I think that Chara will never be an effective enforcer. Firstly, he is one of his team's best players, so even if he wins, his team still loses in a sense. Also, he tends to use his wrestling background a lot.

You've got to love his stats from the 1995-1996 regular season playing for the IHL's Fort Wayne Komets: GP G A P PIM 74 10 11 21 590

The point I replied to said that there wasn't anything like that 15 years ago. 2010 - 15 is 1995. I can't really comment on whether people dove or not in the 70s and 80s as I wasn't born, but I suspect that those decades had their fair share of pests and divers (I mean, this was Sandström's prime!). It's easier to be a judge when you have HD replay. Fair point.

Probert Kocur Pushor Nyström Wilson Norton Brown (Spot the incorrect answers.) As for most entertaining, the answer is an obvious one, even though he was more of a Pest [on PCP] than an enforcer... Andy 'The Buzzsaw' Bezeau Nota bene - based on clips seen online.

I'm pretty sure that he will slow down. There is a difference between playing a season in the AHL, and then jumping into a NHL post-season, and playing a full NHL season followed by the playoffs. Look at Helm - he was nowhere near as effective as he was in the last two playoffs this year. Hmm... This guy seems to be alive: (watch the end of the video). And isn't there some other guy who stands behind the Phoenix bench who had a bit of a reputation for throwing foul hits? The list could go on and on. Cooke, Kaleta and Ott are not the first agitators the league has seen.

He was turning heads from day 1. Have a good one, P.-Datty.

I can think of one - his nice hit on Hiller after scoring on him

It's great to get an inside look at the Red Wings dressing room. Shanahan in particular is very funny. The 24-goals cracked me up, as well as comparing getting into the White House with getting past bouncers to get into a club. Hearing him talk about how Hull is only happy when complaining was good too. While both Lewis and Joseph aren't particularly popular on these boards, I thought that at least they were both articulate and came across well. I agree with the aforementioned comment of how strange it was seeing the Jaw and the Moustache behind another team's bench. P.S. How can you not love Holmström?

Cote is absolutely useless. He can't skate, play or win fights. With Shelley they have no need for him.

On an even weirder note, the first thing I thought of when I read the title was Orest Kindrachuk...

I bought a home-made DVD off of ebay that had a large amount of Probert and Kocur fights on it. Lost it, unfortunately...

I don't think that he will see that much PK time. Z and D didn't see much in the regular season last year, as Eaves-Helm and Maltby-Miller (and Filppula at times) were great. I'm hoping that Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzén and Cleary don't get too much regular season PK time. It's nice to see them fresher, and not having to block shots. Eaves-Helm will definitely play again this year. Miller may be traded, Maltby possibly won't be here, but that still leaves Filppula. Furthermore, hasn't Babcock said that Abdelkader will be getting PK time? (I'm assuming that Draper won't be getting any, and I don't know about Ritola).
-
Maltby has more to offer than experience. The 2009 finals showed he can still agitate, to an extent, and he was a fixture on the Red Wings PK until he got injured. I don't think that he should be handed a contract, but if he earns one, fair enough. I would rather have him than Draper at this stage (doesn't play centre or on the PK anymore...).

How wont the Wings be the favorites to win the west?
NGKEIB replied to wingsownnhl43's topic in General
Kronwall was taking that step before Laraque hit him. Also, bear in mind that the central is a much tougher division than, say, the NW... -
Holland said that a while ago, and McCosky is probably just giving his own opinion. The fact remains that Lilja has at least had some sort of offer, whereas Maltby hasn't. I'm sure that they will let Maltby test free agency, and if he hasn't signed by the end of the offseason, give him a contract but with the stipulation that he'll spend most of the season in GR.

Didn't Carcillo draw the most penalties in the league last year? I seem to recall Laviolette saying something along those lines. He could draw the penalties, and then our powerplay could enforce them
-
My understanding is that he can play for Detroit (so will most likely play in preaseason games; I believe he did last year too), just not for GR.
-
The fact that he already has a contract seems like a pretty good sign if he didn't need to sign one for another couple of years.
-
Someone will have to confirm this, but I think that they are still too young.
-
If he can't kill penalties, then why was Miller-Maltby one of our main penalty duos along with Helm-Eaves? While not strictly relevant, I personally feel that he has more to offer than Draper, so it is a shame that an overpaid Draper will stay, while a remotely useful Maltby will be most likely be forced to leave.
-
Sjöström is actually a great penalty killer. He and Betts were a great tandem in New York.
-
I guess that most Cleary-haters haven't read the articles which clearly state that his knee was in so much trouble that for most of this year he could hardly walk up the stairs. Give the guy a chance.
-
Trade Draper, keep Maltby.
