Hey, at least they're actually playing the Red Wings when they're chanting it.
-
Eh? Eh? That was nice, wasn't it? He looked about twice as fast as everyone else on the ice there. The Slovenian Speedster.
-
I wrote nothing but good things about him when I wrote for HF. Don't make me look bad Jan Just kidding, good luck man. I expect good things
-
It just sucks that this team's adversity consists of losing its leading playmaker and then its leading goal-scorer. *sigh*
-
Oddly enough, it was his defensive play that impressed me a few times tonight. He played a couple situations very well positionally, and I even recall one play where he did his best Lids impression and knocked the puck off with his "active stick" (Damn you Pierre McGuire).

Must not correct... spelling and grammar issues... there, their & they're... your & you're... I before E, except after... HNGH *heart attack*

Fixed Edit: And before anyone suggests this was in bad taste, I have a theory that having one ******** actually makes a man stronger/more powerful... Lance Armstrong, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Adolf Hitler and Napoleon Bonaparte. Yeah, that's legit man. They're still working on balancing the good vs. evil thing, though. Phil Kessel was on his way to this list too, but he slipped on a waffle somewhere along the way.

I'm having a really hard time being happy about this, but Mursak is by far my favorite Red Wings prospect. I'm sure once I see him on the ice I'll be a lot more thrilled.
-
I really wish this was a joke. Brad Stuart... that's it. You're off my team on NHL 11, you jerk.
-
Apparently Brad Stuart got jealous and decided to be more of a threat to Dan's play than Bert.
-
If Danny boy is injured, I'm trading Stuart on NHL 11. That's about as threatening as I can get...

I could totally get behind this idea, actually. I'm not fixated on using stars, I just feel like there's nothing wrong with using them, but this idea makes a lot of sense and adds some more logic to the game. Teams are, on some level, responsible for the marketing and exposure of their own team. I've got no issue with disliking teams or players, especially when we've been in a heated number of games against them. My problem with it right now is that a lot of people have been complaining about Chicago fans having a preoccupation with Detroit ("Detroit sucks"), but it goes both ways. People really get after Crosby to the point where they're going overboard, in my opinion. Like I said in a previous post, if people are going to call the Winter Classic a useless attraction then who cares who plays in it? It seems to me like people want to complain about Chicago fans bitching about being obsessed, then turn around and obsess about Crosby. I also don't understand why people on here keep exhibiting an elitist attitude (not you, specifically). We've got very good fans, but we've also got some very bad ones. Who cares if Crosby is a whiny ***** off the ice? It used to really bother me, but not everyone in the league is going to be a class act and humble. Ovechkin can be a huge tool off the ice, but I really like his style of play. Detroit has had a laundry list of guys with some serious off-ice issues, but we tend to overlook them because they were Red Wings. Overall, are the players on our team better at conducting themselves in a professional manner? Absolutely, but who are we to decide how whiny/not whiny players should be? I remember when half our team would go to talk to the officials just to try to get a call our way. Some of those fabulous Russian Five milked a call or two in their time, and there were a few occasions when even Stevie Y himself lost his cool. Perhaps if Crosby was surrounded by our management, he would become a much better person, but when it comes down to it it's all speculation. None of us (I assume) have to deal with the fame or pressure that guys like Crosby, Ovie or Stamkos do, so who are we to criticize their conduct? I'm aware this is a message board and everyone is entitled to their opinion, and my opinion is that by complaining about Chicago fans and then exhibiting similar behavior is pretty hypocritical. It just seems to me like we're grasping at straws here. It's one game, once a year... and it's a public attraction. Hopefully in time the league as a whole does a BETTER job of marketing more stars, that way the game can grow more evenly.

Riley Sheahan > Casey Cizikas... Yes, I am still disappointed about that.
-
For once, we're on the same page. I mentioned this in another thread earlier. 3 goals in 4 games apparently isn't enough to earn Eaves time on the 3rd line.

Just so you know E, I wrote a good number of papers in university from a feminist perspective. I would like to be granted immunity from the ensuing firestorm, if you don't mind. *Sits back and watches the fireworks*

Some announcers are just painful to listen to... *Backstrom pushes out Holmstrom's right leg with his goalie stick* "And clearly, you can see Holmstrom falling backwards right on Backstrom. Oh my, someone could get hurt."

As Tommy pointed out, every team has ignorant fans. I've had discussions with numerous Detroit fans who have said the following: -"They need to just let Yzerman be the GM. It's time to fire Holland." -"I don't care, Osgood should keep starting, no matter what." (During the 2008-09 season when battling Conklin for starts) -"Oh man, LiNdstrom is my favorite." -"I wish they didn't play so boring. They always just have the puck." No matter where you look, teams are going to have bad fans. Success breeds new, ignorant fans. All of us at one time began to follow a team, and we didn't exactly know everything either. If you look at any other sport in world, the leagues market their stars. Is there a line the league can cross when they turn their backs on their core fan base? Absolutely, but I don't think this is it. People have constantly argued that the Winter Classic is just a spectacle; a game that shouldn't be worth 2 points because it's just a marketing scheme. Some of those same people then argue for the sanctity of the event, citing that it's being bastardized. When it comes down to it I think it's one game a year, and if they NHL can attract some attention to it, some of the best players should be on display.

Nice on the team to let Rusty spend some more time with his wife. They treated Stuart in a similar fashion when he first came over, and his wife was also pregnant. Little moves like that show players in the league the way Wings management treats its team. Only thing I take issue with is Miller on the 3rd line instead of Eaves. Unless I'm mistaken, Patty's had 3 goals in his past 4 games, showing flashes of that offense he once possessed. Going to have to be a solid team effort tonight.

And this is the bottom ******* line. Too many people are butt-hurt because Pittsburgh is playing again. As much as we're all complained about Chicago's preoccupation with our team, let's think about this for a second guys... I'm all for the sport growing... if there are some bangwagon fans jumping on in the process, I guess that's a trade-off for hockey's growth. Fact is, since Ovie and Sid jumped into the league, the sport has gotten more popular. I'm down with it, because I'm 100% content with watching Detroit play their game all the while.

I was born in June of 86, so I'll take some credit for the turnaround

The best part about that video is Draper wearing a "Zetterberg" hoodie, especially after Zetterberg just called him his nemesis for Festivus, lol. EDIT: Oh, and don't trade Flip. He might not be honoring his 3 million dollar contract the way some of us would like, but he's still a very good 2-way center with offensive upside.
-
Meyer can sure hit for a smaller guy. He's a good depth defenseman, and if Atlanta's defense wasn't working out so well I'm sure he'd play more. As much as I like Lucic, I HATE when brawls happen after a clean hit. It's one of the changes to the game that I really dislike.
-
IF someone is called up, it should be Filppula. With Draper being rotated into the line-up too, I think it'd have less of an impact on a more mature player to be rotated in and out of the line-up. It could hurt a guy like Emmerton (mentally to add to the knee) or Mursak to be rotated in and out, not getting consistent minutes in either league, but I think maybe Filppula could handle it better. It'll also give him a chance to hang out and maybe even play with his brother, so he'd be a little more motivated that way, I think. Not that I don't think Filppula's less important than Emmerton or Mursak, but I think they both have higher ceilings and are still in the midst of growing as players. I see no reason at all not to call up Ilari, even with that last spot being rotated. This would be a good chance to show what he can do at the NHL level, because at 29 years old, he's not going to get any younger.

Hank, you slow piece of crap... you only got 3 points tonight In all seriousness though, what a good close game. I enjoyed most of it. It's pretty annoying how Cleary and Holmstrom got repeatedly mugged, though. Also, I think karma bit Ehrhoff in the butt for his embellishment on the high stick earlier in the game. It's all good juju baby.
