12/28 GDT: Red Wings 0 at Blue Jackets 1 (OT)

I can't remember the last time the Wings were in a 0-0 tie, anyone know?

I don't want to get ahead of myself here, but Howard has been great in net tonight. My question is, if he continues to get the starts the rest of the season, and plays as well as he has, do you think he gets any Calder consideration, or is he even eligible for the Calder?

Wow, Janik got blitzed, then gets up and gets it handed to him in the fight, but at least he stood up for himself.

Abdelkader has been brutal on faceoffs lately, I like the Helm/Draper/Eaves line, but they need to split it up and have Draper take some draws, also I'd much rather have Eaves on Filppula's other wing instead of Maltby.

I keep hearing what sounds like shots off the goal posts, but I know it's not. Is that the metal part of the sticks banging together?

    Rafalski questionable tonight with flu

I'm pretty sure that the poster who put Stevie Y's picture up was referring to the fact that he played something like 9 or 10 YEARS with a torn ligament in his knee, and during the '02 season/playoffs, he was in such obvious pain that he was required to lean on his stick to pick himself up off the ice. Now if you want a hockey player to compare to Payton in terms of conditioning, Chelios comes to mind, more of an Ironman, still playing well into his late 40's, and was well known for outpacing teammates 10-15 years his junior in the gym.

    Justin Abdelkader Poll

Had to vote Perry, not only did Darth Kader whup up on him last time, but Perry is the type to try and pick a fight with a smaller player, and part of me just wants to see the Fairy get that goofy look knocked off his face permanently, whoever does it is fine by me, but I would prefer if a Wings player did the honors.

    TMZ Sports

Sean Avery is about the closest thing to a "villian" as the NHL has at this point, although his off-ice antics are sound-byte worthy, they are not on the level that TMZ would be able to sell to their viewership. Now, the wife-swapping that it supposedly going on in the Flyers locker room, that may make for a better story.

    Mickey Redmond appreciation thread.

I am simultaneously amused and annoyed by how quickly an "appreciation thread" can get derailed by someone who, for whatever reason, posts something contrary to the intent of the thread, and therefore draws the ire of other posters. That being said, I agree with those in here that appreciate Mickey Redmond, he is one of the best hockey color commentators of all time. True, he does have homer tendencies from time to time, and he harps on the composite sticks a little too often, but no one can question is passion for the sport in general, nor his vast knowledge of the game. Besides, by comparison he is probably the least biased color guy on any of the local TV networks that air NHL games. Having some favoritism of the team you watch every day and supporting the organization that essentially signs your paycheck is understandable, but some of these guys on FSN, especially Nashville, Atlanta, and Columbus, take it a little too far, while others such as the crews for Dallas, Minnesota, and Detroit are genuinely fun to watch even if you don't agree with their opinions. Long live Mick, it just isn't as much fun without him, and I for one will be sad when he calls it a career.

Wow, is Bert on fire or what?

He's had a few, but my point is that even for Homer, who has made a career out of ugly goals, that was a particularly ugly goal

12/19 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Dallas Stars 4

That was probably one of the ugliest goals I have seen Homer score, but hey a goal's a goal.

Difference is, I did mine in MS Paint. This guy actually paid money to have it put on a sweater.

12/17 GDT: Lightning 0 at Red Wings 3

Who is that Konopka guy, apparently he's leading the league in PIM's. Think he will tilt with May tonight? :fingerscrossed: It's crazy to think, I was at the game last year in Tampa, and neither team bears much resemblance between last year and this year's models. The Bolts got off to a hot start this year, and Stamkos is blowing away every one's expectations, but reality is starting to set in and Tampa is back in the bottom of the standings where they belong, and despite our injuries we are starting to pull it together and win the games we are supposed to win, so I predict a 4-1 Wings victory, Janik and May get their first goals of the season, Lidstrom gets of the schnide, and Z gets the empty-netter.

Bettman confirms wanting two winter classics next year

Toronto @ Montreal in Olympic Stadium Calgary @ Colorado at Mile High Stadium (or whatever they're calling it these days) Then, in a few years, have the Winter Classic at the Big House, imagine over 110,000 people at one hockey game.

Corey Fairy being Corey Fairy, gets away with a blatant elbow that gets ignored, then tries to fight a guy who's already been knocked down by his bodyguard.

'Stache runs Howard again, May wants to dance with somebody. PP for the Wings, how much you wanna bet Z gets chased from the faceoff?

12/11 GDT: Ducks 2 at Red Wings 3 (OT)

Wow, I'm in absolute shock!! Not only did they not allow the phantom goal, but they got the penalty right! Hallelujah

Why do they even bother having Hank line up for faceoffs? He gets chased every single time.

Are Any of These Teams for Real?

I've seen a lot of Kings games this season, and it looks like they are for real, they are getting their money's worth out of Kopitar, their D is pretty impressive, and Quick has been playing like a guy who can steal a few games. As for Phoenix, I don't see them staying this hot, and Colorado, they will only make it as far as Anderson can carry them, and I have a feeling they are going to overwork him, and there's no way they can rely on Budaj to step up if Anderson loses steam or gets hurt from playing too much. The Kings will definitely be in the playoffs, Colorado might be, and Phoenix will finish just outside, maybe 9th or 10th.
