Haha, I don't mind that the Wings are hated. We'll continue getting Cups and trophies. I'm okay with that.

To whom it may concern: As a lifelong Red Wings fan, I take hockey and the welfare of the team very seriously. In doing so, I can't help but raise my eyebrows at the actions of Dan O'Halloran as of late. I am not sending this comment to say that Mr. O'Halloran is a "bad" referee, but simply to ask how the NHL Officials Association can allow such biased attitudes in officiating against the Detroit Red Wings. Naturally, I am specifically talking about Tomas Holmstrom and the calls made against him by Mr. O'Halloran. I believe I'm not speaking out of my team allegiance when I say that his calls against Holmstrom are unwarranted. I've even spoken with many fans of other teams - who hold no allegiance with the Detroit Red Wings - who feel that something just isn't right with the attitude of Mr. O'Halloran and Holmstrom. I will not pretend to understand why Dan O'Halloran is assigned to referee Detroit Red Wings games time and time again, but I strongly suggest this issue be looked into for the sake of the NHL's fan base. Again, I am not saying that Mr. O'Halloran is a "bad" referee. I am simply asking that the issue of his calls on Detroit's Tomas Holmstrom be looked into and reviewed if possible. If there is, in fact, bias in his calls - which many feel that there seems to be - I believe, as a fan, that this matter should be dealt with accordingly. Sincerely, Amanda [Last].

He's got the rockstar hair. If I could sport it at 90, I would. Unfortunately, I'll be going for the generic short/curly do.

That really won't do much in terms of turning this around. Shaky goaltending is a problem. Nobody can deny that. But let's face it - our defense isn't anything to cheer about. We've been less than Red Wings average for the last however-many games. Our D just cannot get it together. Offense isn't doing too bad. I don't have much criticism in the way of that. But all of our problems do not land on the goaltending. Defense AND goaltending both need to be woken up. Simply changing the goaltender isn't going to do too much.

Honestly, I respect and enjoy both ways of playing. Wings just happen to have more a finesse game, whereas a team like the Ducks have more a physical game. Two different ways of playing - both equally respectable and enjoyable. I don't think one is better than the other.

I'm excited to see Abs play. I haven't as of yet, but from what's been said on this board - it should be a good show.

Yeah, I can see where they'd want to work new players in the NHL level. I really hope Helm gets some playoff ice time. What an amazing rookie.
-
I think there are just some Wings fans (not going to point fingers or start giving names) who are far more in love with winning than they are with this team.
-
Whatever happened to Helm?

Oh okay. So it probably WOULD be football, then. (If we were to name one tomorrow.)

Ah, okay. I knew lacrosse was either once the national sport or still was. Thanks for letting me know.

Baseball is the US's national sport.
-
Isn't Lacrosse Canada's national sport? Or do they have two?

North America and Europe play two different styles of hockey. That much is certain. Maybe I'm way over the ledge here, but when you put players from both on a team - they meld together. They have to find a way to play together, and they do it (for the most part) from the coach telling them how he wants the game to be played. They have specialized skills in different areas of the game due to being trained in different parts of the world... but when they come together on a team in the NHL, they're expected to play like a team with the same team dynamic. So really - doesn't it all even itself out in the end? But you're right, there's far more casual fans than true fans. I can appreciate any style of hockey - from finesse to physical. If there's a European player who's astounding with puck handling and not so heavy with the hits & vice versa - fine by me. I just don't agree with the idea of not watching because of European players.

I have been asked to post this for someone - so here it goes. "Little pink elephants have told me that OsGOD says all you doubters can go to hell!!!"
-
Well, the chances of these people - who have diehard allegiances to other teams - admitting that the Red Wings are consistently winners is slim to none. Though, you did see some who said "I hate the Red Wings because we can't beat them".. which is probably more true than anything else.
-
Too many Europeans? That's a ridiculous reason to not watch the Wings. If people are honestly tuning out because there's too many Europeans on the team, they aren't fans to begin with. I'd have to go with the last reason. I know many people who don't even feel that the hockey season starts until the playoffs anyway... so that's when they tune in.

Well, thank you. I really appreciate it. I think I was just confused as to the message in your post. But no worries. Good night, everyone!

Fair enough. Bed time for me, then.

I'm new to the site.. not new to being a fan of the Wings. And I'm not entirely certain what your post was supposed to be telling me. I have faith that the team is going to turn around. Where's the problem?
-
If there's any team that can come back from a losing streak and turn it into a winning streak, it's the Red Wings. If any team gives us an inch - we run with it. If they want to panic, let them panic. I won't until April.
-
We hit a slump last season too and pulled out of it. Better to get in a slump now than in the playoffs.

Truer words were never spoken.

This. Is. Pathetic.
