I just ask them to put forth a solid effort for 20 minutes. No dumping in and going for a line change crap. At least make an attempt at a comeback.

Trust me, the mentality of being down 3-1 going into second period intermission is a lot better than being down 3-0. I hope they come out with a spark in the 3rd.
