Conklin to start Thursday; Rafalski out again

There's 3 or 4 in cahoots, I don't even acknowledge them at this point. However more important are your comments which are bang on ,we need the team to have a sense that their netminder can at times pick up the slack and not falter when the D is having a breakdown. I hope Conklin can string a run that picks the team up and he leads us into the playoffs. If not well I'll be looking forward to chewing some fat with the "blowers".

The road to success is always under construction.

I don't know maybe it was Cujo. Bottom line coaching and management are to blame for our goaltending predicament. If we were second stringers like Osgood and Conklin and late in their careers who could blame them for finding a home here. Everywhere else they be back- ups period.

Oh lord what did you say "goaltending on the cheap in Detroit" courtesy of Ken Holland.

You reap what you sow with "goaltending on the cheap in Detroit" a tried and true Ken Holland policy.

Why you put out the effort to reason with certain individuals on this board who have been trumpeting the same justifications for months now speaks to the level of your patience. I maintained all along that the weak goaltending that we have been saddled with all season would come back to bite us because of all the catch-up hockey we had to play on too many night, even against weaker opponents ; would eventually wear the team down emotionally and physically. That where our defense is now, and our offense now is not able to score their way through over the hurdles of weak goals.Unless something drastically changes with the goaltending which I doubt we are fated for an early exit in the playoffs

Ya your right but its all to late now, our options between the pipes were determined by Ken Holland policy of " goaltending on the cheap in Detroit". So you know that makes me let Osgood off the hook and Conklin for the mediocre results that we are now faced with going into the playoffs. Its not to inspiring when you here coach Babcock comment as he did last week about a loss we took to Calgary when he yanked Osgood. First he said no one player can take the blame ,that was to take the heat of Osgood. Then he went on to say " we don't need Chris to be a star out there we just need him to play regular". Didn't sit to well with me that approach. I think he needed to call him out , something to the tune of were the Cup champs and we need our goaltending to reflect that, and at this moment were not getting that out our goaltending. So don't blame Osgood, blame Holland first who a few months back coddled Osgood by saying he'll come around work out of his funk, and Babcock whose comments to me amount to the same type of clueless crap.

That's right a lot of them don't know their ass from their elbow about hockey. But the whole boring debate about our goaltending has gone on far to long , as pathetic as it is. Can't wait until the regular season is over.

Nothings guaranteed these cellar dwellers beat the Devils 7-3 / 2 weeks ago punished the Canadiens and other teams. They have goaltending and a lot young upstarts, we can't take them for granted especially if our goaltending falters. Maybe 4-3 Wings.

    Goalie for next year?

Yes to the pasture its long overdue. But your word fall on deaf ears to the faithful, but sooner than late they'll get it.

    Goalie for next year?

Sorry don't take offense but your observations show how nauseating the whole goalie debate in Detriot has become. Bottom line we have crappy goaltending and the likelyhood of getting the Cup again with such goaltending , well the odds don't look good at all. As far as the justification you allude too what I'll keep referring to on this board ad nauseum until it changes " goaltending on the cheap in Detroit", now an institution since were all about high priced finesse is a weak justification for having such feeble goaltending. However you tell us how thankful we should be for having the likes of Osgood and Conklin at such reasonnable rates; oh were so fortunate thanks for the insight!

    Goalie for next year?

Top tier or not at this point with the feeble goaltending we have had all season whatever comes our way next year will be a vast improvement any way you cut it. Hell Martin Gerber on waivers would be better than what we now have now. But it is what it is Holland's call . By the way the Canadiens back-up Halak with our team he'd number one starter and he's up for grabs in the off season ; and he's tired of playing second fiddle to Price in Mtl.

Who cares who is worst looking the whole goaltending situation in Detroit has become a joke. A team this talented to have such inept response beteen the pipes is ridiculous ; but so be it.

Whether the whole team had an off night or not that's debatable. One thing is not , we will be heading into the playoffs with mediocre goaltending which has been the case all year. My expectations are zilch that way my blood pressure stays down. Imagine the starter for the playoffs remains up in the air. Don't hold your breath!

That it for me 3 crappy soft goals , and I hate Calgary. Oh well good night everyone.

If Osgood can remain focussed and the defense as well, the offense will take care of the rest as the Flyers tend to take a lot bad penalties that goes hand and hand with their less than stellar defense. Our power play should sink them 6 to 2 , Hossa nets hat trick. Go get em Wings!

Satisfying game to watch, kudos to Osgood for coming up big when the pressure was on. We need more outings like this heading into the playoffs.

All in all a well played period good on the PK and Osgood has been solid; and Pavel what can we say he's the best.

    Gary Roberts Retires

I remember it like yestereday when a young Gary Robert and the Flames defeated the Canadians for the Cup. He was a tough and courageous player who had a near career ending injury and bounced back. Too bad he never was a Wing he always looked good in red. Thanks for some inspired hockey.
