    Toni Rajala

Most of the places Ive seen list him as 5foot8 to 5foot10, but according to McKenzie and other people I listen to hes not 5foot ten yet. Ive read somewhere, and ive posted this a few times on this forum, his doctor said he should grow to just under 5foot11. They checked the spacing between his bones or somethig along those lines, you know what I mean. If i remember right, the exact listing was 5feet, 10.85inches. Close enough to 5foot11 Like Drake Marcus mentioned, about the combine results, hes really weak. At the combine they did the bench press test, and Rajala could only bench 150pounds four times, and a bunch of folks think they fudged that to make him look ok. Im near his size, but a few pounds heavier(just fat LOL), and I can do way better. The other players at the combine could to. Hes quite far behind in the strength tests, to the point where its a problem. All these other smaller players that have played in the league, like Kane, they all had enough strength to go along with that small size. This kid doesnt. Im not saying dont pick him, Im no scout, but thats what people are holding against him. I have no problems with the wings risking apick on him though....you cant win if you dont gamble.

    Samuelsson Selling His House?

hahaha. He was good at that wasnt he, sometimes a goalies best friend. I remember being a little tipsy watching Sammy on the powerplay teeing off these big shots that miss the net by the mile, and I just have to LOL, when it makes a huge thud as it hits the boards....

    2009 NHL Entry Draft GDT

He seems like a good pick doesnt he? Has any wing scoped this guy out?: CHARLES-OLIVIER ROUSSEL "NHL Central Scouting's Gary Eggleston: Roussel is vastly improved from last year; and elevated his game to another level during the playoffs. He has grown, his skating and passing game has improved. Showed good maturity with puck, doesn't panic, smart accurate passing game. Does a good job on PP; good hockey sense, moves puck well, moves to center will puck to open shooting lanes, creates offensive chances. Head up, good mobility with puck, and is willing to carry. Plays a solid game in all three zones; reads play well and anticipates well, body positioning. Keeps it simple in DZ and on PK, moves well, closes gap quickly but could have been more active with stick in passing lanes." http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?fid=11895 Hes already nearly 200Pounds and hes 6foot1. By the time he enters the league hell be 210-215 or so. Likens himself after Dion Phaneuf, he is known for his crushing hits. I know Nil said Detroit is leaning towards taking a defensemen over all other positions, so, I figured he could be what we are missing. Hes a righty too! Im just picturing our blueline in a few years, it could be big and tough... -Kindl 6foot3 already 205, maybe 215 someday. Physical, Offensive D -Erricson 6foot5 will be like 220 someday Semi Offensive D, plays Defensively and physical -Kolosov is 6foot4 210 already, will be 220-225 some day (Kolosov might not make it to the nhl), defensive D man, strong physical player -Stuart is 6foot2 213 and is a crushing hitter -Kronwall is only 6feet 190, but he plays bigger and crushes people already -Brendan smith is 6foot2, and about 185 now, he could be 200pounds by the time he enters the leauge. More of a offensive Dman thats not overly physical oh well. -We could Add Roussel to the mix, a 6foot1 215(in the future) pound bone jarring hitter with all around good skills. I like that Defense. Plenty of offense with some good defensive talent, with lots of size, and lots of physicality. There are no slow players on that D, maybe Kolosov would be the slowest but hes not known for having a huge speed weakness. I really like that D. If i was Cindy Crosby in a few years I would not want to face that s***. That goes for any player. Maybe if we dont pick Roussel with our first 2nd rounder, we could grab him with our second one. Just a thought....

    2009 NHL Entry Draft GDT

A quick question, but for Free agents like Hossa and Bowmeister, could their negotiating rights be traded for a pick in this draft, or would it have to be next years draft? I dont know if their is a rule for it. People talk about Bowmeister fetching a third for his rights, well Id imagine Hossas rights would net the same. It would be nice to have yet another third rounder in this years draft, or even trade our extra 2 third rounders for an extra second(something the wings likely wont do). I just figured with the cap being the same, Hossa is gone, why not get a pick out of it?

    2009 NHL Entry Draft GDT

I agree with the points youve made. I was choked when we traded that pick, i wanted Ashton. In some places Ashton is listed at 6foot two, but there are a bunch of places that list him at a bit over 6 foot 3. Ive seen his pics, he can add considerable weight to that frame, his shoulders are WIDE. He could be easily 6foot3 225-230 by the time hes 25. But we got an extra pick, a mid third, in a deep draft. The wings know what they are doing in the draft, their strategy is sound, they know more then us, so.... I wonder if we take Tatar or Orrielly with our first pick. I know our teams scouted both quite a bit.

The wings must not be high on despres or ashton. Im so unhappy. WTF. They must want someone else that others dont rank as highly. They have a method to their madness, but Ashton would be what we need. We need a powerforward. Whats the extra pick we get besides the 33rd pick? My tsn feed didnt mention it.

Yeah, that would be so nice. What do you guys think about KYLE PALMIERI? I know we need to get bigger, but hes like a wendyl clark type body. Hes mad strong, he blew everyone away at the combine with his strength. He might be there at 29 but i have a feeling hes going to get picked before it.

Im checking out whos left and following this draft ranking: http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?fid=11892 Its handy because it lists all the other rankings from the different organizations, plus player info. Im wondering who Detroit gets. Orielly & Tatar, are all guys Ive heard the wings have looked at, but do they have them ranked high enough to take with their first pick. Im guessing no.. Despres and Ashton are stil available after the canucks picked shroeder...

"At 6'2½, Spinks decided he had the underpinnings for additional weight. As a pro he had never fought at more than 174½ pounds; in his defense against David Sears earlier this year, he weighed only 170½. His average fighting weight was 173. To bulk up for Holmes, Spinks brought in New Orleans nutritionist Mackie Shilstone, 34, a former Tulane football player, who put him on a 4,500-calorie diet sliced into 65% carbohydrates, 20% protein and 15% fat. It was mostly made up of vegetables and grains." Link Spinks won the heavweight belt so it worked. "But Mayweather Sr. said Ellerbee has no expertise in the area and "just has his hand out and is looking for a paycheck." Mayweather Sr. said if his son wants to bulk up, he should hire someone such as Mackie Shilstone, who helped Roy Jones Jr. put on 20 pounds of muscle for his WBA heavyweight title victory last week. " Link "Yo-yo dieting definitely can and does adversely affect athletic performance, said noted New Orleans nutritionist and physical-conditioning guru Mackie Shilstone, who has applied what he has learned about the human body to his associations with such notable fighters as Michael Spinks, Riddick Bowe, Roy Jones Jr. and Bernard Hopkins. Shilstone helped bulk up Spinks, Jones and Hopkins the proper way, and he helped Bowe pare down just as sensibly. “When I was brought into the Bowe camp by Rock Newman, it was not only to bring Bowe’s weight down, but to improve his stamina,†Shilstone said. “I started with him for the (Pierre) Coetzer fight. After that, Bowe got the chance to take Evander Holyfield’s title, and he did." Link “His name is Mackie Shilstone. His client list reads like a who's who of athletic“ Link Here is a good bio on him: “Over 1000 professional athletes have turned to Mackie Shilstone to give them the body, the drive, ...“ Link

His doc said he grows to just under 5'11, they checked out how much growth he had left inhis bones. Hes listed as 5'10 now but everyone says thats garbage. Hes only 163 pounds now. Speaking of players putting on weight, its too bad the wings dont hire mackie shilstone(might have spelled it wrong). Hes like one of the worlds best at bulking athletes up without slowing them down too much. We have a bunch of smaller skilled players. It would be great to see Huds, Mursak, Flip, Lieno, all put on 15 pounds of muscle, and start holding their own, or pushing people around LOL(not quite).

Thats why they are the islanders..... Dont toss away a third rounder in this deep draft... To anyone watching the Draft on whatever tv station, I'm watching the TSN feed via my computer...if anyone of you are watching a different station, has anyone spoken about the Wings at all? I havent heard anything on tsn, but I have missed a couple mins here and their. Any feedback is appreciated. TIA

Islanders should have waited till their pick 16th overall (that they traded for) to pick De Haan because he would have been available then too. They threw away their other picks (3rd plus a late rounder) to move up four spots. Dumb move. I thought they were going to pick Kulikov. Islanders.....

    Chris Pronger traded to Philly

Ouch, two first rounders? Pronghead is already 34? Hes on the gentle slide down already. hes still good and everything, but its a bit much. Lupol is more a salry dump and didnt have much value by himself because of it. Sbisa is nice. Is he going to play this year?

Yeah, and the crappy thing is they have to wait a full year before they can trade him after they match the offer per the rules. Leaves us in a bad situation.
  22. Nice link. I checked it out, and scanned a few players we might like. To the other poster who mentioned Tatar in this thread, I know the wings like him, but will he be around with our second pick, the 58th? I'm not to sure they will use their 1st for Tatar. I heard LA likes him, i think they take him with their 2nd rounder(is that 35th overall?). I would love it if the wings will pick a forward. From that link you provided, their is a pic of Dylan Oslon, and Ive seen it before...does he have something wrong with him or is he just really tired? He looks stoned: I posted this article in another thread, but will post it here since it applies to the draft and its a great read. Jim Nill thinks the wings will draft another D man early...check it out: Wings assistant GM Nill marvels at depth of NHL draft Comparable to 2003 gold-standard lottery By Dave Waddell, Canwest News ServiceJune 17, 2009 DETROIT €†For Detroit Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill, next weekend's National Hockey League entry draft is going to be a little different and it's not just because he'll get to make a pick in the first three rounds. Instead of hoping Detroit can nab a good player with the 29th pick overall, Nill knows there'll be a good player available for the Wings. "It's a very strong draft," said Nill, who oversees the Wings' drafting and scouting departments. "Every draft always has 10 to 12 high-end talents early. "This year there's lots of depth from 15 through 35. There's lot of real good players in there. You could toss the players that'll go 15 to 35 up in the air and take one because they have just as good a chance to become solid NHLers as anyone else." The draft is so good, Nill compares it the 2003 draft. That draft has become the gold standard by which all drafts are measured. Among the talents taken that year were Marc-Andre Fleury (1), Eric Staal (2), Thomas Vanek (5), Ryan Suter (7), Dion Phaneuf (9), Jeff Carter (11), Dustin Brown (13), Brent Seabrook (14), Robert Nilsson (15), Zach Parise (17), Ryan Getzlaf (19), Brent Burns (20), Ryan Kesler (23), Mike Richards (24), Corey Perry (28), Loui Eriksson (33), Patrice Bergeron (45) and Shea Weber (49). "That was one of best drafts ever," Nill said. "This one has depth like that. "Still, no matter who we pick, it's going to be three to five years before you see them in Detroit." Nill said there's a possibility the Wings could move up or down in the draft. The only round of the nine the Wings will be without a pick in is the fourth. That goes to Los Angeles as part of the February 2008 trade for defenceman Brad Stuart. "Someone has to be there you like and you have to have a dance partner," Nill said. "There's lots of talk already. "But you never know until the day arrives. Some years, I thought there'd be nothing and there's 20 trades. Other years, you expect a lot of trades and nothing happens." Nill said all things being equal, he expects the Wings to select a defenceman early. It's the position the Wings value above all else. "You can never have enough defencemen," Nill said. "For sure, we'll draft a defenceman in either Round 1 or 2. "We already have a pretty good stock of defencemen, but we're thinking there might be someone there we never thought would be there like when Jiri Fischer fell to us (25th overall in 1998)." Nill said the Wings have no real glaring shortages in their minor league system after shoring up the goaltending position by taking Thomas McCollum with their first pick last June and signing free-agent goalie Jordan Pearce out of Notre Dame this spring. "We really do have balanced depth in our organization right now," Nill said. "We're always greedy guys, though. We don't want a break in that talent pipeline. "I think the playoffs showed how deep we are at forward. We have a lot of good kids. We were very happy with what we saw in the minors last season."

If You Think Hudler's NOT worth $3 Million...

If Huds signs that offer sheet, I hope it is. I searched for any info, and only found a blogger and a couple of forum posters talking about next years draft being comparable to this years draft, but thats not good sources of info IMO. Without spending more time searching using diff methods cause the search engine didnt return much, I cant say it will be as good. I heard the top ten is quite good. According to the scouts this years is the best in 6 years, read the article below its a good read, I found it doing the searc I just mentioned above: Wings assistant GM Nill marvels at depth of NHL draft Comparable to 2003 gold-standard lottery By Dave Waddell, Canwest News ServiceJune 17, 2009 DETROIT — For Detroit Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill, next weekend's National Hockey League entry draft is going to be a little different and it's not just because he'll get to make a pick in the first three rounds. If You Think Hudler's NOT worth $3 Million...

Its good in theory, and I like the idea myself but it cant happen. The soonest a team can sign Huds is the 26th of this month, the sa,e day as the draft, and the process wont get done in one day, we cant move up in this years draft and get picks from Huds....the picks come from the next years draft. Check out the blurb below and the site it came from for more info. I so want to do what you have suggested. What sucks for us is, if a team signs him for say "$2,615,622", we only get a 2nd and third, and if we match, then our cap is hurt right, so you cant get out of the cap issue of his now bigger contract by trading him, you have to wait a full year after you match his RFA offersheet proposal before we trade him. Teams could get away with taking him for a 2nd and a third most likely, and we have nothing to show for it except picks from next years draft. Taken from: NHLSCAP

If You Think Hudler's NOT worth $3 Million...

Good post with some excellent points. They do have enough faith in Hudler Offensively to put him on the pp over flip at this point. Other then that, I do agree with your post. If this draft wasnt so deep and the cap and economy werent in question, I could see a team offering hudler a 3 million "ish" contract.
