Bettman has said, on more than one occassion, that he wants to look into fighting because it's a "safety" issue. He maintains that it's a part of the game - but he wants to make it safer to engage in. Whatever that means...
-
Mostly the instigation rule. I'm not sure what other ones are going to be thought up afterwards. It's just ways of punishing players for getting into a fight. Bettman doesn't want to take fighting out of the game - but he certainly is trying to discourage it every way he can. The NHL is changing - thanks to his no-good "leadership". I'd be curious to see if there was a need for an enforcer in about 5 years.

I guess we'll see how Howard plays.. but from what people have told me, I'm expecting next to nothing from him. Oh well. EDIT: I just read the article. Giving Ozzie the 10 days doesn't sound like a slap in the face to me.. just extra time to work with the coach. Best of luck to both Howard and Oz. We'll see how they both play after this break.

With the moronic rule changes Bettman is imposing, who knows how much longer teams are going to NEED enforcers? And my observation has been that the only times the fighting gets out of hand is when the refs aren't doing their jobs. You have some guy hooking you, holding you, grabbing you over and over again with no calls - you're damn right you're going to get pissy and just beat the crap out of him. I hope this doesn't happen - but I'm sure in Bettman's fantasy world, enforcers will become unnecessary. EDIT: Kind of off topic, sorry.

I cleaned up a bit too, while I was there.

You explained it much better than I did. Thank you. And you're right, I do agree with what he said about Hossa. He SHOULDN'T be the one out there throwing punches - but I'm not upset that he did.

Courtesy of freep.com: Negotiations with Franzen have progressed steadily. "I think we're in the ballpark, but we don't have a deal done," Holland said Monday. So.. who knows how true this really is.

Ovie - the best player in the league? Hell freakin' yes.
-
Well.. BAN THE INTERWEBS.
-
LMAO. Who's your daddy and what does he do? Hahahahahaha.

What do I like most about this years team? They wear the winged wheel.

I never said I was one of the ones who didn't like the fighting. I get just as excited over a good hockey fight as anybody in this thread. I don't, however, see a point in fighting with people about it. I clicked on the thread to see the video.. and read the comments from there. I wouldn't have said anything if it was just friendly debate - but go back and read what this has turned into. Personal attacks on other users. THAT'S what I'm objecting to. We, as fans of the Red Wings, have it better than any other fans in the league - but we don't even recognize it half the time. If they were to read this thread, 70% of them would probably think "I wouldn't care about fighting if my team won as much as the Red Wings do." It just seems like overkill to me - to start personally attacking one another over an issue that has nothing to do with the team that we're all fans of. That wasn't directed toward everybody debating in this thread - just the few who took it too far.

I truly don't understand all the fighting in this thread. As everyone here knows, there are two ways to play hockey: Physical & finesse. The Wings just happen to be a finesse team. Where's the issue with that? Of course, we'd love to see more fights. And if the team switched over to a physical style of play, I'd be just as much of a fan as I am now. But as of now, we're NOT a physical team. Fighting about whether we should be on an internet forum isn't going to change that. The Wings get the job done, whether it's on muscle or skill. So why are we acting like this?

GET IT DONE, KENNY.

Who could honestly say no to that face? Not I.

Amazing. Simply amazing. Thank you! I never realized just how much I missed this stuff until seeing it again.

GET IT DONE, KENNY!

Someone NEEDS to put the Hossa fight up here for me.
-
Haha, agreed. I almost fell off my bed laughing when I heard it. I have a feeling someone is getting a talking-to after that comment.
-
I guess not! Would've been the perfect time to offer me a free round of drinks to keep me there. That's right - I blame the bar.
-
HAHAHAHAHAH @ FS Tennessee. "Give the cup to the Wings now."
-
I missed Hossa fighting. How is this possible? He just HAD to fight when I came home from the bar, right? MULEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Hahaha, I know! I was like "Micky - take notes!"
-
LOL. I'm watching Fox Sports Tennessee - and the announcer just said "And that came off quicker than on prom night."
