Ozzie just played.. so why are we starting him again? Especially given his performance against this team last time. EDIT: I really hope the SO win will boost the team to play better. They needed it.

I didn't pay much attention to hockey pre-lockout.. so I don't really know anything about the organization before that. But what you're saying makes sense. I started paying attention around the time that they decided to use that newfound strategy "moving forward", as you said. Signing a top 10 goalie would be nice, but we have so many elite players that I'm not too sure how it's possible unless we let one or two of them go.

This season, yeah, our defense hasn't been stellar. But in past seasons - it has been. And I think that's really what the Wings organization banks on. Your idea of a trade sounds good now - because we're not playing so hot. But last season, thinking about trading any of our d-men would've probably sparked some controversy. The Wings need to do something - whether it be boost their personal morale or just practice twice as long and twice as hard. They're falling short. It's still the premise of our team. Top paid D, low paid G. It's not working for us right now, so we need to switch it up.. but I can imagine that's why the Wings keep Ozzie around, even when he's not performing.

The Wings, as far as I know, have always been an organization set up around their defense. The whole mindset is that if you have a stellar defense, you don't NEED a stellar goalie. So they use the money they save from signing a top rate goalie and put it into keeping a top rate defense. It's worked for years. If we were to magically get enough money left over for a top rate goalie, I'd say go ahead & sign 'em. But that's not really realistic in the NHL today. We've got some of the most elite players on the team in the entire league.. and goalie isn't high on our priority list. And you can see that when our defense isn't pulling together.

Cleary isn't "OH MY GOD, LOOK AT HIM GO" fast.. but he has his moments where when he takes off, he really takes off. It doesn't happen a lot, but when it does, he has this astounding burst of speed.

You could be right. I still see Drapes take off like a rocket sometimes - though I haven't paid enough attention to tell if he's slower than previous seasons. I just know that over the years, he's been consistently fast.

Being at the game last night, I got a firsthand view of this hit... and I can tell you there was nothing ejection worthy about it. Should Lilja have gotten a penalty? That's even debatable, but I could see where someone might give him one. Lilja NEVER left his feet. The only mistake he made was elbowing the guy in the back of the neck. So give him a penalty - fine. But to eject him from the game and give him a misconduct over it? Absolute bulls***.

Sorry to hear about Homer. I'm glad Hank is back in the mix - maybe he'll help out our PK. Also, I'm excited to see Helm play again.
