NHL'S Top 10 most likely breakout players

IIRC he was not moved up to the 2nd line until the Chicago series, when he centered Franzen and Hossa for a couple of games, then he stepped into Datsyuk's spot while he was out of the lineup. Either way, it was no more than 50/50 top 6 time in the playoffs.

    30 Teams in 30 Days

Apparently my statement was misinterpreted. I meant some positive news, i.e. signing a free agent, making a trade, something to appease the doomsday posters here. I know that we have a lot of positives as a team, my point was that with all of the subtractions, it would be nice to have an addition or two, no offense to Delmore, Janik, and the other depth guys we signed for GR, but I want to know who is going to fill the vacancies on the 3rd/4th lines, and it would be nice to know at least one of them by the time they do this report on August 11th. That is all.

    We're going to be fine

That's why people are advocating bringing in guys like Grier, Malhotra, Prospal, Peca, and other veterans who have something to prove and may very well sign for cheap to get the opportunity to have that shot.

Scotty Bowman 7th best coach of all time

This topic was being debated on all of the ESPN shows this morning. Scotty needs to be ahead of everyone on this list except John Wooden. What that man did in college sports, where you are guaranteed to have a player for no more than 4 years, to have had the dynasty he built and the championship run spanning over 2 decades (10 in 12 years from '64 to '75), that will never be done again. That being said, Scotty did something no other coach has ever done: he has won championships with 3 different teams (MTL, PIT, and DET), and he won multiple championships with each team. That puts him ahead of Lombardi (5 championships), Bryant (6 championships), Shula (2 championships), tied with Auerbach (9 championships), and one behind Phil Jackson, who won his 10th this year. I still say he's better coach than Phil, who rode his superstars to glory, unlike Scotty who had a system that he pounded into the heads of his star players and got more out of his role players than anyone else could. I demand a recount!!

    We're going to be fine

I agree that the Wings will be fine next year, they may not be as explosive offensively on multiple lines, but last year was definitely an aberration in the modern NHL. Our top 6 forwards are as solid as any group in the league, not overly flashy, superior defensively. If we bring in any new forwards, we need to avoid re-treads like Bertuzzi and Williams and find someone who has something to prove and will sign for less than market value due to having an off year last season (like Prospal or Sykora) or someone who has had a bigger role and expectations elsewhere and would be willing to come and play on our 3rd/4th line for cheap and contribute in a lesser role (like Pyatt or Malhotra) Our defense is not as atrocious as it is made out to be, granted we were worse in 08/09 than in 07/08, but again I think that was a fluke rather than a trend. Lidstrom/Rafalski is arguably the best #1 pairing in the game today, and if we separate Kronwall and Stuart, I think both will have better seasons in 09/10. Ericsson is an emerging star, and Lilja (if he's healthy) is a solid partner for any of our 3-6 d-men, Lebda may end up being the trade casualty, which would not be a tremendous loss but I would be bummed. No one can expect that Osgood will be as horrible as last year, clearly his head was not in the game for much of the season and we were fortunate to have Conklin there to pick up the slack. Now that he has his head on straight, I expect Ozzie to continue to be solid, and Howard will have to live up to the faith the organization has had in him, otherwise we could be out the door at the deadline. All in all, I look forward to seeing how our core responds to losing in game 7, I expect our team to be that much more hungry and to surprise a lot of people by remaining an elite contender despite the mass exodus of free agents this off-season. Go Wings

Grier Could Bring Some Diversity to Hockeytown

The Red Wings are already doing their part for diversity, look who is listed on Wikipedia under List of ice hockey players of Middle Eastern descent, our own Justin Abdelkader.

    Biggest FA overpayment

I had to vote Other, since you cannot choose more than one option. All of the Montreal free-agents have been grossly overpaid, Spacek and Gionta specifically, Cammalieri may prove to be worth his contract, but that is still a maybe. Factor in the unimaginably poor judgement in trading FOR Scott Gomez and his bloated carcass of a contract, Montreal is going to be in real trouble financially while fielding a less competitive team than last year.

    What is the likelihood...

I don't see this happening. Even taking his off years into consideration, I do not seeing taking a deal for less than a 3 million cap hit, which still puts him out of our price range. Also, as has been pointed out, the Hudler situation has significantly tied our hands, so the likelyhood of the Red Wings making any moves whatsoever, especially adding a high profile free agent for that kind of money, is remote. Not that I would mind seeing Tanguay broght in, I think he could be made to fit our system, but I really don't see it happening. Regardless of how the Hudler situation plays out, I doubt the Wings will bring in anyone for more than a million dollar cap hit, which means it will likely be a grit/energy guy to play on the 3rd/4th lines, and they will likely invite a few reclamation projects (ala Dan Cleary) to camp for a non-roster tryout. :crosses fingers: Mark Bell :crosses fingers:

Top 10 Saves of the Year 08/09

I lol'd at #3, they put the spotlight on Blake as though he scored, but no! The lighting guys at Air Canada Center must have been starving for something to celebrate.

    Whats the deal with Oulahan

The point of posting the numbers is mainly because the OP said he/she could not find them anywhere. I personally could care less if he is an upgrade or a downgrade, I'm just saying that we wouldn't be risking much by bringing him up if we can't land a UFA to fill in the 3rd/4th line vacancy, and we all know how our organization hates letting prospects go through waivers (ala Kyle Quincey) unless it's absolutely necessary.

    Cody Mccormick

That was Cody McLeod, not Cody McCormick. I thought the same thing myself, but then I looked it up on Youtube, it;s not the same guy.

    Whats the deal with Oulahan

Ryan Oulahen's hockey statistics profile at hockeydb.com Ryan Oulahen Left Wing Born Mar 26 1985 -- Newmarket, ONT Height 6.00 -- Weight 185 -- Shoots L 2005-06 Grand Rapids Griffins AHL 75 9 10 19 20 2006-07 Grand Rapids Griffins AHL 79 11 16 27 42 2007-08 Grand Rapids Griffins AHL 75 14 16 30 47 2008-09 Grand Rapids Griffins AHL 73 19 12 31 31 Not bad numbers, I say we give him a chance, and if he doesn't pan out, we cut him loose and try to make a deal at the trade deadline. Of course, if he were a right-handed shot, he would be a lock.

Bummer, all of the games against the Southeast division are in Detroit, guess I won't be going to any games this season. Oh, well, I guess there's always the slim chance that we play either the Lightning or the Panthers in the SCF

    Who do we target now?

All this talk of bringing back former Wings has got me to thinking... We should make a trade to bring back Kozlov. Anyone know what his cap hit is?
