not much($925K I think) but it would give us all kinds of every other kind of relief
-
Cleary should have the decency to retire now and stop sucking it up all over the ice Brian Rafalski walked away from $6 million guaranteed because he knew he was done and didn't want to drag the team down I hope Cleary wakes up realizes what he needs to do besides, he'd be walking away from only $1.75 mil

I hate to think that Holland and Babs haven't done anything about the Cleary problem because they want to protect their own pride and egos against the mistake that was re-signing him, but at this point, what other explanation is there?
-
maybe the two of them have a season-long bet to see who can screw up the most
-
come on guys, don't let this one get away! pick it up!

I heard if you watch him for too long your heart will stop beating

It's been said that hockey is a young man's game, and if you look back at some of the great teams and Stanley Cup winners in years past most of the cores of those teams were young and/or in their prime(our '02 Cup winner notwithstanding). The Oilers dynasty in the '80s featured a bunch of young players and, today, with the Hawks being the closest thing to a dynasty, their Cup winning roster from last year boasted all of 1 player 35 or over(he was 35), and almost every one else was 30 or under. Players are developing faster than they used to and many other teams have successfully integrated these players and put together solid, speedy teams(some of which that have skated circles around us this year). So yeah, it boggles my mind that Holland thinks we still need a bunch of 35 and over players getting all the roster spots and ice time over younger, faster, hungrier players. I think his view of needing a vet-heavy roster is becoming antiquated and invalid, and if he doesn't come around to a new way of thinking, we're in for some looong seasons. How much longer does he think Pav and Z can carry the team for, anyway?

This is Babcock's 9th year coaching the Wings, and I think his style has absolutely worn out its welcome to the organization. It's not necessarily a good thing to keep the same coach for so long, even if he is a good one. Hell, even Bowman never stuck around longer than 9 years with any one of the 5 teams he coached. But of course he's an exception anyway since he's arguably the best coach of all time in any major sport, but I digress... A lot of the blame, like many are saying, falls on Holland. He is loyal to a fault and it has blinded him into making bad decisions, too many to list right now. A lot of people are saying trade the dead weight, but what GM in their right mind would be willing to acquire the likes of Cleary, Sammy, Quincey, etc.? I think we are stuck with pretty much all of them barring injury and yet I still have faint hope they'll figure out a way to get their act together(getting healthy would help), but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if we struggle mightily to make the playoffs this year, and could very well miss out. But that may be what it takes to actually make some positive changes. The next 20 or so games should really tell us if we've got a chance to make some noise this year
