Maybe Datsyuk is angry that Scotty worked him over, and he wants to get some tips.
-
Not necessarily - he often kept them on, from what I could see. That is how he executed his patented 'throw a punch and miss deliberately so that my elbow pad goes into their face' technique.

Might be interesting to see the battle of the top goal-scorers on each team... John Tavares vs Mikael Samuelsson

GDT 10/9/09 Detroit Red Wings v.s. Dallas Stars, Prospects Tournament
NGKEIB replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
I just heard an interview with him here (http://bit.ly/tBFYX). Talks about how he's taken some boxing and wrestling lessons, and wants to have more of a scoring (as opposed to energy) role this season, but still fighting a lot. Oh, and it turns out that he didn't lose his two front teeth in a fight - he got hit by a puck there when fooling around with some friends during the offseason -
The way you put it here I agree with. Didn't Stuart have to take a year out to injury? I wouldn't midn seeing Lilja doing the same. LTIR for the whole year, to give us cap space, and to make sure that he recovers fully.

I read that in this fight (on some article somewhere) that it started with Callahan landing some big ones, but eventually the bigger and older Ranger evened things out, and probably took the 'win'. He's still very small/young. Andy Bezeau mk 2? -
Lilja had 66 PIM, including 3 fighting majors. Kronwall had 50 PIM, including 0 fighting majors.
-
Lilja's stats for 2008-9: 60 2 11 13 13 66 Stuart's stats for 2008-9: 67 2 13 15 -3 26 He also had a better plus-minus than Kronwall and Lebda.
-
I would have agreed with everything you said about Lilja if you weren't referring to last season. He was one of our better, and certainly one of the most consistent defensemen. Kronwall and Stuart weren't clicking, and if you accuse Lilja of making dumb decisions with the puck, look at how many times Rafalski gave it away in front of the net. Who would you rather have? Lebda? Meech? I certainly would like him back, but I think that he'll be on the LTIR list (which isn't a bad thing, considering our cap situation).
-
Lilja threw a cheap shot! Let's get him out of here along with all of our other dirty players. Goodbye Maltby, Draper, Kronwall, Holmström, Stuart, Franzén etc. Why would you not want him back? Because he 'made a dirty play' and got beaten up? Are you forgetting what a good season he was having? He's been forced to play the enforcer a number of times because there is no one else, and with that considered, he hasn't done that badly...
-
I hope you realised I was being sarcastic re Samuelsson...
-
Well, unlike Havlat, Hossa isn't made of glass. And he's much bigger than Kronwall, but who knows? Maybe the Upstate New York Teamsters Union could bribe him to take out Kane By the way, re your signature, where does Douglas Murray fit in? I like how you deliberately didn't include Mikael Samuelsson there, just because it's so obvious there is no point in stating it. I seem to recall that during the playoffs someone posted a picture of him where he had tape around his gloves tightening them. Clearly an NHLPA directive forced Samuelsson to keep his gloves taped on, so that he didn't destroy someone.

Is it 9 goals let in in two games?
-
I was thinking of 87-88 regular season (same year), where he and Klima both got 62 points, but Klima had more goals. I don't know why I said that he had the most on the team though - Gallant and that one guy called Yzerman were ahead of him. Must have conflated playoffs and regular season. But my original point still stands...
-
Fights have as little to do with scoring goals as class does. Just because Datsyuk is a classy player and scores goals, doesn't mean that they are related. Probert led the Wings in scoring one year (tied with Klima).
-
I fear that this may not be the case... Lebda is so cheap, that letting him go doesn't really make a difference salary cap-wise... He said he would never fight again, but I guess Kopecky doesn't count. But Koko has a few tricks up his sleeve, like the patented FaceBlockâ„¢ (where he blocks heavy punches with his face) and IcePossumâ„¢ (where he falls over so much that he spends half of his shifts lying on the ice). What I'm looking forward to is seeing Kronwall dish out a big hig - Havlat is gone, so he'll need to find someone else... Oh, and you heard it here first - Detroit wins and shuts out Chicago, but Brian Campbell and Brent Seabrook combine for 5 assists.

Let's face it - at some point everyone here has used a ridiculous nickname for one of our players and/or prospects. I'm not saying that I think 'Fish Sticks' will stick (no pun intended), or that it should, but I'm bored and figured that I would make a list of all of our players and prospects, and nicknames that go with them (I'm not including all of the GR players or any of the depth signings we made), for the sake of those who hear someone being referred to with weird names, but don't know who. Also an opportunity to showcase totally absurd nicknames. Please contribute. Bertuzzi: Big Bert Cleary: Clears Datsyuk: Dats, Pasha Draper: Drapes Eaves: Ericsson: Big Rig Filppula: Flip Franzén: Mule, Franzenstein Helm: Hurricane Helm, Helmer, Nightmare on Helm Street, Helminator Holmström: Homer, Demolition Man Howard: Hungry Howie Kronwall: Kronner Lebda: Lebs Leino: Pug, Villain Lidström: Lidas, Norris Lilja: Pain Train Maltby: Malts Meech: Meecher Osgood: Ozzie Rafalski: Raffy Stuart: Stewie Williams: Willy Zetterberg: Z, Zäta, Hank Abdelkader: Darth Kader, Gator, Abdelkadabra Axelsson: Hat-Trick Callahan: (Even if we do nothing else, we at least need a good one for him - the hope of all LGWers, who clearly won't come near being a Wing for at a few years, not that that stops anyone from drooling over him...) McCollum: (Gollum?) Tatar: Fish Sticks

I think one could make the argument that there was much more of a story behind the Lemieux-McCarty incident, though I will admit that I don't know if anything went on between Roy and the other guy.
-
He could be a new Derek Meech-type player! Meecher is a part-time forward, part-time defenseman. Cloutier could be part time bench-warmer, part-time winger/enforcer.
-
You guys will get a kick out of this one - I had no idea that the puck had to be flat on the ice for it to be a goal! Being the fool I am, I just thought that it had to cross the line...
-
Hah. Are you a stupid dreamer? The Wings would never invite a guy like that to training camp...
-
Wasn't that to protect him from Patty S's flirty towel slaps?
-
Guess three times. And you can leave out maybe and yes.

How do you know it didn't happen? None of us saw the game, so if I was to say that Callahan beat up everyone on their team, and then intimidated the refs to the extent where they didn't penalise him, none of you could say for sure that I was lying
