Honestly, of all the teams from above, I believe that the best possible round one matchup would have to be the Kings. Sure, they may have had our number in the regular season, but now they are missing Williams + Kopitar. With Zetterberg dinged up, I believe this would be the best series for us.(We don't need a hard checking one against the preds / ducks) Predictions for each series if it happened: DET VS KINGS [DET IN 5] DET VS PREDS [DET IN 6] DET VS COYOTES [DET IN 6] DET VS DUCKS [DUCKS IN 7] (BARELY) DET VS HAWKS [HAWKS IN 7] (IF NO ZETTERBERG) DET VS STARS [DET IN 6] The Zetterberg injury really makes things interesting in the playoffs, because he shows up big come playoff time and ALWAYS shuts down the other teams top players. Without him the wings will have to battle twice as hard and costly defensive turnovers CAN'T happen. Leave a comment and vote!

97.1 just reported that hes day-to-day and will not play in the weekend games, but babcock said he expects him to be ready for the playoffs. Babcock wouldn't reveal the MRI results at the news conference

This is why I don't think it's a serious injury: -He was able to skate off on his power -He took 1 shift after the hit (Others say he didn't, but he clearly did, and then after that shift there was a stoppage as he went to the dressing room) -He was able to get up after he got hurt without assistance Those are just some of the things that I noticed when that all occurred. Other Injuries and there circumstances: Kopitar was not able to get up under his own power and had to be assisted off the ice. [broken Ankle] Callahan didn't play another shift after he blocked the shot[broken Leg] Just some examples as to why I don't believe it's a long term injury

After the first four games of this season I'm yet to see #40 play as if he was under 40. The way he is moving out there is either a lack of conditioning or he is burning out. Yet weeks prior to the season Zetterberg said he lost 10 pounds and hoped to get a little quicker. I don't know about you guys, but with the way he's playing, his time in Detroit could come to an abrupt ending in the next few years. So let's get to the poll... What do you think? Is he declining early in his career or is it too early? I believe it's a lack of conditioning in the summer, due to his wedding and a longer off-season.

--Mlive.com Link: http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/01/red_wings_goaltender_jimmy_how_1.html The injuries continue to add up, it will be extremely difficult for the next few weeks. Discuss.

I think it's time for the redwings to make a trade... With injuries continually adding up I think it's time to end the experiment with hudler. Hudler for who, that's the question. My Guess would be Sergei Gonchar or Alex Hemsky(Kindof disapeared in the last few years) That's just my opinion, but with the way Edmonton has played the GM may consider trimming salary.

TSN confirmed the news here: http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=348522

Why are you guys saying out for season? Not a chance, cleary only missed 19 games people. Stuart out 20 games MAX.

Cleary missed 19 games with a broken jaw, lets hope stuart can be back in 15.

Should we risk our future for an elite defenseman?
Pat replied to dropkickshanahans's topic in General
Duncan Keith was developed in the AHL and Smith is right now. If we make it to the finals and don't win Lidstrom will play another year, if we make it to the cup and win, he will retire. Modano 1m + 6.2m = 7.2m of cap space. But we still have to sign Howard to keep him here. Expect about 5-6m of cap space. If the redwings could somehow get Doughty it would be a miracle. They need a proven young defenseman that can score/shutdown other teams top players. However, this will not occur as Doughty would require a trade and Picks. This is what I see happening: 6m of cap space Defense Pairings Stuart, Kronwall Rafalski,Byfuglien Gill, Smith Would be one of the hardest hitting defenses in the league and quite a bit of offense. (Smith, Rafalski, Kronwall, Buff) Thats something I could see happening and it fits our style. -
How long have you been waiting to post this thread? Are you trying to prove something? We have plenty of other prospects that are better then him right now and they still have minor league options.
-
I liked the way he played after giving up those goals, I think it was a wakeup call to the team and him. You could see how frustrated/sad he was giving up that 3rd goal and I think he finally got his mojo back. I'm gonna say we win 3-1 and their goal comes on the powerplay.

Honestly, he lead with the shoulder and the puck was right in front of selanne. I don't see how he can get suspended (Not a blindside hit + The ref didn't think it was dirty) I'd be shocked if he was suspended.
-
Maybe he read the forum thread and stepped up his game from this? Lol I wish XD
-
This reminds me of the 08' playoffs with therrien and crosby. And for the hit, the puck was right in front of selanne and he had his head down. He lead with his shoulder but did leave his feet. I don't think he will be suspended, but probably warned/fined.

Just looked at an Mlive article... and NHL general managers are under the impression next year's cap will come in at approximately $58 million if, as expected, the NHLPA triggers the five-percent inflator. That means the summer cap will be approximately $63.8 million What does that mean, that we can go over the cap 5.8m? link: http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/05/sunday_scuttlebutt_on_the_sala_2.html

With Holmstrom aging quickly, and the need for a "screener" on our PP, I think Byfuglien would be a great fit. He can hit, screen, and is a great stick handler. With a cap hit of only 3m I think the wings should trade a prospect for this guy. Get rid of Bertuzzi and put him in the lineup. He can play on any line for us and would be great on the 2nd PP. If you agree or have another player in mind for this role, please post.
-
Give up one of our prospects for him, I'm telling you, the guy is young and can only get better.

I keep seeing multiple posts on this forum and other forums about how we made a bad move giving up Ville Leino. The reality is, he is one of the highest scoring players on Philadelphia at this moment in the playoffs. I don't think Ville Leino is a great player, and at best he is a secondary scorer. He Didn't fit in with the wings because of the depth chart we have. At this point and time, I believe this is an attempt to get a raise by him. (His contract expires after the season) But really, who would sit in the lineup for this guy to get goals? We aren't sitting bertuzzi, homer, datsyuk, zetterberg, franzen, filpulla? None of these players are going to play on the third line, it just doens't happen. It's a great fit for a low scoring defensive style of game for Philly, but not for Detroit. Great or Bust? I'm gonna say bust, he is lousy with the puck on his stick and is bad defensively(watch the last game even tho they won) And he is not a regular season scorer. Most of his goals are just to an open net so I'm not impressed with his playoffs.
-
It could of been better if he whined to the refs
-
Let me know when you can stare me straight in the eyes and tell me he can get around people without getting "knocked" off the puck Kbud? Have a good day

Wings need to get a right handed goal scorer who's willing to take a hometown discount. Sign a longterm deal with Ilya Kovalchuk (people will say we aren't going to sign him) He's 27 years old. Sign him for 15 Years/ 75m 5m Cap Hit Assuming the cap goes up 1m dollars from multiple sources...and Lidstrom resigns for 3.5m/1 year deal... Heres our roster: Add/remove players as you wish (Lilja/Kindl)
-
Eaves and miller will be back, they are liked by babcock for there roles. I'd like to see bertuzzi get shipped away, he's a liability even in the offensive zone because of all his hooking/slashing penalties.
-
He takes too many penalties for hooking from behind because hes too slow. Wings need faster players so we can have some burst when it matters.
