Does anyone actually see Hossa or Zetterberg not signing for a long term 7.45 deal if offered? It's not like thats a huge discount for either of them. The year after next year Lidstrom's contract expires, so it'll be interesting to see if he retires, signs for less, or keeps getting 7.45.
-
Hopefully Leino will crack the line up in the Spring, or the Wings may lose him.
-
Linden didn't really deserve it, but I guess the Canucks felt left out with all their mediocre players over the last 20 years. Lidstrom's should be retired, maybe Datsyuk too when it's all said and done.
-
Datsyuk deserves to be top 3 for sure. Without him we'd be screwed!
-
Nabokov played a weak game, Detroit was too good. The best Sharks-Datsyuk moment had to be 2 years ago in the 2nd round versus the Sharks, where Nabakov tried to clear the puck, Daty's batted it down high in the air and scored in on a break away.
-
Crosby is probably the most overrated player the NHL has. He's an assist queen. Iginla is a much better captain, Ovechkin is a much better scorer. Datsyuk is a much better with the puck, and defensively. What does Crosby do that makes people consider him the best player today?

Since about 1/3 of the season is over, I think he'll make around 7 million. I heard it was only a one year deal though. The Canucks will likely win their weak division, which means more then likely they'll get the Wings in the second round (assuming they both win their opening series). Is it just me, or does the East look a lot tougher then the West this year?

It's pro-rated, so the canucks won't need to clear 10 mill of cap space.

USA TODAY: Lidstrom looking up at Weber, Boyle in latest rankings

The Vezina for sure is changing hands this season. -
Apparently Leino hasn't been playing very well in GR. Perhaps he thinks his chances of making the Red Wings is decreasing as the season goes on, less to play for.
-
Stuart doesn't play on the PP though. But 3.5 million? (Sorry double post)
-
Look at his stats versus Rafalski's. Or his fellow D-man Kronwall. Rafa and Kronwall at least produce some offense. Would you rather have Franzen or keep Stuart. Because theirs no way they can keep even 2 of Hossa, Z, or Franzen without getting rid of Stuart or Flippula. Rafa has 23 points, Brad has 2. I'm not saying he's worthless, but he isn't worth 3.5 million.
-
Nothing's impossible, you're assuming how much these guys will want. A lot of these guys especially Sammy has a lot of points because he's on the PP with Zetterberg. Either way, getting rid of Stuart is a possibility, or Flippula, or both. Getting rid of both to make room for Franzen, Hudler, Sammy, and Zetterberg would be well worth it. Especially since Leino is their for around 1 million. How much could Hudler possibly want? Not as much as Franzen, who will probably get 4-5 million. The team you suggest in you're previous post looks awful. Replacing Hudler, Franzen and Hossa for cap space for Zetterberg and Sammy. Detroit would probably miss the play-offs with those 3 gone, seeing how badly Osgood and Conklin have been, and more then likely continue to be. Either way, Detroit is spending way too much on this shotty Defense. 3.75 million of Stuart could go right to Franzen. Flippula and Hossa's salary could go right to Zetterberg, Hudler and Sammy. Datysuk isn't really benefiting from playing with Hossa anyways. Everytime he gets the puck, right to Hossa. I really don't think Hossa is making as big a difference as everyone thinks.

I don't understand the whole reason for sending Avery to counciling or therapy other then PR reasons. Theirs millions of people just like Avery in every highschool on the planet. He's just an immature, cocky, stupid person. That's his personality, I don't see how therapy or whatever their going to do to him will help. Maybe a lobotomy.

It must feel weird making a million dollar a year, scoring basically a goal every two games, when people like Flipulla are getting 3 million and doing nothing. The one goalie who suffered the worst from the lock-out and rule changes was Theodore. This guy won the damn Vezina and after the lockout collapsed, at least he's found his game. The thing about Osgood is, he looks tiny in that net. Look at Giguere, looks like a Sumo wrestler. He's a terrible athlete, but he's huge. Osgood is just getting old. The fire within him is dieing. He wanted to be #1 so bad last year. Him and Hasek played great, best GA in the league. Then Hasek broke down and Osgood has his chance. Maybe the pressure to repeat is just so great. Conklin right now is a lot better then Hasek in his last years, so how could we go from best GA in the league, to the worst? Defense? Or motivation. Conklin if anyone should be playing his heart out.

The Penguins made a huge mistake last season signing Malkin to such a insane deal. They basically have no cap space right now, the cap won't go up significantly, and Malkin and Crosby are both gonna get paid 8.5 million a season. Plus their goalie, another 6 million. Their screwed. And Detroit will be too if they sign Hossa and Zetterberg. Zetterberg is the future. Giving out these huge contracts long term contracts assumes one thing, the cap won't go down. Either way, keeping Franzen, Zetterberg, Hudler and Sammy could probably be easily done. Doing that would secure their forwards for the next few years, the defense is signed up for a few years. The only thing missing is a goalie. Osgood may be gone by the end of this season. Is Conklin the answer? Or Howard? Detroit needs a goalie. Forwards will come and go, new draft picks can be brought up, but a proven goalie isn't something we have even down the line.

Is it really a time for changing goalies and 4th liners?

Listen junior, winning a face-off and letting the puck go right into your net is still worthless. -

He's also -11, the worst on the team (worse then his linemates as well) with 3 points and getting 1.5 million. He's great on faceoffs, then the him and his line melts down. -

Maltby is a lot more valueable then Draper. Draper is getting 1.5 million and is by far the worst player on the team. He's worthless. -
No he didn't. That puck would of went right in if Lebda didn't put his glove on it leading to that penalty shot. It's the Avalanche. No Svatos, no Sakic, look at their roster. A team of nobodies. And right off the bat, 2-0.

You can blame the defense for a few goals, but hell, you think Anderson or Thomas or Luongo have great defense behind them? Sure the D isn't as good as last year (for some unexplainable reason) but maybe the great D before was just covering for the Osgood? Now that the Defense can't bail him out, we see the true goalie he's become. It's not going to get better. It's just November has turned into it's just December, what's next? It's just March? It's just April? Detroit has the worst goalie in the league, by far. He hasn't bailed us out once. It's time for a real #1 goalie. Either stick with Conklin for a month or two, or make a trade. We have tons of players we could easily trade to get a 2-3 million dollar goalie. Versus brought up a very telling visual of shots blocked. The Av's blocked everything in the middle zone. As far as I can tell, Detroit rarely blocks anything. And when they do block a shot, it's usually by accident.
-
If we can't beat the worst team in the Pacific, then barely hold on to the 2nd worst team in the Pacific, then lose to the worst team in the Northwest, what chance do we have against the top team in the league? Give them the win and take a week off Wings.
-
Osgood sucks. Lets hope to god we go on a losing streak, or else nothing will change.
-
Send him down to the minors, get Howard up here to back up Conklin. It won't be nice, it might not go well, but something must be done.
-
Bench Osgood forever. He won't get better, he's useless. Anyone know Hasek's cell number?
