Personally, I think they should figure out a system where goaltenders have their own "Hart" trophy. Or have two Hart trophies, one for the goalie, one for the forward. Their is no way on earth you could ever say Henrik, or Crosby is more valuable too their team then Miller for example. Or maybe just make it a forward only category, just have the Vezina. You could make a decent argument for why a dozen goaltenders in the league should be considered for the Hart.

Howard Becomes Yet Another Different Wings Playoff Starter
TheOwl replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Let Osgood start and play him until he loses a game, then get rid of him next season. -
Sure they can. If San Jose beats the Avs, LA beats Vancouver, Detroit wins, Chicago wins. Then San Jose will play LA, Detroit will play Chicago.
-
That would be the best possible result for the Wings. Predictions! Caps in 4 Sens in 7 Bruins in 6 Devils in 5 Sharks in 5 Hawks in 6 Coyotes in 6 Canucks in 4

Sure it was a good goal, but it wasn't everything. Who did he score it on? Toskela, the worst goalie in the league (stats wise), playing for a defeated Calgary team. Stop this stupid Sedin loving, last nights game was a joke. Toskela isn't an NHL caliber goalie.
-
Ovechkin deserves both titles. 10 less games played. This will be a travesty if he doesn't win.
-
Any points earned in this game should be erased. Calgary isn't even trying. Just end the game, this is unfair to Ovechkin, who deserves both titles because hes played 7 less games.
-
I think Ovechkin would be happy with just the goal scoring trophy. Art Ross is a lesser trophy, but he must win the scoring title!

^ He's one of the largest parts and why we didn't win. Osgood and the D did their job. Our offense did not. And who was getting paid 7.45 million a season to score? Hossa. If blame was a cake, Hossa would be eating the biggest piece. That's a fact. He totally choked. And I hope he chokes again. Hossa wants a Cup, but he doesn't want to work for it. He jumped ship to Pittsburgh, he missed his chance. He then jumped to Detroit, he missed his chance. Then he jumped ship to Chicago, and if their is a God, he'll miss his chance again. He doesn't deserve a cup. Maybe when he puts in the time, the work, with a team, who really deserves it, maybe then. But not now. Chicago doesn't deserve the cup, because they haven't worked hard for it. How does playing poorly for over half a decade, getting handed a slew of premium draft picks for playing badly, suddenly make you a deserving team? Chicago, Washington and Pittsburgh all fall into this category. If Detroit doesn't win it, I hope a deserving team wins. A team who's consistently played well over the last decade, made the play-offs a few times, been an actual contender. I would be very happy to see a team like Vancouver, or San Jose win. Teams who've consistently made the play-offs, and built their team through smart management and drafting. No s*** Pittsburgh is a good team, they drafted Fleury (1st overall), Malkin (2nd overall), Crosby (1st overall), in back to back to back years. Wow, what a story of success that is. Any team in the league could be good as them with those high picks.

Man would it not be classic for the Wings to eliminate Chicago and Hossa? Hossa deserves to get the wrong end of the stick. He is the reason we didn't win the cup last year. One goal was the difference, in just one of those last two games, and he failed. Hossa, you suck.

Pierre LeBrun thinks it's either DET or VAN from the West

I don't know if other people agree, or have noticed, but I've watched Ovechkin's last half dozen games, and he really stands around a lot waiting for things to happen. I mean, he doesn't back-check very hard, and he's always seems to be just floating around waiting for a one-timer. He hasn't been playing well lately, he looks a bit "lost". -
Datsyuk is the chess master of hockey. That was a perfect shot.

Does anyone feel sorry for the Calgary fans? This has to be one of their worst seasons in a decade. The team looks great the first half, then falls apart in the 3rd quarter, so the GM trades two of their best star players in hopes of creating a spark, now their all but eliminated from the play-offs. No matter how this season plays out, Calgary's fans should be pissed off. Those "knee jerk" trades were a bad idea at the time, and now look even worse. In all likely hood, those trades set Calgary back at least 2-3 years in terms of competing for the Cup.

Realistically I think the Wings, baring a melt down, can finish anywhere they want from 5th-8th. They have a very easy schedule left. Now, the top 4 seeds are basically set, Chicago, San Jose, Phoenix, and Vancouver. So who would you want in the first round? Chicago and Vancouver are probably no ways for most people. But will San Jose really have another first round exit? Phoenix seems like the best opponent, but they are red hot. I would say Chicago or Phoenix would be preferential.
-
Blackhawks in my mind don't deserve to be where they are. Their team was built from good draft picks due to years of failure, not hard work and smart drafting. Chicago, like Washington like Pittsburgh were given good teams. Detroit could of done poorly for a 5 year stretch and landed a few top 5 draft picks, did it the easy way. But they did it through quality management.

Bertuzzi is USELESS without Datysuk. They played together most of the season, found some success, why not keep them together? Plus the lines would be more balanced. I love Cleary, but he's not a 2nd liner. Flipulla has the potential but he's not their yet. The Wings need a top 6 forward for next season, not another cent on D-men, even if Lidstrom retires. Datysuk-Homer-Bertuzzi Zetterberg-Flipulla/Cleary-Franzen

I have a question, do the European countries need to use European coaches? A lot of blame went to the Swedish and Russian coaching staff for their disastrous quarterfinal games. Could the Swedish team not use a North American coach? Wouldn't using an NHL coach make more sense?
-
Can anyone translate why he's giving up? Is he not happy with a bronze?
-
Hmm an interesting stat, since the NHL joined the Olympics, the defending goal medalists have been eliminated in the quarterfinals every time. And unless Finland gets a medal, only one team has a medal in back to back Olympics.
-
Pffft, The reason Russia lost is because they played incredibly badly. Bad coaching decisions, not pulling the goalie at the right time. The whole thing was a disaster. Canada should of won on paper, and they won. It wasn't an upset at all. Canada has since day one been the favorites to win gold. Don't try to turn Canada into heroes, or underdogs. The Sweden game was a legitimate upset.

How can this be good? I'm pretty sure this will be extremely deflating for Dats, Zetterberg, Franzen, Kronwall and Lids. Huge favorites to make the Semi's if not win a medal, and they get destroyed. This is pretty much the worst thing that could of happened. Winning would be a much bigger motivating factor to do well. The Wings aren't in 9th place because of health. They aren't playing well. Simple as that. No more injury or health excuses. Detroit's entire season has been deflating, and I bet a lot of these guys thought this tournament could turn their games around. But it just proved how mediocre they've become. I don't want to rag on specific people, or blame the Wings players for these loses. But Datysuk, Zetterberg and Lidstrom are supposed to be three of the best players in the world. And they all played pretty bad, about as bad as they've been playing all season. Rest isn't the motivating factor here. These guys are in a funk, and to get out of a funk, a bad performance at something you look forward too for 4 years, isn't going to help. The worst has happened. Our players (other then maybe Rafalski and Flipulla) have given us no reason to believe they'll play better down the stretch. Every single game left matters. Do these guys have what it takes right now? After this demoralizing escapade?

This is half as devastating as Game 7 of last years Stanley Cup final. Sickening... I feel sick.... I want to die.....
-
What a disapointing day.... Czeck's done, Russia gone, Sweden out... I have no reason to watch this tournament anymore. Crosby going to get a shot at the gold, sickening. A Slovakia upset of Canada is the only thing that can save the day. The Olympics aren't being nice to the Wings.
-
The Russian coaching staff is 100% to blame for this debacle. Nabokov shouldn't of started, and even if he was given the start, he should of been pulled at 3-1. The Russian D was also bad, but the goalie is ultimately to blame. Sweden has a better shot at beating Canada then Russia IMO. Sweden has good goaltending, good D, and good forwards. They have no daunting flaw, other then the fact Zetterberg and a few other guys aren't playing well. Russia is all shooters, no D, and shaky goaltending with Nabby. Nabby is great or terrible. Lunquist is more consistent. Either way, the thought of Crosby winning a gold medal is sickening.

Latvia and Norway should be proud of themselves, great effort!!
