1/15 GDT: Blue Jackets 5 at Red Wings 6 (OT)
Miss Wing Queen replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Joey Mac really is a nice guy. I had the pleasure of having him at my table during the Training Camp golf outing dinner. Go, Joey! Keep up the good work. We sure need it. BTW, it's great to see his enthusiasm for being up in the NHL. That's what I like about having some of the younger guys up from Grand Rapids. "I know. We've heard." Ken Daniels, referring to Murph's obsession with $1 hot dogs. Ha ha. Love it. -

Holland Trying to Bring Larsson in as Howard's Backup?
Miss Wing Queen replied to VM1138's topic in General
Honestly, I don't believe anything unless there is a source. And that is just a poster in the MLive article who claims he read an online story detailing all this (which I have yet to locate). I understand there is some discretion used by management in the NHL, but I really don't think it sounds like Holland to hide such drastic of news about Ozzie, or to pursue a guy who dismissed the Wings' organization the way Larsson did, or to want to go through all the hassle of trying to bring Larsson back when MacDonald is a more proven NHL goalie, who is showing signs of meshing well with the team. Besides, the money it would take for Larsson to return would be better spent on a veteran goalie on the NHL market before it would be spent on an ex-AHLer. The other flaw in the article is that Larsson's profile is not on the Wing's website currently. No offense to the OP, but this just sounds like a load of manure, and "I hate manure!" -
OMG . . . :rotflmao: But seriously, I think the blame goes to Umberger for starting all this s***. If he hadn't been trying out his triple axle jump, Mike wouldn't have started the injury parade.

"Ken Holland takes temporary personal leave for three weeks to deal with an acute onset of panic attacks. Symptoms began after Holland began planning who his backup to goaltender MacDonald who be, and after he realized he himself was next on the call-up list." -

I'm sorry, but as much as Howie needs to get his head back in the game, it's better to have him on the bench than on the injured list. This team can't take any more hits right now. Let's just cross our fingers that this knee bruise is only a couple of games or a couple of weeks instead of months. -

Okay, so I like Thomas, but I didn't want to bring him up this way. I'm keeping my Xanax by me until tomorrow when we'll either breathe a sigh of relief or be crying even more over our injuries. -

We have two Hanks on the team now? Ha ha . . . Maybe that's why he has the longest shots per game streak going if there's more than one of him! Here's to SR getting a goal and JR getting a goal and laying out Umberger (since Stuie can't do it again right now). Wings 3-2, with third goal coming VERY late in the third. -
A very special "Happy Birthday" to our resident heavy hitter #55 Nik Kronwall! Have a great day, Nik, and enjoy your big birthday!

Or better yet, have half the team chant: "WHAT TIME DO WE START?" And the other half chant back: "AT FIRST PUCK DROP!" I think the team is going to struggle until the All Star break but pull out more wins than they did last year with this many injuries. They need to all get their confidence back. Look at the beginning of the year when they came in and played solid defense, 60 minutes a game, and with spirit mostly every night. I think a lot of that came from knowing and believing they were a skilled, deep team. They just got to get that back--stop thinking so much or trying to make the cute play and play simple hockey. It'll come back to them eventually.

I'm going to give this one to our boys. After a while, I've got to believe that the mental exhaustion of having another teammate head to the injured list eats away at them. It's not an excuse, but it is a factor. I don't blame Jimmy 100% either tonight, since the team looked really sloppy in the first. I'd say it was 50/50. But whatever . . . rest up and move on, boys. Six games until Pavel and Cleary come back.

I think that would help to even the lines out more, but I wouldn't mind seeing Helm next to Z as well with him doing great lately. Will they score after splitting the puck in two with only one half going in (as discussed in the video of that earlier this week)?

This really sucks, especially if this is Ozzie's last season. During the post game interview, Babs said he was going to maintain the same rotation schedule, with Joey playing anytime Ozzie was scheduled to start.

^^That is just great! Babcock (bustling around his kitchen): "Okay. I got a problem here, guys. I got warm toast. I got no butter, man. This is a major crisis for me. Unbelievable." :rotflmao: BTW, thanks for posting that. It was really interesting to see a general idea of how the coach's and players' day goes.

I'm glad something was done, seeing as the Wings usually have no luck when in comes to retribution for injuries to our players. I think that in order to make the point more clearly, the punishment does need to be more severe. I wonder if it would be better to enforce steeper fines since some of these goons are third and fourth liners whose lost minutes are not felt as much but who would certainly feel the pain more if it was coming directly out of their pocketbooks. Should we maybe start having them pay the injured player's medical bill? Or even better, how about the salary the injured player loses for the games he is out? That might get it through their thick skulls that these types of hits are disgraceful to the game of hockey.

Thanks a lot! My Chelioses are officially pissed in. Alright, everyone. It's bedtime for me. These back to back late nights and having to be at work at 8am this morning have done me in. Sleep is needed!

And we are the only team to give them their two loses. Damn, you beat me to it. It's funny, I don't see that poster from last night trolling the boards tonight. Jimmy was FANTASTIC tonight. The only thing I ask is that he doesn't let it go to hell-in-a-hand basket on Tuesday. Please.

Friggin' curling . . .

Just a theory, but does Jimmy only play well when at least 30% of the team is out injured?

I call Paul Boyer with a festering wound caused by a splinter from carrying all the hockey sticks. How about TMc instead of JMac? Joey was just okay when he filled in some. How about seeing what Tommy boy does in an NHL game? And by the way, psychologically, I can't take all these injuries anymore. I'm going into hibernation for the sake of my mental health. Somebody please wake me when it's March. P.S. Anybody wonder if Malts is kicking himself for retiring? He probably would have been called up (not that I would have wanted the call ups taken away from Tatar and Mursak).

In theory, this is a good way to handle these injuries. However, the NHL would still screw it up like they do regular penalties now. A player blatantly head-hunting and looking to do real damage would be overlooked, and a well-meaning yet competitive player looking to finish his play, like Kronwall, would end up out for weeks, the same way obvious slashes (ahem . . . see New Year's Eve game against Islanders) are not called but barely making contact with your stick on another player (Bert's penalty last night) is called. Whatever the NHL does, not just in this case, it would be nice if they were consistent. They called so much attention to the fact they were going to "crack down on these blindsided hits," but they can't pull their heads out of their asses long enough to put together either an established layout for discipline or a better training program for the refs to more accurately identify these hits or both. I think because (1) the heads of the NHL are incompetent beyond belief and (2) it is such a subjective type of penalty that it will be a while before things are satisfactorily worked out and resolved. Either way, best of luck, Stuie! We wish you a very speedy recovery!

Perhaps Jimmy should talk to Austin Powers because his mojo is completely MIA at this point. The guy needs some confidence more desperately than Murph needs an AA meeting.
