WCF GAME 5: Blackhawks 1 at Red Wings 2 (OT)

Didn't someone call Helm for the GWG? Amazing, Go Wings!!!

who's gonna "step up" tonight? game 5

I think Leino is finally going to bury one, Hossa & Filppula will connect for 2 more goals between them, Hudler gets a PP goal, and big shocker, Franzen gets the GWG.

WCF GAME 5: Blackhawks 1 at Red Wings 2 (OT)

Oh my heck, I can't wait for the game to start. I'll be at work as usual, but I won't have to fight for the TV. We need to come out fast, hit them often, and show no mercy. I am confident that we will see Datsyuk and Lidstrom dress for this game, but they will probably not see their normal ice time, especially if we get an early lead. Whoever starts in net for Chicago will get pulled in the 2nd period, and the backup will not fare much better. I'm predicting an 8-1 victory. If Leino plays, he scores. Hudler, Filppula, Kronwall also score, and a player to be named later gets a hat trick.
  4. I'm surprised no one has done this yet

    Quenneville/ "Worst call.."

I posted in the GDT about that, it was Olczyk, can't keep from being a homer on national TV. It's either legal, or it's interference. Can't have it both ways, Eddie. If it's interference, then it needs to be called, direct your comments towards the officiating. We set screens without actually interfering, and you're right, we're dang good at it too. But it's within the rules.

    Greetings from Pittsburgh

As long as you don't care, then you are a troll of the worst kind, the kind who is a blind homer who doesn't have enough class to admit that his team was thoroughly out-played by a superior team last year, and did not make any improvements to their team in the mean time. Exactly how do you define 'killer instinct'? The ability to out-score a worn-out team despite giving up weak goals? In that case, yeah you have more of a killer instinct than us. As for our 'depth', we are deeper this year than last, whereas you have lived and died by your big guns and had very little else to rely on for scoring. Yeah, losing in OT of Game 7 in the Finals is choking.

WCF GAME 4 GDT: Red Wings 6, at Blackhawks 1

Anyone else pick up on Olczyk's not-so-subtle homerism a few minutes ago? "Detroit interferes better than any other team, those little moving screens...", what a whiner. Off topic, I have a feeling Leino will net one today.

WCF GAME 3 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Blackhawks 4 (OT)

I just got back from puking, unbelievable how badly the refs wanted Chicago to win this game. We had way too many chances to put them away, but no. Right from the get-go, starting with the phantom double-minor on Cleary, to the ejection on a clean hit by Kronwall, the refs could not have been more biased. The silver lining on this cloud of feces is that we can close this thing out at home in game 5. Very disappointed in the effort in OT, but we've been getting those kind of bounces too. I just hope I don't end up breaking my desk at work from pounding on it.

If the OT goes more than 5 minutes, we're in trouble. Who gets the game winner?

The Most Ridiculous Osgood Rumor Ever....

Brilliant, just brilliant. Someone needs to clone Datsyuk, program his memories and in 10 days dress them both. Neo-Datsyuk couldn't possibly be colder than actual Datsyuk at this point.

    lines friday night?

If Datsyuk can go, then change nothing. If he can't, then: Franzen/Zetterberg/Cleary (don't even dare touch that line) Hossa/Filppula/Holmstrom Samuelsson/Helm/Hudler Leino/Draper/Maltby (this line looked good during Leino's callup) Make whatever in-game adjustments you need to get favorable match-ups, but these combos look good to me. Also, I want to see Filppula get some real PP time, he's due to break his goal-less streak, last time it was a PP goal that did the trick. Another possibility is to keep Samuelsson/Filppula/Hudler together, play them as the 2nd line, put Helm between Hossa and Holmstrom, give them 3rd line minutes.

    Detroits Finest

Does anyone else see the question mark above my head? Seriously, what was the point of that, to show that your team is so insignificant that a random sampling of Red Wings fans can't even name one of your players? If so, well done. if not, I am still struggling to determine your intentions. This chick's an idiot, how dare she pose as a Wings fan, no integrity whatsoever.

I don't hate any of the hawks

None of the Blackhawks players have done anything to warrant any hatred, unless you count Burish dissing the Octopus in his little commercial before the playoffs. As a whole, they are respectable players, and speaking objectively, they are fun to watch. Eager has a history of taking cheap shots, but again he hasn't really done it to us yet, so no real hatred. The fans, on the other hand, there is some real hatred, mostly in response to the way they choose to bash on the city of Detroit and the economy in Michigan, as if that has anything to do with hockey. There's a difference between having pride in your city and your team and kicking someone while they're down, which is essentially what they are doing. Like many Wings fans, I started following the team while living in the Detroit area, but have since moved elsewhere. Like many expats, I still take pride in the city I called home, and take it personally when others who are completely ignorant of how great a city it is choose to drag it through the mud, all in the name of a sports rivalry that isn't even really a rivalry anymore. Shows a complete lack of class on the part of Blackhawks fans collectively, although I know it is really just a vocal minority and every team has them. If you don't like a team, then the team itself, their symbols, traditions, players past and present, coaching staff, etc. are fair game, but the line should be drawn at player's families, the fans on any individual level, and the city where the team plays. Keep it classy Hockeytown. Lets Go Wings! edit: Punctuation

    Ericsson's Number Next Year

Unless there is another number that has personal meaning to him, he should stick with 52. If he liked wearing #4 while at GR, he could switch back to that, but it would look funny with how big he is. I like 52, it's not a very common number, I can't think of very many other NHL'ers that have worn it.

The best "insults" you've heard against the Wings

Insult, without a doubt. I hate the Yankees without a passion, because they actually do what we get accused of, buying championships. Even when baseball put in that lame luxury tax, (which has done more to keep the smaller market teams down than a hard salary cap woudl have) they are consistently over, and Steinbrenner doesn't seem to mind that he's being penalized for throwing money at every big name free agent, only to lose. How many World series have the Yankees won in the same amount of time that we won our last 4 cups? I agree, that is easily the best, it aptly described the state of the team for many years, and it rhymes to boot.
  16. That is disturbing on so many levels

WCF GAME 2 GDT: Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 3 (OT)

I HATE OT in the playoffs........unless we win! Who'd have thought, Samuelsson for the win. Would've prefered that Filppula be the one to take the shot, but he made the right play. My heart can't take much more of this. Wow.

    Patrick Kane Plays With Dolls

Reading this story, I realized what is wrong with Corey Perry. He grew up playing with dolls, but he didn't have younger sisters to use as an excuse. Now, because of all the repressed shame he feels, he plays hockey like he's having a perpetual hissy fit. All joking aside, it's getting harder to summon up the hatred for these kids like with Anaheim, between Kane and Toews, who are undeniably the faces of this franchise, they have a couple of Boy Scouts who are as non-controversial and likeable as anyone in the league. I am sure we will take care of business in this round, but I'm looking forward to many more playoff matchups with this team, I'm sure the day will come when they clear that final hurdle (us) and make the Finals, but not anytime soon.
