The Ducks have fans when it's not the playoffs?
-
QFT Sharks fans know this all too well. Boyle > Campbell. edit - it's late and I'm getting my names messed up.
-
I'm with you OP...other than some time to heal up a couple players, I wouldn't mind the playoffs starting in January. We'll just have to wait a few months while we nit pick our own teams.

do hall of famers normaly have their numbers retired?
TheSupafly replied to ben_usmc's topic in General
Yeah I heard the same stuff from other Sharks fans, but really they were in the minority. That one slow season doesn't erase his strong career with the Sharks. FWIW, I was not among his dissenters. I've always loved having him on the Sharks. I hope he ends his career with the Sharks, which would be an amazing feat in itself...staying with one team for an entire career in the salary cap era. -
A friend of mine that also happens to post a lot on letsgosharks just found out that he won a trip for 2 to chicago and a pair of tickets to the winter classic. I am very jealous.

I never took offense. I have extremely thick skin that has served me quite well over the years. I still maintain that you haven't seen much Sharks playoff hockey...not that I blame you, you have no reason to. Yeah he had a down year by his standards last year, but that was during the regular season. He has always been one of our top playoff performers. Starting with the 01-02 Playoffs, he has 51pts in 64 playoff games. ~.80 pts per game. Nothing Earth shattering, but very respectable production. In contrast, over the same period of time his regular season stats are 407pts in 511 games. Again ~.80 pts per game. There is no drop of in production in the playoffs, and I think everyone would agree that the playoffs have less scoring. (though I don't have any statistics on that) Marleau also has 3 playoff hat tricks. Thanks for the welcome wishes! I like it here and plan on being around a while, so everyone better get used to a loose shark running around aimlessly. Hopefully I can offer a view that comes from a different perspective than what you all are used to. -

Clearly you don't watch many Sharks playoff games. -
Fantastic goal, but really really bad D. Take the body anyone? One guy tries...and fails. Of course, power play units aren't usually known for their strong defensive capabilities...

Now that I know that Teemu is going to be OK, and there's no permanent damage, I feel OK in saying... Too bad Teemu. See ya in a month and a half.

I'm still waiting for my team to have a number retired. I'm thinking they may do it 10 years down the road for either Marleau or Thornton (if he stays with SJ till the end of his career). -
I've never personally been to the Joe, but from what people have been saying, the impression that I'm getting is that it's very outdated and some of the sightlines are less than optimal. The one thing that comes to mind for me is, how would they go about financing a new stadium? Who fits the bill? What are the proposals? Is the city going to pay for some? Added taxes? How is attendance doing now? It's no secret that the economy isn't all that hot right now, and there has been a lot of focus on the auto industry being hard hit. The need for a new stadium is there, but maybe this isn't the time?

Awwww, figurative blood isn't nearly as fun!
-
Yup, though not all that frequently. I have to drive 45 minutes to an hour to get to the tank from where I live. I will occasionally use that as a pre or post game hangout when I'm not super busy.
-
If you want blood, go back to those wings/avs games from many years back...those were blood baths.
-
I'd be happy to have a beer with you. I'm in 212, last row, for half the games. (it's "supafly", not supafast)
-
I never miss a second. No matter what.
-
Extremely rabid. Be sure to let me know if you ever go back to a game at the tank in SJ. I'll buy you a beer.
-
Thanks for the kind words guys. I hope the Sharks put "Dec. 18th - Wings 6 Sharks 0" up in their locker room so they don't forget to bring it every night. I've officially moved passed bummed out and am now at the pissed off stage. Time to have a beer.

Well I must say that one was very tough to watch. I watched every last second of the game, though it was painful and deflating to do so. The Sharks looked great and like the team I'm used to watching....for the first 8 or 9 minutes. Then Nabby let in back to back softies, and it was ALL Wings from there on out. Full credit to the Wings for taking it to the Sharks pretty much all game. It's funny, many of you were viewing this game as a possible wake up call for your team...and it may actually end up being a huge wake up call for mine. The Sharks have eeked out quite a few close games lately against lesser opposition...some of the games they had no business winning. They seemed to become a little complacent and were getting by on their skill alone. They found out tonight that there's no way you can put forth that kind of effort against a team that can skate with you and has great talent and skill also. Had the Sharks lost a close game, one could point to road trips, travel, injuries, back to back games...but there's simply no excuse for a 6-0 defeat. Well actually, there shouldn't be any excuses ever. Wings were the better team tonight, and looked every bit like the defending champs. All I can do now is just sit and wait until Jan. 17th. I'll be at the tank for that one. Hopefully you guys wont start panicking if your team seems to underperform in the regular season again....you have an incredible team, and like I've already told you, there's no need to worry. It's December. Mid April through June is what counts. Now pardon me while I try to convince myself of that so I feel a bit less depressed.

While this is a bigger regular season game than most others for both teams, it's still just that. A regular season game. Neither team is close to 100%. I'm not totally up to speed on Detroit's injuries, but one key injury that was missed in the OP was Joe Pavelski, center of the Sharks' 2nd line. The Sharks have become more of a one line team since Pavelski went down and the other lines are juggled around. That being said, both teams should be up for this one and I still expect a great game. I don't see either team blowing the other one out, but no result would surprise me. Good luck you guys.

Wings got the talent, but what about the coaching?
TheSupafly replied to FourtyThirteen's topic in General
You guys have nothing to worry about. Your team will be just fine. I'm sure they're not playing to the level that you have come to expect, but what matters is how they are playing in the spring and early summer. Not right now. Trust a Sharks fan...I would know. The wings are still near the top of the conference despite these "defensive struggles". It'll be all right. I promise. -
I'll come away from this happy either way. Either the Wings beat down the Stars (most likely) and I get joy out of the Stars misery, or the Stars pull of the unlikely upset and the Sharks get a bit more clearance in the race for the #1 seed. Thank goodness for NHL Center Ice.

I'd like to add that it was nice to see him get drilled last night by Michalek, and then not even fight his own battle afterward.
-
I would FREAK OUT because that's the last thing I want to see as a Shark fan....Pronger making the wings even better. If the Sharks ever acquired him, I'd be pretty upset. I truly don't like the guy. Thankfully the history behind Sharks/Pronger is such that I doubt the Sharks would EVER sign or trade for him.
