    Cleary vs. Setoguchi

I'm sure it was fun to watch, but if I had been a Wings fan watching that, I would have been nervous...not wanting my player to get injured. Especially after just returning to the lineup. Cleary looked pretty darn good though with a goal and a fight. I know I'd be holding my breath if Thornton/Heatley/Marleau/Boyle got into a fight.

1/9 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Sharks 1

Sorry I wasn't able to say hello earlier...been pretty busy over here. I did however have time to go see the game in person. Not too enjoyable from my point of view, but your boys were clearly the better team tonight. It seemed that Detroit won the large majority of the loose puck battles along the boards, and the Sharks had trouble getting through the neutral zone all night. The Wings didn't look like a team that is struggling with injuries, which scares me even more when they become healthy and will be seeded lower than they should come playoff time. Just looking at the stats, it would indicate that the Sharks had the advantage and that was clearly not the case. That seems to be the Sharks' problem and it has been for a while. Stats wise and on paper they're fantastic...it's that little something extra that wins you tough games and brings home a Cup. For whatever reason the Sharks still haven't figured that out. Hope all is well over here. I'll try to be less of a stranger in the future.

    Officials...Conspiracy or Incompetence?

I haven't been around in a while due to some crazy stuff going on right now, but when I saw the play on youtube tonight I couldn't believe it. That not being a goal is the biggest joke of officiating that I have ever seen. Not only did the refs blow it, not only did replay fail, but the war room in Toronto called in and they STILL didn't call it a goal? That's pathetic. You guys got totally screwed, and despite my loyalties I still feel terrible for you. I know what I would feel like if that happened against my team. Fans and teams deserve better officiating. I'm still stunned at how poorly this was handled. Anyway...I hope you guys go on a run and get those points back + more. Good luck.

    Sharks sign Manny Malhotra

Very pleased to have Malhotra on board. He's a solid addition at a bargain of a price. Ideally I'd love to see him on the 3rd line with both Mitchell and McGinn, but Mitchell is out for now with tendinitis in his knee....that kid can't stay healthy so I'm not getting my hopes up about having him back. He was sorely missed last year and will be again this year if he can't get back on the ice for an extended period of time. Malhotra will likely end up replacing him instead of complimenting him.

Tuesday, December 1st. Sens @ Sharks. Got that one circled...

Heatley traded to Sharks for Michalek, Cheecho, 2nd Round Pick

Very true, but he also has a lot more pure scoring ability and wont need to as much. They may end up putting Clowe with those two on that top line at some point to get that grit/dirty area guy that can finish the rebounds and screen the goalie. Clowe fits that role nicely.

Heatley traded to Sharks for Michalek, Cheecho, 2nd Round Pick

It's been a pretty wild morning and afternoon for me...friends have been emailing and calling me well before I was ready to get up. The big move that many Sharks fans were hoping for finally happened. Personally I was kinda hoping more to acquire Kessel, but that being said, I'm happy to get Heatley without giving up Marleau. Heatley with Thornton will no doubt be a dangerous combination. Cheechoo is really more of a 3rd line player and rarely creates his own offense. I loved his scrappy play but he's probably a little overpaid. Michalek is a great talent but doesn't usually go to the tough areas to score the goals that you need to when the going gets tough (playoffs anyone?). He never reached the level many were hoping for and he was also a little overpaid. Shedding those two plus a 2nd round pick for Heatley is something I can live with. It remains to be seen how much Heatley will give here in SJ. I have no doubt at the beginning he will play his ass off, but what happens down the road if things don't turn out well....will we have a repeat performance of what just happened with the Sens? Hopefully things go well in SJ and it never comes to that, as Heatley's contract runs through the '13-'14 season. Just like always for me, things look fine...but I'll never really know until playoff time comes around. Talk to me in June.

    Rumor: Danny Heatley to Sharks

I pray that this isn't happening. I don't want Heatley on my team. What's to keep him from pulling the same BS again if he ends up unhappy on the Sharks for whatever reason? His salary would eat up all the cap space the Sharks have left and leave little room for moves during the season. I can do without a whining sniper.

    SI Power Rankings

I agree that the Sharks are too high in this one....just like they were too low at #10 in the other one. Somewhere in between 2 and 10 would be more appropriate. These writers are usually just saying something to draw attention to their article.

    Wings sign Todd Bertuzzi

What's the worst case scenario for your team if Bert doesn't work out in one way or another (injury, sucking, etc). 1.5M cap hit? I see lots of potential upside. I'm not saying that he will realize that potential, just that it's there. I think the possible positives outweigh whatever negatives that could come from it...and I don't see a ton.

    Yahoo! Power Rankings

Power rankings are always fun to debate...especially preseason ones. All it does is stir the pot. Seeing my team at #10 was good for a chuckle.

    Marleau loses Sharks captaincy

Yeah Torrey still needs to be signed. Anxious to see that get done and to see how well he'll bounce back this season after hardly playing at all last year. He was BADLY missed on the 3rd line.

    Wings sign Todd Bertuzzi

If Bert stays disciplined, contributes in the area of 20 goals and solidify a 3rd line, this is a steal at 1.5M. If not, it's not a huge loss. Way more upside then down. Good move.

    Marleau loses Sharks captaincy

Those of us that cry teal tears every playoff season knew that this was coming. Marleau losing the C this year is no surprise. I would be shocked if they gave it to Thornton...but I also wouldn't really see it as a negative either. I agree that his playoff play really doesn't inspire passion, maybe giving him the C would wake his ass up and help him to realize that dishing out 639 assists in the regular season isn't what this team really needs. That being said, I think it's far more likely to be going to someone like Boyle or Pavelski. Boyle is an obvious pick because of his experience, play, and heart. Boyle is also under contract through the '13-'14 season, another plus to naming him captain. Pavelski is a name that doesn't get thrown into this conversation much, but he has all the previously mentioned attributes with the added bonus of being younger. He will be a restricted free agent after the upcoming season, so if they resign him I think he's an excellent choice as well. As far as cap room and possible trades go, the Sharks will still make some sort of move before the start of the season. They need to clear cap space and sign another forward or two. They might move a D man, and possibly michalek or cheechoo. Thornton isn't going anywhere and Marleau (and his wife) have that NTC. Nabokov's backup is Thomas Greiss. He's been in the organization for a while and led the AHL Sharks team to a nice run in their playoffs last year. Not a top level backup, but serviceable.

    To the Pens fans

Congrats to you pens fans out there. Enjoy the hell out of it, because you never know if or when it will come around again. Your team did what most people including myself didn't think they could do. The fact that it was mostly done without Crosby goes to show what a quality team you guys had. You deserve the win.
