1. He doesn't He's a poor man's Patty Eaves. Eaves outclasses Miller in every field imaginable. 2. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Filppula, Cleary Helm, etc... for fun.

Right now I think most of the forward talent is in need of more time at the AHL level anyway. The only ones who could use it would be Ritola and Abdelkader. Adding Modano in, Abs should see some time on the LW of Helm-Eaves, which to me is a very promising and energetic 4th line. By 2nd PP I assume you figure he'll be on the blue line? I wonder how that'd work out.

That's an understatement and a half. Detroit needs a bigger guy who's willing to hit, block shots and play in the corners.

Seems like everything is falling into place to make Mikey a Red Wing

The only thing that's been diluted is Meech's talent... amirite?

I don't usually wish bad on other teams, but the Chi Town trolls have me annoyed still. Let's hope they have to ride Huet and the Wings take the Central crown back

I would think anything ending in 9 or maybe 18 if Malts is gone for sure. For some reason I feel like 39 would suit him. Then again, he could show a former Wings player *cough*J-Wills*cough* how to wear 29

Kovalchuk's bread and butter has been manning the blue line on the power play for years. He's got such a good slapshot, and when he's given the room he delivers. This isn't something the Devils came up with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOgV4jdAhd0

I never thought I'd see the day where I'd describe $50,000 as "no big deal".

Agreed. Miller is essentially a left-handed Eaves, minus the rocket of a shot that Eaves possesses. He helped revamp the PK, so I'll give props there, but it'd be nice to add even more offensive depth to the team. If we can add Modano we have, perhaps, the deepest set of Top 9 forwards in the league.

I think we might be fine at the forward position. If we could somehow land Doughty or Weber I'd jump for joy... Also, it kind of got overlooked, but what do you guys think Howard could command once he's a UFA next off-season? I think somewhere around 3 million is possible, especially if he avoids the sophomore slump.

Hahaha... oh man... embarrassing. I guess I spaced out there, my bad. I stand by 18

This is a shame... RIP Probert.

It's also possible they could try to loan him out to a KHL team. I'm pretty sure it's been done before. If I'm not mistaken, Chicago was going to do the same thing with Khabibulin.

From what I've seen out of him in the playoffs, I think he just tries too hard to do it all on his own. If he learns to play a better team player, his game will be better overall. That being said, he's still the 2nd leading goal scorer behind Ovy since Alex entered the league. Edit: How can they even fit that contract in? They have 4.7 million left and 18 players signed. Maybe if they shed Zubrus, but even then... maybe Rolston too.

I just heard this from a friend... I really hope he turns out to be OK.

This is exactly the way I read his comments. It almost feels like he's posturing here, seeing if he can get a better deal somewhere else with better minutes, but maybe it's more showing Dallas that someone still wants him. He could just be bitter too, who knows. Also, I doubt his jersey number is a huge issue. He could end up wearing #10 or #18... or something. My only true gripe with Modano is that he looks like Jon Heder.
-
Wow... craziness. So like 8.570 per year, eesh.
-
Just keep in mind that we're going to have to sign Howard next off-season too. I wonder how much he'll command if he has a similar season this year.
-
I think adding Modano and getting Abdelkader to drop the mitts more often could be the best option left. It would give Detroit some of the better forward depth and the league, and could allow lines to be juggled if necessary. In terms of defense I wouldn't hate it if Lilja came back. Sutton's a pipe dream... I'd give Shaone Morrisonn a look, but I think he could be costly too. Exelby is a little more realistic. Someone like Jay McKee could come cheap and would block a ton of shots on the PK. There are still some solid options out there for a bottom pairing, defensive d-man.

I think someone liked the Getzlaf/Ryan skit from the NHL Award Show a little too much...
-
I like the idea of it for sure, as guys like Ericsson and Kindl will need the confidence going forward. Being paired with capable veterans would only help their growth. But as you said, it's probably not very likely. I still think the Wings will have to sign a steady #5-6 guy and rotate Ericsson/Kindl.
-
I don't think he could do that... but he could donate his beard instead of hair.
-
I'm not all for Mara, but he certainly seems like the kind of guy Kenny could go after.

I really wanted Winchester... bah.
