to see Osgood make a start soon... maybe 2 of the next 5 games?
-
fixd I felt like the teams were so evenly matched that it was really up to the goalies to make or break the game, and Campbell did exactly that. Great game to watch, unbelievable how Eberle finds a way to score when he does.

Where can I find more detailed player stats from each game?
SDavis35 replied to jeff48109's topic in General
on the NHL.com summaries there's a "gamecenter" tab that gives TOI, +/-, shots etc. Example -
They need to have a "Super Series" between these two, no doubt it would have incredible ratings. Always fun to watch, Canada was real lucky to come out on top.
-
He had a mix of good and bad shifts, he didn't stand out much. He could do better I'm sure, but he was good enough for me.
-
Just in time for another tough stretch! I believe it's time the Griffins showed the NHL what hockey is really all about!
-
Howie!! 4 in a row and stretching our lead over Dallas, nice to see! Just hope Z is back by Chicago, when does this end?
-
Whole practice include battles for the puck?
-
Let's keep it on the dl, but there's a home and home coming up for christmas with em.... 4 points could possibly come out of that.

I'm kind of enjoying the feeling. I haven't experienced cheering for a Wings team that has to fight for the playoffs like this. It's new and exciting
