I agree with you on some of those points, we are beating ourselves. We're fighting the puck out there and making the Ducks look better than they are. We need crisper passing out of the zone, too many brutal unforced plays in the neutral zone that slow us down and keep us disorganized. I think the biggest problem is we've reverted to how we played for much of the regular season, coasting for the first 40 min. and then expecting to make up for it the last 20, but they can't do it anymore. I do think Anaheim is taking advantage of the "it's a penalty in the reg season, but since it's the playoffs we'll let it slide" message the refs have sent in regards to the slight interference they run and all the cheap crap after the whistle, but you know what? the wings have to battle through it that is the bottom line, just like they'll have to suck it up after another call that bails the Ducks out again. If they play as they are capable, then they can certainly wear down this top-heavy team and if they can drive the freakin' net we can expose Hiller for the NOT amazing goalie he is. I feel like we hit rock bottom tonight in terms of both effort and luck, hopefully this apparent hex against the Wings is finally at an end b/c it just doesn't seem like the Ducks can get any MORE good fortune their way than they already have(at least I friggin' hope so) And as far as coaching goes, I wish Babs would put Hank and Z together at least a little bit, time is running out to get them going, I'd put them on the same PP unit at least, and maybe think real hard about putting Meech in for Cheli, and Leino in for Maltby, just to change things up a bit, b/c it doesn't seem like Raf or Draper are coming back unfortunately I seem to remember something McCarty said from the '97 championship DVD where he was talking about how the Wings used to rely on their talent to carry them until they realized that it's about not accepting it when someone's holding you back, trying to keep you down, you gotta fight through that- the Wings need to realize that again OK I'm done ranting now- GO WINGS!

good god I hate Adam Foote that bastard has a witch's nose, all he needs is the giant wart on the end

the Avs play-by-booth: where douchbaggery abounds and on a happier note, Lids needs 18 pts. in the last 18 games(counting tonite) to get to 1,000, and now after Flip's goal he needs 17

man I'm really starting to dislike the Blues again, this reminds me of our battles in the playoffs during the '90s as an aside, don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but Nashville has given up 5 to Edmonton at home with Rinne in net, though it is tied

a lot of you guys seem to have already made up your minds, but for me the jury's still out on Howard- no he didn't play great tonight, but the Wings D left him out to dry several times I'd like to see the guy get 2 or 3 more starts and then decide

exactly what I was thinking, Rafalski's got a weird knack for that this year it seems

3 days off to prepare for the Sharks, hope we do better against them than we are against the Wild tonight
-
yeah I blame him for helping usher in the dead puck era, oh and Bettman too for over expanding the league and forcing coaches to use the trap
-
yeah my center ice feed is out, too and the game was going so well.....

I may have spoken too soon

you know for as sloppy as we've been it's still a close game, even when we don't bring our "A" game we can at least keep it close, I think we've only been blown out a couple times this year, to Phx last month and to Boston earlier in the season(I consider a blow out losing by 3 or more goals) and heck we could still pull this one out, gotta step it up though oh crap we just got scored on

well, I THINK I'm right, might want to double check here's some more- it breaks down to(11-5-2 overall) 5-3-2 in away-away games and 6-2-0 in home-away games so far
-
ok just did a little research- we play back-to-back 16 times this year, 8 times home-away and 8 times away-away; not counting tonight we have 6 back-to-backs left, 3 of each format not counting last night's game, we are 11-5-2 in back-to-backs so far this year SCORE!!!

tonight's loss to me was a result of a few factors that worked against us: 4 regulars out, playing 5 games in 7 days, Jackets hadn't played since Tue(which was also a home game), we were very sloppy for much of the game, bad passing, questionable calls(to me the BJs second goal was a result of Fritsche bumping Osgood slightly out of position so he could not get set for the next shot), and just general lack of focus and urgency but hey, we had just won 6 in a row, can't win 'em all and it may be small consolation, but with all those things going against us, the Jackets were only able to squeak past us can't wait for revenge Mar. 7 at the Joe

Todd Gill I usually forget about, a few others too but they've already been mentioned I for one will never forget the meltdown that was the '99 playoffs, I think freakin' Dale Hunter beat Ranford with a shot ALONG THE ICE from THE BOARDS... still disgusts me to this day, but we got sweet revenge in '02, plus even though the Avs beat us that year and the year following, they did not reach the Cup finals either time, got ousted both times by the Stars, I believe

That makes 33 out of 49 games now that we've allowed 3 or more goals, and are now 15-11-7 in those games, which certainly could be worse, but playing over 2/3 of our games giving up that many goals that often is a disturbing trend. At least there is still time to right the ship, and things would be better with Stuart and Z around, plus we got a good look at Leino and Abdelkader. What a goal by Leino!!!

First of all I'd just like to say I'm a long-time lurker, first-time poster, so hello to all. As far as slumping goes, yeah, we are definitely there, and although some of it is due to injuries and BS suspensions, we have not been playing with much sustained passion. Also only playing 4 home games out of 13 total this month probably isn't helping, either. But what is more disturbing overall is this: through 48 games played, the Wings have allowed 3 or more goals 32 times! That's 2/3 of the games we've played so far, although we have managed to go 15-10-7 in those games. But if this trend continues, it will catch up with us. Hope we right the ship soon.
