WCF GAME 2 GDT: Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 3 (OT)

Second verse, same as the first. GO RED WINGS!!!!

    Sorry to say but....

+1, excellent idea. talex for Commissioner! Great idea, give the coaches 1 challenge per period, if the challenge is unsuccessful, the team gets a bench minor. I think this would eliminate a lot of the controversy that has been happening lately. Make everything challengeable, like the "intent to blow", penalties, goals, etc. Not only would the game not suffer (a coach isn't going to risk being short-handed unless he is sure he will overturn the call) but it would ensure that horrible officiating does not influence the outcome of playoff games and series.

    Blackhawks disrespect the octopus!

I hope they play this on the Jumbotron at the United Center, then a Wings fan throws an octopus on the ice and Burish tried to re-enact the commercial, then the curse will be on in full force. Of course, they will already be down 2-0 in the series, so if he has any brains at all, he will know better than to tempt fate again. :octo: :octo: :octo: :octo:

2009 WCSF GAME 7: Ducks 3 at Red Wings 4

What a game. I hate having to work during games, but I'm glad that part of my job is to watch the games. That was intense, let's catch our collective breath, ice up, and get ready to stick it to the Hawks. Looking forward to the Photoshop thread, and here's to Datsyuk, Filppula, and Holmstrom coming alive in the next round. I liked the line combos tonight, especially Flip on Pavel's wing. Go Wings, F the Ducks, Karma's a bee-yatch!

    Keith Jones is a %&*($@^(

I was watching the same segment, and I agree. Before the game went to intermission, one of the studio guys mentioned "questionable tactics" when referring to the end of Game 6, to which one of the play-by-play guys replied about trying to stir up controversy. Apparently, someone got on the phone with the studio guys and told them not to say anything bad about it. Now they're saying Niedermayer is "quite a leader" mentioning his "fighting major" clearly not wanting to call it what is was, a gutless act by a man who has no honor. I get nauseous when I see Perry swinging away and Rafalski clearly trying to cover up because he didn't want to aggravate his injury, which he just returned from. Someone needs to impale Perry on their stick, drive Getzlaf face-first into the glass, and slam Neidermayer's head in the door to the bench, not once but numerous times. Please, if their is any justice left in the universe, let these guys either be suspended (which I doubt) or get hurt.

    Niedermayer cheap shot and brawl

Hopefully I'm not the only one to point this out, but Holmstrom's elbow was clearly inadvertent, and even if they did call a penalty on it during the game (which they didn't), Niedermayer's elbow was 1) blatantly intentional, he looked right at him prior to throwing it, and 2) it was after the f'ing game. If he doesn't get suspended, then there is no justice. I just watched a segment on Vs about the Ducks cheapshots through the whole series. I only hope that the Niedermayer elbow wakes up Datsyuk like the Getzlaf pimp-slap did to Franzen. I see someone already pointed it out

Holmstrom off Datsyuk and Zetterbergs line

Normally I wouldn't even suggest this, but the evidence is just way too overwhelming. It's time for Holmstrom to get benched. If Draper can go in game 7, I say we dress him, scratch Holmstrom and Maltby, put in Leino. We have to pull out all the stops, and it's obvious that Maltby and Holmstrom are not what they used to be. Nothing would be worse than an off-season of what-ifs, and there comes a time when loyalty must face reality, and these guys aren't getting it done anymore. Here's my line-up for next game: Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Cleary Franzen-Filppula-Hossa Leino-Helm-Hudler Abdelkader-Draper-Samuelsson Lidstrom-Ericsson Kronwall-Stuart Rafalski-Lebda I love Homer, but he's too much of a liability right now, and we have to lay everything out on the line right now or there may not be another chance.

Is tonights game exclusively on versus?

The issue is that when Versus shares the rights with a team's local broadcaster, they black the game out for the local team's entire market. In the case of the SoCal teams, they have 2 networks, FS West and Prime Ticket, which is also a Fox Sports network. Fox Sports West has a broadcasting territory which includes all of California south of Monterrey, and extends as far east as Las Vegas and parts of Arizona. Prime Ticket has a smaller territory, but Versus blacks out based on the outer TV market for the team, not the network, so essentially, yes if you are in San Diego, you are being screwed, not by Versus but by Prime Ticket.

Mike Ilitch Voted Best Owner in NHL

Couldn't agree more. Of course, I work for #3 on the worst list, sorry Mr. Wang is a brilliant business man, but knows nothing about running a sports franchise, just look at his investment in Rick DiPietro, and sorry but the rumors about moving the team to Kansas City are only partly true, he never threatened to move the team out of New York, just to find a new arena somewhere else in the NY area if Nassau isn't fixed up. Much love to the Ilitch family, thanks for the Hot n' Ready, I love the Photoshop pic of Babcock that says "I can haz pizza for 5 bucks". Please Mr. Ilitch, buy the Lions from the Ford family and make them respectable again.

Why do you like the Red Wings?

Long story short, when I lived in Michigan as a kid I used to listen to Red Wings games on the radio, and I remember hearing the name Yzerman over and over again, so I was thoroughly convinced that he was the greatest hockey player in the world, an assesment that I still hold to this day. Through some lean years, several frustrating near-misses, a few broken toes ('95 SCF) and a new drywall in my bedroom ('96 WCF) followed by much celebration, I have not once had any reason to doubt my decision to remain a loyal wing-nut for 20+ years, and now that I have indoctrinated my wife and new son to all things Hockeytown, the tradition will remain strong through multiple generations. Stevie Y will always be my captain, and the Red Wings will eclipse the Canadiens as the winningest franchise in NHL history, mark my words.

WCSF GAME 6 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Ducks 2

5-2 Wings, Filppula finally gets a goal, then gets another one, Datsyuk gets the rest, including an empty-netter, after which the Ducks try to goon it up during handshakes, and the league looks the other way.

    Thrashers moving to Hamilton?

I don't see either scenario happening, although the Coyotes are the more likely of the two, given the financial considerations. The only way the NHL is going to put any more teams in Canada is if a big market like Toronto or Montreal takes on a second team (i.e. Hamilton). Winnipeg does not have the economy to support a team, though they would have a built-in following, and there is not really another city in Canada that is big enough to support a modern NHL franchise. It's sad that cities like Atlanta, Tampa, and Phoenix, where they have basically had to be force-fed hockey when nobody there cares about or understands the game, while hockey-crazed people in the homeland of the game have seen their beloved teams sent down to NASCAR territory. I've been to games in Raleigh (before they won the cup in '06), Atlanta, and Tampa, and it hardly felt like a hockey game. As much as I think having one or two teams move from black holes in the Southeast division to smaller but better markets in Canada, if it doesn't happen now, I don't think it ever will.

    5/8 Playoff GDT

I want all the other series to go 7 games. We need to finish ours off in 6, and given the comvincing win last night, it should be attainable. Penguins win 5-4, Malkin with the Hat. Bruins win 3-2 in OT.

    Colorado or Anaheim?

Well spoken, sir. Altough I disagree with the bolded section. Forsberg was a very skilled player, and very clutch scorer, but he was also a dirty player and was always trying to start stuff with our smaller forwards. I'll never forget, my favorite part of the big brawl in '97, more so than D-Mac pummeling Le Turtle, was Igor Larionov landing a haymaker on Forsberg's ugly mug after getting the business for most of the preceding shift. Anaheim has a long way to go before being considered a real rivalry, because as was stated more eloquently than I could, there is hatred, but no mutual respect. The ducks do not respect anyone, nor do their fans. They play like goons, and they only succeed when the refs look the other way. Whereas, our current lineup is made up of players who, with a few exceptions, would just as soon take a licking and let the power-play do the talking. I thoroughly enjoyed Ericsson standing up for himself and not letting Corey "the Fairy" Perry get away with his after-whistle antics, and while I cheered for Kopecky's effort, there was not much he could do once the punches started flying last night. Until I see Datsyuk or Zetterberg drop the gloves, this will never be close to the rivalry that existed between the Wings and the 'Lanche.

    FINALLY! LINE CHANGES!

The thing that stood out to me the most is this: Once Babcock put together Franzen, Filppula and Hossa, he never changed that line for the rest of the game, like he did with every other forward. He even kept them together as a power play unit, and we know how much Babcock likes to tinker with his PP units (not at all). I like the way he mixed up every other forward line at some point in the game, I saw combos that I never thought I'd see, even some that no one has ever suggested in posts here. Part of me wants Draper to sit the rest of this series so we can keep rolling the Hudler/Helm/Cleary line as our 3rd line, and even the Maltby/Kopecky/Samuelsson line cashed in for us tonight. If Draper can't go and Kopecky was injured in his 5 minutes for receiving incident, then you can plug in Abdelkader into the 4th line spot, and you will likely upgrade the forechecking and "grinding" play, as well as generating some still-needed energy. Boy, it feels really good to be talking about what went right for a change.
