Finally! I asked him again about it at the STH Meet and Greet last Tuesday, and he seemed really frustrated that it hadn't arrived yet. He said he been waiting almost two months for it to show up. Hope it looks fantastic. Can't wait to see it.

Ditto & Ditto! Plus, this is a team sport. They win as a team and they lose as a team. It can't all rest on one person's shoulders.

Jimmy's out w/back spasms, MacDonald recalled
Miss Wing Queen replied to CapnSmitty's topic in General
Must be because of the "hard core" workout the boys have been doing. -
Oh my God, stop! You're killing me. Besides, Ozzie's got a little rust on him from being stuck on the ice too much and Babs not properly rotating clipboard starts between him and Jimmy.
-
No offense to our guys, but screw their three stars. My three stars: 1. Jimmy! 2. Flip 3. Mule

It sounded like his tongue got ahead of him, but did anyone else think it sounded like Ken just said Franzen had nice "boobs" instead of moves?
-
What I don't understand is why does Abdelkader have to fight for a position when he gets healthy and Ericsson doesn't have to? To me, there should be no distinction between forwards and defense in that regard, especially since Babs always preaches that those who work hard and show results will get more ice time.

The ads were on the glass at the end of last season for sure, and probably before then too. I agree with some of the other posts here--they don't bother me because I'd rather focus on the action on the ice than whats on the glass (unless it's the opposing team's face smashed into the glass)!

In that case, somebody's got some daddy issues. I'm happy for Lils for the fact that he doesn't have to leave the NHL and go play in Sweden. I definitely wish it was a team more worthy of what a great person and teammate Lilja is. I'll miss him for sure. I like how Salei plays, but I do hope to maybe see Lils back in the Winged Wheel someday.

Well, the thing is is that the whole league talks about it before it becomes an official rule and makes such a flurry over it, and now that it is in the handbook, the refs do the routine thing and completely ignore any official call pertaining to it, especially when it concerns the Wings. They only can "do their job" when they call imaginary penalties*. *See 2010 Stanley Cup Playoff Quarter-Finals Phoenix vs. Detroit and 2010 Stanley Cup Playoff Semi-Finals San Jose vs. Detroit. .

This is friggin' hilarious. But I want to know, and what is probably even funnier, is what the hell she really is so upset about?

I very much agree with all that you said too, but I think you gotta give the fourth line more credit. Eaves didn't really have that much of a preseason and this was his first game back, so he was just getting his legs back. I was a little disappointed that Helmer didn't add to the night by getting a shortie. They did their job as 4th-liners, but that line will be shuffling a lot, so it will take some time for it to fully gel again. This is what I was thinking too. My biggest impression so far is just that of "Excitement." It's a little more than just the new season starting, or the players we've added or who are healthier, it's excitement over the many possibilities of this season. It just feels like all the pieces are in place and there's no telling where or how far this team can go. My mind was starting to go towards a shutout late in the second period, but I refused to say anything aloud so as not to jinx Howie.

I was starting to thinking he might just been BSing me about the new mask. Can't wait to see the new one.

I had posted this in the training camp thread. Holland also mentioned two things in regards to the vets and Draper. One, he made the point of saying, (me paraphrasing) "Why do we keep the older guys around? Well, we keep them on the team, and every 4 years or so we're driving down Woodward, and they're usually in a convertible somewhere down the line having gotten us there." He also mentioned that during one of the Phoenix games last season, Helm had lost a face off that resulted in a game winning goal, and at practice the next day, who was it out on the ice with Helm, practicing all the "strategies" for winning a face-off? Draper, the "player at the top of the league the previous year in face-offs won." Like it or not, Holland likes his cocktail of veteran and younger players and knows the fine line he walks in regards to bringing new players up in a timely fashion but also getting the most value (in his eyes) out of the experienced players too.

9/24 Pre-season GDT: Chicago Blackhawks at Red Wings

He and Tatar were VERY good at camp, followed closely by Smith and Tardiff. I don't want to see them too quickly, but I definitely can't wait for them to come to the NHL. Anyone gotten a good look at Jimmy's 2nd new helmet? He told me I had to wait till this week to see it, but the picture is so fuzzy, I can't tell what it is. -

This was before the second period began, when all the players were skating around. Ilari went over to Valtteri to talk to him, but as usually is the case with my camera when taking sports pictures, sometimes the timing just gives you pictures that are funny looking. There's one in there of Homer posing in a funny way, and one of Doug Janik and Datsyuk that is pretty cute too. -
Here's my video of the Wings' Three Stooges/Abbott & Costello. It took forever to download to PhotoBucket. It's great to hear the crowd's reaction to their antics. Thanks, boys, for a great show!

Really enjoyed today's practices too. My pictures are up for Day 3. I am slowly uploading my video of Pavel, Zetterberg, and Homer playing keep away as well as other videos. It was very funny and the definite highlight for the day. Got to meet Eaves, Modano, Hudler, Lidstrom, Filppula, and McCollum today. My group was talking to Val about how much he looks like his brother, and I said, "But you're definitely the cuter one," then teased him by saying, "But you wouldn't know if we said that to him yesterday as well." To which, he replied, "No, it's definitely me." Helm, and V. Filppula both had nice goals today, and Miller got the overtime goal. Tatar and Tardiff were really doing well. Helm also almost had a breakaway. I asked him what his goal for shorties this season would be, and he kind of chuckled and said he didn't know. One of my group said 35, and he goes, "Oh, I don't know about that many!" Liked his Charlie Brown (his favorite character) T-shirt. It was also nice to meet Kira and Loki today too. Can't wait for tomorrow's Red and White game. I'll probably end up with 500 pictures. -

I just posted more videos to my photobucket album for Day 2. Sorry, they take so long to download. On an interesting side note, I went to a dinner tonight for Season Ticket holders with a friend who is one, and got to talk one-on-one with Howard and Ericsson. I asked Jimmy what he did with his old mask, and he said it was officially retired. But then he said that the Doc Oct one is a back-up and that his real new one hasn't arrived yet. I then said, "You're probably not going to give me any hints as to what's on it, are you?" and he replied with a smirk, "No, sorry, you'll just have to wait until next week to see that one." Ken Kal and John Keating MCed the event and kept us laughing while we ate until Ken Holland showed up for a question and answer session. As he was talking, he discussed the future of goaltending in Detroit and felt Howie was the long term answer, and also mentioned he was a big fan of veteran players, indicating that Osgood (and players like Draper too) complimented the new guys on the team because they were "company" men who would do anything (take less pay and less of a role) for the team's sake. He mentioned he had read on the internet how "people are saying 'well so and so is too old' and such," so for those who wonder if they read and visit LGW, maybe. I wished I had a tape recorder because he discussed a lot of interesting points that many on here would love to listen too (shoot outs, new prospects who've impressed him, the team this season), but sadly, I didn't have one handy. Glad you all are enjoying the "Live" coverage here in Traverse City. Just wish I could have a media pass to get better pictures. -

Here's my pictures from Day 2. Lots more of the players came out to sign. I got to watch some of the scrimmage and practices too. Downey was looking faster than he has before and much sharper on the puck. Out of the prospects/younger guys, Owens is definitely one to watch. When he signed for me, I said that I liked his goal from yesterday, and he replied, "I had one today too. Did you see that one?" Tatar is also doing really well. Franzen went skates first into the boards during the scrimmage, and I had bad flashbacks from early last season, but he slowed down before he hit the boards. The Z-D-H line is looking really good--can't wait to see them in action. More to come tomorrow. I'll add video tonight too from the scrimmage. -

Okay, everyone: Had to quickly learn how to use PhotoBucket, but I've got my pictures and one video up from today. I'll try to get more video from practice and scrimmage tomorrow. Some pictures came out great and others a little blurry. Hopefully next year, I can get a more professional camera. Also went to the dinner last night and was at the table with Joey MacDonald. Great guy and nice to talk to. Here's the link: DRW Training Camp 9/18/10 Enjoy! I'll keep 'em coming, now that I have WiFi. -

I don't have video capability on my phone, but I'll be glad to post pictures as long as I have an internet connection where I'm staying.
