Your a real optimist , but do me a favour go back and read my post this not about can Osgoog do it again or not . Sorry its about doing goaltending on the cheap in Detroit. And ya what about our so-called homegrown talent in the nets where's Howards's chance. Don't you think he shold have been called up by now. Look what Burke is doing with Pogge in Toronto . Its called letting your goaltender get his ears wet in the big league - how come its not happening here with our young talent. That would perhaps do more for Osgood then Holland's half baked sentimental dribble ' Ozzie can make it back he's done it before. You don't fool me for second Holland the way you hand out those fat long term contracts. Time to sell more Pizza I guess?

That's Holland all the way- that's it buddy, Osgood he's got to come around cuz don't you know in Detroit its all about Goaltending on the cheap like its been for years so we can keep doling out fat longterm contracts for todays high profile forwards. Imagine Zetterberg 12yrs ; Datsuk 9yrs.. What's next Hossa 7yrs.; Franzen 8yrs. That's why he's hoping his little battler Osgood comes around. For sure you couldn't trade him , who want him ? Its become apparent that Detroit is far from being the goaltender hub it once was. Anyone out there ever watch Roy Edwards play when the Wings were middle of the pack contender? Let me tell you he stole more than a few low scoring games from the Montreal Canadians in the their glory days. The last Wings goalie with grit was Mike Vernon and he had skill to match. Ya he really was really shafted for his great efforts that delivered a Cup for us against the Avalanche which was a real war. Not like the cake walk we had against the Pens last year; even though Osgood almost made it closer than it was. Remember how shaky he was in the last two games. And that fumble bumble he did in the dying seconds of the final game where the Pens almost tied it with second left. No I'll take Holland at his word about no goaltending changes. But this year its not going to be the cake walk it was last year, its going to be a grind through and through. Of course that's even with we get through the first round condidering the number of goals this team now gives up per game. Now if we got Jay Bowmeester the equation would change. But the likelyhood of that happening ; well you know its like us retaining the Cup with what we presently have in Nets - fat chance.

I agree with your assesment of Ericson. As fas as Toskala he'd definitely prosper here due to the overall quality of the team compared to Toronto, however I wouldn't give up a defensemen prospect as Ericson. However I still think we need an ace in the hole backing Conklin, and if were not going to give Howard a chance to come up- which he should have by now; well we shouldn't sit on our hands waiting for Osgood to maybe turn around. Bottom line let's get someone adequate to platoon with Conklin , Toskala or who ever is available. We do have some players that we could move in trade.

I was wathching the Holland interview on Tsn's trade watch segment 2009 last night. Briefly the moderator alluded how Holland has always managed to bring in that last piece of the puzzle come playoff time. Holland's view was good defence is what championship teams are all about, in hockey or any sport for that matter he stated. He used the Brad Stuart example for last year's cup run, and the Jaime Mcoun aquisition at the deadline years back that also helped the Wings secure the Cup. He stated that playoff hockey is all about being able to win those key low scoring games. Well Mr. Holland if that's the case you better secure your self a starting goaltender that can stop an average of 25 shots a game(that's what net minders get in Detroit; because what you have right now is goaltending that allows on average 3 to 4 and sometimes atrociously more goals per game despite low shot totals. Prime example, Osgood's performance last night against the Coyotes - mediocre goaltending which has been Detrot's achilles heel all year. So Mr Holland make no mistake about it to keep the Cup it will be all centered on you getting us a goaltender who can assure us more often than not that in 20 something shot games he can shut the door and give our D the breathing room they need to go all the way.

Its so obvious that you are the enlightened one amongst our ilk. Come playoff time watch that high horse your on its long way down before the ilk breaks your fall oh mocking one!
-
Talking about living in denial. The next 30 games will yield the same mediocre performance that he's been demonstrating all year. Too bad the deadline will be long gone by then.

I don't know about that, when was the last time we really had a starter of real substance. I guess you could argue Hasek the first time around. I would probably say it was Mike Vernon; who by the way was never rewarded for his great grit that helped us get a Cup. No management prefered to give fat cat contracts to players like Federov instead , that we even had to bribe him to get him off his ass to perform come playoff time. No I'm not dreaming of greener pastures in Detroit. Vernon never got the contract he deserved; because management had candidate Osgood in the wings which was the cheaper alternative at the time ;while simutaneosly Detroit became a cash cow for aging stars looking for that last final cushion before retirement. No I have no illusions of getting a high calibre goalie here in a block buster trade. All I'm hoping is someone competent alonside Conklin who I respect for his tenacity-- just give me a Roloson who gets 30 shots or more on a regular basis . Ya he'd do well in Detroit where shot totals are relatvely low. Bottom line if you want this team to keep the Cup we need another goalie Osgood no longer cuts it; just like Hasek no longer did.

Listen genius Detroit can't base a dynasty on crappy goaltending. Does SAWCHUK ring a bell boyeeeeee.
-
Lang may not have been a bad guy in the Wings jersey , but he was a real wuss in the 2007 playoff finals against the Ducks when Holmstrom went down. Now that he's out , its time to make a trade with Mtl for goaltender Halak , they need offence we need a goaltender to platoon with Conklin; if not were deAD in the water come playoff time with Osgood .
-
Listen your bang on in many respects. Dump Osgood how soon is now. Conklin you can't make him #1 they tried too and though I do like him as a battler- he's hasn't come up consistently enough. What are the options? Well trade to get a solid guy to platoon him with; such as a Roloson or Halak in Mtl - the latter is starter material given the chance ;and he's abattler like Conklin. Second option go for the gold and trade for top goaltender. Personally platooning Conklin is my preference. I look to what Boston has done with Manny Fernandez and Thomas - they got something going. Anyhow if management thinks that the playoffs with Osgood is an option then things really do stink in Denmark.

Listen man I love to chill out but with the pathetic goaltending sorry chillings not an option. Look how bad the save percentages are were at the bottom of the barrel. If you think it wasn't an omen or premonition of things when in the dying seconds of our Cup victory against Pittsbugh Osgood almost bumbled and fumled the puck into the net- think again. Its all about doing it on the cheap with goaltending in Detroit; while meanwhle we open the purse strings for the offensive stars. But you see that's starting to catch-up to the Wings, cuz you always have to come back from 2-3 and sometime 4 goal deficits. Well you know what that does It ends up draining and demoralizing the team . Just imagine this team with a top line goaltender -oh ya bud I'll be chillin all summer long with my Wings cap on with a nice cold one!
-
I couldn't agree more with your analysis. But the key factor has been the horrible goaltending, particularly Osgood. Detroit have been playing catc h-up hockey all season long, coming back from 2 3 and even 4 goal deficits. What that ends up doing is destroying your core game plan. Confidence wise your down because you don't have a goalie who can steal a game once an awhile for you when you have an off night. Its been a long time since that has happenned in Detroit, perhaps not since Roy Edwards a former great Wings goaler who had a mediocre team at times playing in front of him. Its time Holland and Yszerman wake- up and get goalie that's worthy of this Stanley Cup champion team. There' plenty of solid goalies around the league available for trade
-
Whether its true or not the Wings going nowhere fast in the playoffs if they have to put their fate in Osgood again. Conklin's alright if you had someone solid to platoon him with; look at the Bruins one two with Thomas and Fernandez. But let's face its time the Red Wings stop trying to do it on the cheap when it comes to goaltending. Time to trade shake up things. Halak the back-up in Mtl is starter material given the chance- look at his record next to Crey Price, not too shabby at all. Plus Lang injured the Canadiens having all sorts of problems i.e Kovalev- there's definitely a trade that could be made to benifit both teams.
