Is it solely Price to blame? Both goalies haven't exactly done great in their past 3 games.

This would be an interesting discussion to have... Some goalies play better if they play more often because they can get into a rhythm, whereas others need a break. I wonder which Howie would be better with personally.

I love how you assume that Holland would have received a "grand return" for Filpulla. After the number of posters here who argue that Filpulla is not worth 5 Million, why would a trade offer be worthy of a "grand return"? Personally, I'm still a fan of Filpulla, he does good things, but I always feel like I watch a different Red Wings team than the posters here.

I disagree that this was a 1-0 game. Rinne made a few huge saves that we had a legitimate chance to score on. We still suck at scoring, but I'm hoping we can get that going for the next 22-34 games. And Franzen scored with a goalie in net. 2-0 game + the EN.

During the course of this season there have been several posters who have criticized this team's Coach, GM, Owner and all of the players (if not most of them). So, it got me to wondering: Why do you cheer for the Red Wings? For me, I cheer for this team because of the character of the organization. From Illitch to Holland to Babcock and all the players. There is something about the members of the organization that seems to come across as competitive, yet humble. We have had some great players and some great success, and now in facing adversity, the players, Babcock, Holland and Illitch all seem to still be focused on winning. So why do you root for the Red Wings?

So we're hoping for a win by the Sharks and the Wild... and the Flames winning would be nice too.

I don't generally like what you post, but this one is spot on. I think being a GM is far more difficult than what we see, some posters are saying that few moves = bad GM, but I have to disagree. Holland's bad move was signing Franzen as long as he did, that and Zetterberg's extended contract put us in a position where we can't sign others (Parise, Suter types) for long-term which is something a lot of the big-name players have been interested in lately. But in dealing with what he's been left with, I think he's done well.

Though I understand how you came to that conclusion, I used the word critical instead of "hating." Criticism is something I welcome for the reasons you've said, however there have been some criticisms that come across as "I don't like anybody on this team or what they've done"

Somehow richdg came across as offensive and ZforC came across as sarcastic. I just have to laugh at that for a moment. Unfortunately, seeing as I only REALLY started watching hockey in 2000 as a Leaf fan, knowing that Jimmy D was the GM is not something that has stuck in my head. Wasn't until summer of '02 when I came here with the Cujo acquisition that I knew much about the Wings. Cut the new fans some slack, we don't all do research on this team before we start to enjoy their play.

Nearly every team we play this month we have been able to beat this season. If we get the right bounces and play to the best of our ability we can make this a month to remember. So long as the players stick to trying to win the games one by one and being the better team on the ice, we won't have much to worry about as fans. I wholeheartedly believe we will make the playoffs, and finish 6th in the West. I also wonder if this team has an "elite" streak in them waiting to come out. Feels like every other team around has done something impressive this season (Columbus, Montreal 10+ with a point; Chicago's streak; Penguins 15 wins; Ducks and Sharks playing great at home)

I don't want to lose both Filpulla and Franzen (and Tatar added in there would really suck). I just think it would be unwise to give up top 6 players to get Ovechkin when our top 6 is already pretty shallow. Would be incredible to have sure, but just don't see it being the wisest of moves.

You mean columbus who is 5-2-3 in their last ten? Edmonton 6-2-2? St. Louis is 5-5-0, Detroit is 6-4-0. Nashville is 3-5-2 and that's the closest teams behind us. Those ahead of us are roughly the same through their last ten. We had a great road trip this past week, Howard has had one bad game in the last month, I don't see this "collapse" that you do.

Cleary, Bertuzzi can only be considered bad deals if you look at it with a hindsight perspective (both have factored in well to our team prior to their current deals); Sammy and Colaiacovo are bad deals only due to their long injury time (they've played less than 10 games between them if I'm not mistaken); and Gustavsson has played perfectly fine as far as being a backup goalie goes, he's had bad games but I blame lapses from the team as a whole rather than him as an individual. I don't see how we are not going to the playoffs with the team we have... we currently sit 7th and 3 points out of 4th, 4 points ahead of 9th. We can go up or down depending on how the players play, even with this team as is. Our "prospects" made up a good chunk of our team if you didn't notice. Andersson has been great in his role, Tatar scored a few on a team that severely lacks in offense, Emmerton has done fine, Nyquist needs size but he's fine; Lashoff and Smith are a huge part of the reason we aren't bottom dwellers. Sure they're not superstars ala Zetterberg and Datsyuk, but I am not so sure they were ever expected to be the next "Euro Twins" Basically, we don't stand a chance at winning a cup if we don't add to our team, but there is absolutely no reason in the world why we should trade away our future and just delay a rebuilding phase another year, maybe even making it worse in the process. I doubt Holland will be able to make anything big happen tomorrow, but that doesn't mean we won't be making the playoffs.

Sounds like they're fairly active right now. A team that's playing great hockey right now though, might mess with chemistry but who knows?
