    Retire #'s 18,25,33,96

I can hear it now in 20 years. A father brings his son to the game and the kids says "Dad, who is #154 again?" If Montreal retired numbers based on cup wins they would be using letters on their jerseys by now.

    Retire #'s 18,25,33,96

To paraphrase the sheriff from Jaws, "were gonna need a bigger rafter." As much as I've enjoyed watching them over the years all I can say is no way. Had they not been on the Wings they would be just hockey players. Not to diminished what they have done here but geez. Edited to exclude Nick from the regular hockey players remark.

Best Wings or NHL team ever

That '02 team was just plain fun to watch. The star power was amazing. Watching them take the Av's out that year is one of my best hockey memories.

    Another Crosby thread

First off, I'll agree with anyone who thinks he didn't ask to be the face of hockey. Second, I'll disagree with anyone who thinks he has no talent. He does whine, but since he's the face we always see it. Some of the scraps he's been seem to be the slappy/pushy type. I expect he'll one day drop the gloves proper. He's a kid, he's already been around long enough to forget that he just became old enough to drink a beer in the states, he is 21 right? At 21 my kid didn't have a clue .... about anything. What sunrises me the most is how well he plays with the burden of living in a glass bowl, I would think many would crumble under the pressure. As for living in Mario's basement maybe his mom won't let him bring girls home, ever think of that?

2/12 GDT: Wild 2 at Red Wings 4

I'm with ya all the way ma'am. After the cup run last year people were looking to name a street after him. Like they say the two best jobs in Detroit are the backup goalie for the Wings and backup QB for the Lions.

Red Wings' Darren McCarty back on the ice

If we play SJ in the playoffs and Mac isn't here who will knock Claude Lesuck's walker out from under him?
  12. Does anyone besides me think they would never let anyone tie or break Orr's record for Norris trophies? Or have I been hanging out on the grassy knoll to long?

Why is Datsyuk marginalized by the League?

Hossa doesn't marginalize him: Detroit Free Press

Damn nice PK there for Pitt. Almost looked like they were on the power play.

    Hank's signing

I don't believe that for a second. I'm not the conspiracy kind of guy. Well except for New Coke, that was definitely a conspiracy to drive up sales for the old formula.

Hossa is on pace for a career high in goals

I don't think we need worry about that. It's fairly common knowledge how the Wings operate philosophically. If Hossa really wants to play here I don't think he'll need a crash course on the Red Wing way. I'll never understand players that chase the mighty dollar, to the point that all that matters is the amount. I expect that from regular people, people who live check to check. Once your making millions a year though is 1million more going to make or break you? Eh, millionaires, I'll never figure them out. The point I'm laboring to make is if you hit the mega lottery for $200million then found out you had to split it would $100million suddenly suck, wouldn't half be enough?

    Info on nhl tv deal

I'm upgraded as far as I can go short of the HBO/Cinemax tier. After HBO cancelled Deadwood I swore I'd never pay them again. It's one promise I intend to keep

    Info on nhl tv deal

I have VS on my cable and to be honest I consider it more of an Ultimate Fighting channel than a hockey channel. I don't know how to fix it but I just picked up a 24" monitor and internet feeds just got a whole lot more fun to watch. No one wants to hear it but maybe it's just not in the cards for America to get turned on to hockey. I'm so grateful to have grown up with CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, what's bad is while I get VS with my provider I don't get CBC anymore. Sad panda me.

SJ just lost their third in a row.

I can't find it in my heart to root for Boston, the fans there are already insufferable. As an original 6 team Boston should be my choice but the Sox and Celtic fans fugged it up for the rest.

    Even over here!

NBC sports guy: "Hank, you just won the Conn Smyth and the Stanley Cup, your going to Disneyland, congratulations. But before we get to that how do you think Sidney Crosby feels about now? After all he is the best thing since sliced bread, and the new face of hockey. Do you think Sid or hockey will recover from this mortal blow? Do you think Don Cherry will ever forgive you?" I don't care for the networks or Bettman shoving Crosby in our faces either but I do have a bit of sympathy for him, to a degree(as much as anyone could for anyone who make $8.7m a yr). I can't recall him campaigning for the "face of hockey" title. While I'm sure he enjoys the perks that come with it it wouldn't suprise me if he wished it would go away. There must be some burden being cast this way. I think the whole PR crap is doing hockey more harm than good. I wonder if it embarrasses him, most hockey players are a humble breed. I'd like to know how his own team feels, not that they could tell us. BTW, in the translation broken underpants is way funnier than torn underpants.

    Hossa to Sign Soon?

Finally, someone getting to the nuts and bolts of the matter. You can't just let anyone sit for the bench minors, Hudler has been special trained for this duty.

    Hossa to Sign Soon?

If Hossa signs a long term deal here you might be better served to get a Holland tattoo on your ass At this point if given a choice Hossa would be my guy, he's the kind of guy that makes whoever he's paired with better.

2/8 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Penguins 0

Great game boys, glad to see the shutout by Conks. Always a pleasure to watch you stick it to the goldenboy on national TV. As the world probably knows by now the Wings didn't win, the Crosby lost. I've watched 12 or so Pitt games this year and I'm convinced they will never win with Fleury. I've never seen nor can I remember a goalie that gives up rebounds like he does. It's like there is a trampoline in goal. If I were playing defense for Pitt I'd lose my mind. That 2nd goal by Dats was inexcusable, great athleticism to knock the rebound in but that goal was on Fleury. I've never been an Ozzie hater but months ago I felt Conklin was playing much better on the whole, hard to argue with 6shutouts. When we play D the way we can I feel ok with whoever is in there.
