I'm growing weary of Osgood he is not the team never was=the team needs someone to steal a game from time to time,if you don't have that then by hook or croook go get it trade trade trade. Its simple once you get away from this myth of the loyalty concept.

There was more than a momentary lapse of reason going on with management and the goaltending situation. But I've held the view all along their were trying to do goaltending on the cheap so they could sign the big names which their still doing. But hey now doubt has really set in about Osgood; finally better late than never. A few posts back I said they should of brought up their goaltending prospects earlier. Now they are weeks before the deadline, if it doesn't pan out moves are in the works as they should be . Holland knows the writtings on the wall if we get bounced in the first round because he neglected our weakest link goaltending; come on its obvious!

Hey your right I love a no holds barred with Far from Shore. But if 2 San Jose fans show up I'm sure will kick theis asses together; HAHhAHAHAHAHAHAA

Listen the loyalty system is a myth in Detroit,,one the greatest goaltenders in Detroit history, or hockey history was shipped out of this town after winning succesive Cups. His name Sawchuk dumped to last place Boston Bruins in those days. And Sawchuk would have given his left arm for this organization. Players were mere props they even had to pay their own moving exspenses. Todays stars compared to that era are treated like Queens in the buisness of hockey. With Salary caps free agency there is a modicum of loyaty that exists nowadays. So be it trade trade trade the assets that can, yield new possibilties for the Cup, resting on past laurels get you to crying in your beer. Hey Im happy Stevie Y will be a Wing forever and ever; like Lindstom to follow; but they are the exceptions not everyone can occupy that symbolic role in an organization. That's why they are held in esteem to inspire future talent. Look to the terrible times of the seveties in Detroit the team seeemed to be gutted every second month.Remember this was the organization that broke up the Howe Delvecchio Mahovlich the number 3 top scoring line in the league. History does have its uses for the future. Holmstrom, Franzen anybody?

I agree with that on the surface he does not appear to have great trade value, but that all depend on the team who is are aguiring him. Maltby has the Rings of experience to show;and for a young team going in the playoff he can ba a motivator as well as a good defensive forward. Look at Stepan Yelle in Boston that's the role he's playing. Loyaly I'm all for it , but some of these guys have to be turned over before their value completely dwindles. Plus many of the veterans have experienced more Cups than most players will ever have even if they had 3 hockey life times. Look at Raymond Bourque's career. To put it simply we have guality players that can be moved as we add personell like Hossa and young talent like Leino. And we should get full value for them while we can heading into the playoffs. Holmstrom anybody?

I knew you didn't really want me off the board afterall ! But jokes aside key in on Holland's words " really looking outside"; that does not mean that he has not made inquiries about availability of goaltenders around the league , he would be an inept manager if he didn't which he's not. Yes I will go along with the thrust of the idea that he is first looking within ,which correlates to this move to bring up Howard, but if Howard doesn't cut - then as the deadline looms moves can be made. And that's what you would exspect from management if a weak link remains in the team. Rememember despite our differences of opinion we are all one and one for all with the Wings!
-
I don't seei him shipped at the deadline with his numbers and the team he's on who would take him; unless as a back up maybe in Calgary? I dunno but if I look at Howard coming up finally just a couple of weeks before the deadline, Maltby out for Leino something's brewing. We could be looking at a multiple player deal that nets us a goaltender to play next to Conklin if Howard doesn't make a splash. Its about time things get stirred around.
-
I suspect Maltby is gone by the deadline, who knows maybe there's a package being put together to acquire a goaltender?
-
Your bang on totally, its about time that they bring up one of them. There's a lot of us on this board that have been clamoring about Osgood's lousy goaltending. It's clear that Holland has got the message loud and clear. I suspect that this move a few weeks from the deadline signals that they have been shopping around for a goalie. If Howard doesn't show that he has the right stuff to back up Conklin, then its very possible were gonna have a transaction for someone who can. All in all this a positive sign that something gotta give. It should have been done sooner, but better late then never. Give it your best shot Howard!
-
Yes I have trashed the mediocre Osgood from the get go on this board precisely because I love the Wings and as a team they deserve a better goalie, one by the way who can handle the puck ; something that Osgood never could get handle on . I've been a Wings fan forever I seen the low of lows and the high of highs- right Far from shore " there ain't no mountain higher". I just want another Cup and Osgood has become a major obstacle to that possibly taking place. What you don't grasp is evident in your petty banter along with your quite apparent lack of hockey sense. Roy Edwards look him up, one of the best Wings goalies we ever had in a mediocre team- the reverse of the situation of what we have today. You' ll get it eventually; Im confident of that.

If only your prediction would come through; believe me from there on in I'd refer to you as the astute one! Hey we have plenty of trading goods. I think highly of Holmstom for what he has done for the team over the years. But he is getting on so better to move him now to Minnnesota or any team in need of a veteran like him; look at Florida. If Hossa is going to stay around , I'm willing to part with Homer or even Franzen ,or both in a big deal.I believe like you they shouldn't be tying up too much long term money on the cap. Lots young talent coming up along with off season possibilities.

I know the truth hurts sometimes.

Come on man wake up look the low shot totals, Imagine what he'd look like i n Colorado or Calgary on regular 30plus shot nights. He'd be yanked every night. Hey don't Calgary need a back-up for the Kipper?
-
Here Far from Shore this guy understands hockey on its most rudimentary levels. Persistance my boy you'll grasp it one day, I'm sure you will.
-
Maybe you can help me with the quote function while I help you understand the game of hockey which includes goaltending.
-
Here quote me Osbad sucks...
-
Dreamer your nothing but a dreamer, but can you put your hands in your head oh no...
-
I'm sure you would find that many Wing fans were never on any bandwagon with Osgood ever, even with the Cups. But now with his goaltending abilities reallly deteroiating he's now doubly hard to stomach. But at least he's got people like you in his corner!
-
Ya your probably right, but there's a thin slice of a chance with all those voodoo hexes I'm presently conjuring. But seriously what a pathetic situation if nothing happens with this the most vulnerable part of our game. By the way I like Conklin, however I wish he had someone competent beside him.
-
Its unbelievable that a lot them still thihk we have a chance to repeat with Osbeen. At least it good for laughs.

Let tell you last year was a cake walk its not going to be this year. With things as they stand it wiil be a a first round exit. Hope I'm wrong, cuz with this goaltending all you got his hope.
-
Come on man give our defense a break, answer me how many 30 plus shot games have these clowns in nets had to face. I venture to say not many. Just go over the shot totals, its a joke that Osgood is as bad as he is with so little to face , 22 , 24 , 25 , 28. He's piss poor; the defense is more then competent. Look at Kippersoff in Calgary believe he earns his money every night. Not like this clown with a couple of rings.
-
Hey guy, can you explain to me what is it that these people don't get when it comes to our mediocre goaltending. Is it oh we have great players all around so we can skimp here cuz in the end it will all work out?
-
We will see come playoff time. I think this stategy of cheap competent goaltending has had its run , barring a miracle from Conklin of course.
