Waiting for Modano to sign... every... single... day...
-
I've always been a big fan of Zetterberg... not that my username gives it away or anything I think he's almost virtually a lock for the "C" once Lidstrom retires. With Pavel showing signs that he will return to Russia, and Zetterberg being locked into his contract, I don't think there's another choice. Just curious too, I wonder who will get the other "A" once Draper is gone as well. I have a feeling that maybe Rafalski and Kronwall will rotate an "A", with Pavs hanging onto the primary "A". There are just so many good players and character players on the team it's difficult to choose.

I'm confused. Is his wife going by Willa Ford or Mandy Modano these days?
-
I wouldn't call myself a pro-Modano slappy. I do want him here, because I think he'll bolster our 3rd line. That being said I would be furious if it's at the expense of Helm. Same with Abdelkader as well, as I think that at very least he's going to be a very solid PK for years to come. I'm fine with losing Miller or Ritola, though.
-
I'm sure it's just about ironing out things for longer term deals. There's no way that Detroit loses two guys who are going to be staples on the PK in the coming years. I can see each guy getting around 900K or so for 3-4 year deals maybe. At least I hope so. That being said, if Modano comes here, someone will have to go to get that 500K in extra space that Holland wants for injury call-ups.
-
Ok... even if that is the case... Like I said, I'd like Modano, but I think San Jose offers more financially and for his wife. The whole "hometown" thing is a nice storyline, but who knows if that's the more important incentive.
-
Even with the little stats omission aside, he could very well impress the team out of camp. I think one reason they wouldn't let him join up with the team yet is because of the way he began to slide near the end of last season. I think the wear and tear caught up with him. He was really impressive at the beginning of the year, though, so I just think he needs to improve his conditioning a bit.
-
I'd like Modano here too, but I think San Jose could definitely offer him a good deal more. They have 9 forwards signed, 7 defensemen and 2 goalies with 6.1 million left. Even if those other 3 players cost 1 million a piece that still leaves 3.1 for Modano alone. If Detroit's only offering him 800-900K, and he can be the 3rd line center on each team... Couple that with the fact that his wife apparently likes the West Coast. I just think San Jose might have the upper hand here, but there's always the chance that Mike wants to come "home" and maybe thinks Detroit has the better shot at a cup. I guess we'll see.

I'm pretty sure the Wild are just scared of losing another superstar. Losing Gaborik was a big hit to them. It's a lot like the Sabres and Vanek after Drury and Briere left. I know Vanek got an offer sheet, but same idea.
-
I'm assuming you're referring to Evgeny Ryasenky? I didn't know they officially signed him, just that there were rumors that they made him an offer. He's not listed on capgeek. Can anyone clarify this?
-
Well they already have something like 15 forwards signed and 2.3 left. If anyone snatches Modano I would think it would be San Jose. They have 9 forwards, 7 defensemen and 2 goalies signed and have 6.1 to play with still.

Looking at the title I thought this was a thread suggesting that the Red Wings trade for Cal Clutterbuck.
-
This would go along way in Ericsson getting some slack from fans, and perhaps a little more confidence for himself. He's about 6'4, 220lbs. Clear the net man, you're a beast!
-
I think it's worth a shot to try... worst case scenario the team just rotates Meech or Janik in. These guys have to learn at some point. I wouldn't mind the lines being: Lidstrom-Ericsson Kronwall-Rafalski Kindl-Stuart There doesn't really have to be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd unit... a lot of teams balance their pairings out a little more evenly.
-
Couldn't have said this part better myself. He's a guy who can do everything.
-
I figured it was the wrong link, but I thoroughly enjoyed Jiri Fischer chirping the prospects. And his potential passing wind at the very end of the video once the bench clears out, lol. EDIT: Oh yeah... umm... boo to Maltby.
-
I agree with the idea behind this, but I think Detroit likes the upside of Kindl and Ericsson too much to move them out. When Lidstrom is gone they're going to have to fill the void somehow and Derek Meech isn't the answer. If Lidstrom had a good 4-5 years left in him, no problem, but Kindl had/has high-end offensive skills on the blueline. Before Ericsson lost his confidence he showed some skill with the puck too. I'm not saying either guy can replace Lidstrom, as I think Smith will be the closest thing we have in the system, but I also don't think the Red Wings are willing to give up on either player just yet. EDIT: If they don't sign any UFA's at all, then I wouldn't be 100% opposed to using Ericsson and Kindl in the Top 6, and switching Meech in sometimes too. The kids have to learn sometime.

Plus, he'll bring Hillary Duff. If I'm not mistaken Begin has played some left wing and Bitz has played some right wing. Brian Boyle is also locked up with the Rags for one more year, then he's an RFA.

Here's a little article on Ferraro... http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2010/07/red_wings_prospect_landon_ferr.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+detroit-redwings+%28Detroit+Red+Wings+-+MLive.com%29

I actually just stumbled on a video where Holland says that this prospects camp is more for information to the players... what they need to work on etc. He mentions that they're going to be invited back for Traverse City and that's when they'll really evaluate them. http://redwings.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?catid=884&id=73843 It's the 2nd video after the Jiri Fischer mic'd up one.
-
If it helps any, when guys like Lashoff and Raedeke impressed the Red Wings 2 years ago they got their contracts after Traverse City... sometimes in late Sept-early Oct. I don't know if the same situation applies here, but it's a guess.
-
That was a really cool video. I love seeing anything regarding prospects.
-
Let's stop and think for a minute here. Wings reportedly offer Modano and contract, 3-4 teams jump in too. Wings reportedly offer Maltby a contract... huh? huh? Yeah. Holland's basically cheating here. It's like when a guy sets his g/f up with another guy so he can dump her without feeling guilty. Kirk Maltby is being dumped. /end crazy, hopeful theory.
-
Yeah, what kind of jerk injures someone during a prospects camp? *cough* Nick Oslund *cough*
-
This is not cool. A friend of mine is a Canucks fan and he predicted that Modano wouldn't make a decision until sometime in August. He cannot be right. I cannot take the gloating, lol.
