Who will get the start come playoffs?

Did he really? Bahahahahaha. Moronic comment of the day.

It's LGW. If you aren't bashing the goalie, you're mentally insane.

Who will get the start come playoffs?

My guess is Osgood will start just like Hasek did, and Conklin will go in after one or two games if things are looking bad.

    Holland's Tie-Breaking Rule

I completely misunderstood the article. Hahaha. Boy, I feel silly.

Downey Sent Down to Grand Rapids

It's a shame to see Downey have to go... but Homer > Downey.

    Holland's Tie-Breaking Rule

Fair enough. It's mounds better than the system right now. What about if it's the first or second game of the season and it's a tie? Do you base on last season's record?

    Holland's Tie-Breaking Rule

I'd have to hear about it in more detail. I like it better than what we have now - but it would be irritating to outplay a team, give up one fluke goal, and have them get the nod simply because they have more wins. Doesn't seem fair.

LOL. "For sure... I'm going to kill you."
  10. Don't post things like this and not expect "arrogance" and "homerism" in the responses. Some of us on this thread have actually replied to your original post respectfully and with our opinions - but you haven't responded to a single post like that. You posted this thread looking for a fight.. it's all too obvious. Don't call it "homerism" when we defend our team. Don't call it "arrogance" when we state, as a matter of plain fact, that we're one of the best teams in the league. And don't insult our team as if we have no idea what's going on. We're not idiots - we love our team.. otherwise, we wouldn't spend our time talking about them on an internet forum. You don't have to like our team. You don't even have to respect our team. But you certainly can respect the fans enough to not post threads for the sole purpose of getting them riled up.

Forget the deadline, the OFF SEASON is where its at?

Those players waive their NTC. You can't just trade a player with a NTC without their permission first... unless you send them to the minors, they clear waivers, and a team picks them up half-price. Stuart isn't going to want to go anywhere anytime soon due to the drama it caused with his family to even come here. Raffy and Cleary both have no desire to play for other teams... so it's not like it's as easy as it sounds. You'd have to get these guys to agree to being traded, which I don't think would be all that easy to do. EDIT: The one way I could even see this being possible is if the players aren't protected from NTC buyouts.. but I'm fairly certain that they are.

Forget the deadline, the OFF SEASON is where its at?

I believe all three of these players have NTC's. I'm a little iffy about Stuart - but I know for a fact both Rafalski and Cleary have them.

Raffy's no-trade clause would be a problem UNsolved.

3/7 GDT: Blue Jackets 8 at Red Wings 2

For the sake of not starting an anti-Crosby ceremony, I will simply put:

3/7 GDT: Blue Jackets 8 at Red Wings 2

If that were the case, I'd give him a pass. But in the small snippets I saw of the game last night, I'm fairly certain the number began with 8. And we both know what that means...

    NHL Parity

The only thing I can think of (and I didn't see last night's game due to work) is that the teams that know they're a solid playoff contender are experimenting with their lines to see what kind of chemistry they can come up with. Why? 'Cause they can afford to. I could be a mile and a half off the mark, but it seems a likely case.

3/7 GDT: Blue Jackets 8 at Red Wings 2

Can someone explain the Penguins' jersey behind him?
  19. With all due respect to the Pens & you yourself, I would think that the high chance of winning a Cup would overrule the emptiness of the arena. In fairness to the Red Wings, the upper bowl is always packed. You'd be hard-pressed to find a single empty seat up there. The lower bowl has tons of corporate buyers who use the tickets as raffles at work or bring clients, etc. I don't think it's fair to judge based on the lower-bowl view you get whilst watching the game on TV. Those tickets ARE sold - the people just choose not to show up. Take, for example, the game against the SJ Sharks recently. It was sold out. Or the upcoming game March 12th vs. the Calgary Flames - standing room only tickets are being sold now. In either case, would Detroit be better off with a clear cut starting goaltender? Probably. But there's nothing we can do to change our current situation - so we're stuck. There was no reason to sign an excellent goaltender when Osgood just played a heck of a playoff stretch. Signing a potent goal-scorer (Hossa) to add offensive depth wasn't a bad move at all, in my opinion.
  20. Agreed 100%. There was no reason to look for a new goalie with Osgood's performance. How was Holland to know that Ozzie wouldn't be doing well now?

300 Career Wins with one team

Clearly. I must've missed the "bash Osgood relentlessly whenever possible - no matter the circumstances" clause in the registration application on this site.

300 Career Wins with one team

So.... a thread to respect Osgood's accomplishment with the Red Wings organization somehow turns into "bash Osgood NOW!" There's other threads to do that in - like the CBJ/DET game-day thread. There's no need to interject that into a thread meant as congratulations. And I know he's never going to read it - but the premise of it still makes it pretty classless. Anyways, good job to Ozzie for rounding on 300 wins. :beerbuddy:

3/7 GDT: Blue Jackets 8 at Red Wings 2

Tell you what.. I'll just admit that you were right. I didn't expect the team to go through another one of these embarrassing losses - but alas! We have. I'm not going to be stupid enough to say "Okay, it's only TWO. Let's forget about it!" One, sure - I can pretend it never happened. But not two. I don't think it was Osgood's fault, either. I was just a bit confused. In my mind, I wouldn't want Osgood to take the beating to his stats. Not only that, but maybe the vain hope that a goalie switch would make the team think "Okay, let's turn a new page and re-start ourselves." But your guess is as good as mine.

3/7 GDT: Blue Jackets 8 at Red Wings 2

In words of Henrik Zetterberg, this game was "disgusting". And, in the words of Babcock, "Ozzie was hung out to dry"... which is absolutely true. The same way Conklin was hung out to dry in the 8-0 defeat in Nashville. You can't blame Ozzie for the loss. The game was a carbon copy of the game in Nashville and even Conklin couldn't do anything about it. Two different goalies; Same outcome. A top 10 goalie would feel good, but it won't fix the team's defensive struggles. However, if they're going to play like they have no idea what the word "defense" means, I suggest letting Hossa go and getting that top 10 goalie, because that's what they're going to need with that type of play. On the other hand, why didn't Babcock take Osgood out after 3-4 goals? If for nothing else than to not hurt his stats?

    CBS Disrespects Hockey

A lot of people disrespect hockey. I can't tell you the amount of times I've heard "more people watch blackjack than watch hockey". Though I have a hard time believing that's true, us hockey fans are just going to have to take the criticisms and enjoy our sport.
