This would be correct. The Red Wings signed Quincey to a 2 year deal worth 525K per for the 2008-2009 season. I really feel like the 14th roster spot is going to boil down to a battle between Abdelkader, Miller and Ritola. If Miller and Ritola both outperform Abdelkader I could see him being sent down to GR again, but if he's close enough with the other two, I would have to think they will be traded or waived. If I'm not mistaken I just read that Helm and Abdelkader's contracts will be inked later in the summer, as the team is looking to lock them up for a little longer. I really feel like Ritola's future as a Red Wing is in the most jeopardy, though. Also, sorry for the double post. I didn't notice this post when I replied to the other. No one say, "there's a turd in the punch bowl".

Hey, no hard feelings man. I was more trying to talk against the claim that Eaves didn't outperform Miller in any aspect of play. I've got no issues with Miller at all, in fact I like him as a player. I just feel if I could only sign one of Eaves or Miller it would have to be Patty. I left PP goals and GW goals out because I was trying to focus more on the defensive aspects that a 4th liner is expected to possess. I wasn't trying to skew the stats, as it were. Sorry for any confusion.

Based on what next season will bring I'd say this should suffice

NHL contracts are the best way to show someone you care. It is like this tangible thing that you can point to and say, "Hey man, I love you this many dollars worth." /Michael Scott impersonation

"It's totally up to me"... Modano sounds like a cocky girl with a bunch of guys chasing her. Then it all ends when she says, "Well I don't want you anyway".
-
Without a legit source this is nothing.

I guess it really depends on where he gets to play. I think Bertuzzi's play will falter during the season, and Hudler might get some more time on the 2nd line. I'm certain he'll end up with time on the PP too. I think 50-60 is a safe bet.
-
At this point I'd be pretty content with signing Modano and Exelby. It's not what I expected going into the off-season, but I think both moves could contribute to the success of the team next year. Plus, I made these moves on NHL 10, so they must be true.

Agree 100%. I was really hoping Ericsson would develop a knack for it as the season went on, but truth be told he plays a pretty soft game most of the time. It's a shame considering how big he is.

Don't feel too bad... I spaced out and suggested Delvecchio's #10.

What do you mean? The only thing I left out is +/- and I wouldn't use it for or against my case... What else should I have used then? Edit: I included blocked shots, which Miller has the edge in. What I included I figured would be the important stats for a 4th line player.
-
To be fair, Modano still put up 30 points in 59 games while being bumped around all over the line-up. At times he was stuck on a lines with Barch (6 points), Brunnstrom (11 points) and Petersen (15 points). I feel confident in thinking that he could put up 40+ points on a third line with Cleary and Hudler/Bert.

With the contracts for Helm and Abdelkader taking a bit longer, and the speculation that they will be longer term deals, it makes me think both will be anywhere from 850K to 1 million... Edit: Also, let's not forget that the RFA's need to be given a raise under the CBA. The exact percentages are somewhere in another thread.

I copied down some tidbits of information that Tie Domi just discussed in his Off The Record. I rushed it, so some of it may not make sense, but here it goes: Tie Domi said... -Learned that Probert became a complete hockey player, and made others better around him. Made a lot of sacrifices. -Probert brought respect to every team he was on. -Doesn't wanna talk about the fighting, just Probie the husband and father. -On Battle of the Blades he saw the mutual respect they had for one another. Said he always wanted to be like Bob. Said Probert was like a teddy bear and made everyone laugh. -Said Probie was very humble and didn't want other making a big deal of his accomplishments. -Spoke of a moment at a U2 concert where Probie held up his cell phone for his wife to hear the music with him. -Said Probie was like a big kid, always liked being happy and making other happy as well. -Said he wouldn't do Battle of the Blades until Probie confirmed he was going to as well. -Doesn't think of the legendary fights they had because he learned about what a great person Probie was off the ice. That's about it. It was a nice little interview that went beyond just the type of player/enforcer Probert was...

Tie Domi is about to talk right now on Off The Record on TSN.

Maybe I'm being a homer, because Z is my favorite NHL player period, but I'd rather keep Z. Getzlaf can be a force to be sure, but I think the way Z carries the puck, his shot and his defensive ability are too attractive and well-suited for the Red Wings' style of play. Getzlaf works well for Anaheim's style, and Z works well for Detroit's.

Really? Because I think Eaves busted his ass off last year. He reminds me a Cleary, only to a lesser scale. I think with some security he could become a fixture on the 3rd/4th line for us in the future, but for now he'll likely sign for a year or two. Mursak's style is nothing like Eaves'. Mursak is a goal scorer, and he's got blazing speed, almost comparable to Helm's. Mursak put up 24 goals last season with the Griffins, and if he can continue to adapt the physical aspects of the AHL he will continue to improve. The only think the two players have in common is that they're right handed. This I can agree with, but I also think that it will be difficult to get any kind of compensation for our leftovers. I think that one or two of Miller, Ritola and/or Meech could be move for possibly a late round pick.
-
I have a feeling that Ritola is going to be waived... he hasn't shown much scoring prowess at the AHL level (back-to-back 42 point seasons), and he isn't overly physical. I think he's going to have to really impress at training camp if he's going to even have a chance of NHL play for the Red Wings. I thought maybe Ritola would have a chance at the 3rd line center if he played well enough, but Babcock's comments about Abdelkader combined with the possibility of Modano coming to Detroit really seems to leave him on the outside looking in.
-
All Eaves/Miller comparisons aside, I thought he was going to command something like 750K, so the price tag is a pleasant surprise. I wonder if Detroit is going to try to carry 14 forwards instead of 13... Huds-Modano-Cleary Abs-Helm-Eaves Draper, Miller Wouldn't be a terrible idea, as it would give the 4th line some internal competition.

Just sign the contract Mikey!... Throw that pitch out with a Red Wings uni on

You said Eaves didn't outperform Miller in any way... he did, even if it was ever so slightly. I'd still take Eaves over Miller ten times over. Also, I mentioned better hockey sense and shot. You can't prove those things with statistics. I'd also argue that as a right-handed shot, Eaves is more valuable to the Red Wings because it gives them another look. It's fine to like Miller, but Eaves did outperform him in a few fields.
-
Eaves: 22 Points 128 Hits, 44 Blocked Shots 2 Fights 2:16 PK Time On Ice Per Game Miller: 19 Points 97 Hits, 47 Blocked Shots 0 Fights 1:49 PK Time On Ice Per Game I'll take the first guy, thanks. Not to mention that Eaves possesses better hockey sense and a much better shot than Miller as well. I'm fine with the Miller signing, but Eaves is definitely the better player in my eyes.

The guy who wrote that "Mo signed" admitted it was a personal text and apologized for being wrong.

Can't complain about the cap hit at all, but the forward logjam is kind of ridiculous.
