Why the hell wont 97.1 ever discuss hockey?

It's not as open as you think. As others have said in this thread the calls are screened. They like you to think you can talk about what you want but it's not the case. Over time most listeners have come to understand this. They have enough slappys to keep the ratings up. MichSt. is 7-0 right now and Valenti being an alum good luck with anything else. He claims to "open the lines to the people" but you better want to talk about what's relevant to him. Don't even think about Foster backing you because he is just the Loudmouth's eunuch. When it comes to bucking up against Valenti the man has no balls. The only good thing they have done is the rant. If you care to hear it(I do recommend it), go to youtube and just type Valenti in the search bar. It's one of the greatest rants I've ever heard.

Kirk Maltby to announce he is retiring

Man, you can't buy memories like that. You can only rent them. Best of luck Kirk. You earned everything you got.

0-2 Penguins has fan in an uproar.

I found this after poking around a little: KTLA News February 16, 2009 LOS ANGELES -- It may not be the 15 minutes of fame she wanted, but a Chinese woman who flipped out after missing her flight from Hong Kong to San Francisco has become a bit of a YouTube sensation. The video was taken by a passerby earlier this month at Hong Kong International Airport. Watch her entire meltdown The woman screams as she charges through the departure gate of the Cathay Pacific flight, which was no longer taking passengers. She then begins to wail and puts her head down while slamming her hand on the check-in counter. Moments later she rolls onto the floor screaming, "I want to go! I want to go!" in Cantonese while the elderly man traveling with her tries to pull her onto her feet. Her three- minute tantrum has netted more than one million hits on YouTube. It's reported that she was eventually placed on a flight to Los Angeles, at no extra charge. Missing your flight is serious bizz.

New numbers for a couple of Wings

I can't make that case. Probert died to early and in a tragic way so I can give a pass to anyone that wants to elevate him a level higher than I think they should. I personally think of him as a Blackhawk more than a Wing, so you could make a case for me being nuts.

    Osgood

It's not what I think that counts. If you don't know how people perceive him then check this thread once in a while, or previous Osgood threads. You'll discover that many Wings fans feel that way too. A lot of people think he is the product of player playing goal for great Wings teams. Personally I think he should be in without question.

I'm of the opinion that if we had pulled out that second Cup against Pitt he would have been a lock for the Hall.

    A Long Time Ago...

I think you did well to stop at that point. Agree about the Ewoks. That is a very well thought out and funny list by the OP. I especially loved the one about Filp and Babcock.
  9. Yeah but Crosby plays for Pitt and anyone who has ever played chess knows: Queen beats Knight.
  10. I wanted to say scapegoat is the wrong word here, then I looked up the definition: –noun a person or group made to bear the blame for others or to suffer in their place. The word gets thrown around to easily but at the time there were people that blamed him for the early playoff loses(maybe they do even now). Joseph didn't cost the Wings their offense did. Maybe Lewis is a better choice, you could get arguments on either side. As much as I loved what Hasek did for us in 02 I equally disliked what he did to the team when he came back. He created a goalie problem when there shouldn't have been one. Cujo has every right to hate his time here.

Red Wing Fans... Prepare for glory.

+1 Miss the finals one year and you're claiming former glory? The Blackhawks reclaimed former glory. Doesn't lessen my excitement for the season to start.

Watch what you eat at Detroit Area Pro Sporting Events

Bingo You DO NOT want to take a tour through any kitchen of a restaurant that you enjoy eating at. This is almost w/o exception. What you don't know won't hurt you as the saying goes.

    Hawkeytown? ...barf.

For the last 15yrs or so, probably longer, the Wings have been the cream of the NHL. What stuns me is why someone hasn't tried to play the way we do sooner. I find Hawkeytown a pretty clever play on words. Of course their blowing up due to the cap has made my summer.

    Antti Niemi files for arbitration

So we can eliminate Huet taking the high road and giving the money back huh? I know Chi made their own bed here but I grow tired of watching players(pick your league) holding out mid contract for a raise because they played above expectations but ownership has no recourse when they play below what's expected. Players got the short end of the stick since pro leagues formed but the pendulum has swung to far the other way. There are enough greedy owners so I don't feel to bad for them but.......eh, my only relief is it's the Blackhawks.

Red Wings Making Play for Modano

Maybe Lebron would give him some airtime tomorrow night to give his answer. Lebron could then drag his announcement out. I mean if he were trying to drag it out this would help him.

    Antti Niemi files for arbitration

This just about sums it up. He goes to arbitration and all he says is: This is what they pay the backup goalie.

Parents sue because kids suck at hockey

They lost because the coffee was scalding hot, a notch or two above regular hot. McD's coffee caused 3rd degree burns, that's what won the suit for the woman. Never the less your point is taken. To many frivolous lawsuits.

Parents sue because kids suck at hockey

I don't know how they do it in Canada but where I'm from this would buy a kid a ass whipping a day in school. The parents need whipped everyday too. I would expect this from lawsuit crazy Americans, I'd never thought to see it up north. As for finding a lawyer ambulance chasers pine for upgrades like this. While I'm at it they might as well get their asses kicked daily as well. On the other hand I can remember how devastated I was when I didn't make the chess team.

Do you think SJ is ever going to figure out that the President's Banner is the one that doesn't count in the long run?

Blackhawks playing Wings for banner raising game

I doubt a conspiracy theory. A conspiracy theory implies some deceit or clandestine operation, the grassy knoll for instance. I'm assuming the league said here are 2 original 6 members that don't like each other. This game is a no brainer, the league should think like this. Like you said a good motivational tool for the Wings. Look at the bright side, more than a few members of the winning team won't be in the building that night due to the cap. They may even lay off slobbing Cindy's knob that night, or Ovie's for that matter.
