Osgood should be waived. He's sucked for the last 2 seasons.
-
Why was Salei signed? It would suck to lose Ericcson or Kindl. Kyle Quincey all over again.

This must be a terrible joke. The Habs save 1 million in cap space keeping Price over Halak. Halak is the ONLY reason the Habs made the play-offs. He is the only reason they beat the Capitals and Penguins. And they would rather have 1 million in cap space and Price in net, then perhaps one of the top 5 goalies in the league? The Habs are going nowhere. What do they expect to do with that 1 million dollars saved? How could they possibly be a better team then they were last year. Montreal IMO is the worst Canadian team on paper. Every other Canadian team got better this off season, except Montreal. And Montreal barely made the play-offs last season. I hope they finish in the bottom of the East.

The best case scenerio would be Rafalski waiving his NTC. Lidstrom- Mitchell Stuart-Kronwall Kindl-Lilja -Ericsson Kindl needs to play, or he will picked up on waivers. Use Rafalksi's cap space for next season or waive Osgood and sign Niemi. Niemi-Howard! woot woot woot

Paul Kariya is better then Dan Cleary.
-
Modano would be an upgrade to ANYONE on the third or fourth lines, except Hudler. Maybe Brunnstrom would also be a guy to pursue, trade Meech and someone else for rights.
-
Bertuzzi states he will either stay with wings or retire
TheOwl replied to Lidstrom for life's topic in General
Dan Cleary should be traded. He's not a top 6 forward, and he's getting paid way to much. -
Hasek is no doubt the best goalie of the modern era.

The Wings need a 3rd and 4th line that can score once and a while. It seems like our bottom two lines, aren't really shut down lines, aren't really checking lines, and rarely ever score. In fact, what do they do besides take up time and get scored on? It seems very odd to me that Helm and Abby are referred to as the next Draper/Maltby. Well where is the next top-six forward in development. Sure, Helm and Abby haven't been given a fair enough chance to show what they could be. BUT the Wings need to get some more young scoring forwards into the system. Leino was supposed to be that guy, and I think Holland pulled the trigger to early.

If Lidstrom wants 7.4 million, he'll get it. BUT we all know that this team won't be winning the Cup until he retires. Lidstrom deserves every cent, but if he takes 7.4 million, the team will look nearly exactly the same as last year. And the Wings in the play-offs didn't do well with this exact team. Hudler will not make a dramatic difference especially at almost 3 million. If Lidstrom wants to win another Cup, he'll take 4.5. If he wants a pay-day, 7.4. He'll get it, he's made a lot of money already, why not take less?

I could see Philly beating Chicago. On paper the teams are very similar, lots of high priced scorers, strong D's, and solid goaltending. Philly blocks a lot of shots, they could steal a few games.

Trade Heatley for a D-man and a decent goalie, then sign Kovelchuk. Let Naby go.
-
He's the most complete Russian forward. Whether that means "best" is up for debate. Datsyuk, Ovechkin, Malkin and Kovelchuk have all had terrible seasons though. At least Datsyuk can finish with a bit of a high note.
-
Pathetic effort by the Sharks, whole series. Nabokov has got to go. He's the exact opposite of a big game player.
-
2 million per season for 2 years. That would be fair for both sides, and a lesser risk.
-
Funny thing is, the pucks are probably worth more.

All penalty calls, and all goals, should be reviewable. It's not hard, it won't take very long. Ref calls a penalty, then the refs/linesman skate over to a little monitor, watch it, boom, done. We all see the replay before the next face-off anyways, why can't the refs just watch it and GET IT RIGHT 100% of the time. Plus this would get ride of the ridiculous non-reviewable goal policy. Every play should be reviewed, at least briefly. While their at it, have no touch icing. The time we save watching a guy skate for 10 seconds, the refs can allocate that time to reviewing calls.

The Sharks are too good not to win a cup, and since they beat the Wings, I'll be cheering for them, they deserve it. Plus I don't want the Hawks or Penguins to win, and San Jose is the only team who can beat them both.

I'm a bit worried actually. We've had the same team more or less for the past 4 seasons. Sure, the results have been good, I'm not pissed at all they lost. BUT this team a year from now WILL lose to the Sharks again. The Sharks were better, and yes, if Game 2 wasn't so poorly officiated, maybe it would be a different series. The 4-1 doesn't represent how close each of the games were. But Hudler isn't going to bring this team to the next level. We need an overhaul of the 3rd and 4th lines. I like Eaves, I like Miller. But we need a bit of goal scoring from those lines. Those lines were SILENT. They created good chances, but couldn't finish. Basically my worry is the Wings don't have any top forward prospects down the line, the next "Franzen" you could say, a potential 2nd/3rd line player. That's my worry. The D prospects are good, the goalie prospects are good. But the forwards aren't. We need fresh guys, some pro SHOT BLOCKERS, some real grinders to do with Helm and Aby. We need fresh blood.

Luongo is held to an impossible standard. He is not the greatest goalie on the planet. He never was, he never will be. The Canucks are a strange team for sure. Every Canuck fan, since 1994 says "We're just a year away." And legitimately, they are. Much like the Sharks. But in this case, I think it is the Sharks year. If any team could come back from 3-0, it's the Wings. And actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they did, because the Wings can be that good. But if the Sharks win, I don't see them losing, especially if they make it to the SCF.

The one criticism I have of the coaching/management is not keeping lines that are working, together. Bert/Flip/Zetterberg has been amazing most nights. Much like Mule/Dats/Homer. Chemistry is everything, especially since this is very affordable, Bert and Homer are both 2 mill/season. Hudler should man the third line with the improving Abs and Helm. Keep big Bert!

I just expected ALOT more from him. I mean he didn't win us any games in the Phoenix series, he just was OK. He's supposed to be great, he has been great. He has had Halak style performances. But he's just a little mentally weak for some reason. It's not a good sign in my opinion. He's been bad, he's not been himself.
-
Howard. But I'm not too upset at him. Unless he plays in Game 4 and really sucks it up. Win game 4 Jimmy.

I agree with you, you can't make it to the finals every season. But I think now it's time for a big change. This is more or less the same team that won it in 2008, and came close in 2009. I think the Wings need to do more then just re-sign in house UFA's and getting Hudler back. If Lidstrom doesn't resign, it'll be a huge chunk of money, that the Wings should spend on a top 6 forward. The Wings are weak on offense, with our bottom two lines incapable of providing a decent amount of scoring. It would spread out the lines well with another top 6 guy. This team next season will have the same result. It's not just a matter of being gassed. The Wings need some new players. This roster a year from now won't fair any better.

Extremely pathetic that the top 3 seeds in the east all lost. At least the West is worth watching.
