Easiest way to check how many Lebda's exist is using hockeyDB. I just checked and there's also an "Arik Lebda" who was born in 1984, and is the older brother of Brett. I still think Brett is the one going over, though, because Arik played in the AAHL last year.

Absolutely agree, but I also think a season without injury will do him tons of good.

Rick Jeanneret /end sarcasm. I can't help but like Mickey, and I was a fan of Thorne too. I like the Rangers broadcast team too, but their names escape me at the moment.

I think the only thing that would put Mair ahead of others mentioned is that he can play center if needed. Other than that, guys like Nystrom and Winchester are superior in age, hitting, blocking, etc. He's pretty close to Asham in terms of numbers, though. Don't get me wrong, I'd likely take him if one of those three weren't available.

Would a real gritty fighter help or hurt this team?

I'm all for the Red Wings being a winning team, but a part of me wants to see them really stick up for themselves too. I don't want a straight-up goon, but someone who'll punish other players and drop the gloves once in awhile would be really exciting to me. And no, I won't go become a Flyers fan, lol. -
Because he's the mother****** Demolition Man...

I think Toews is a great player, and will end up being a superstar. Any reason the guy is "overrated" is because players generally get compared with the best player who plays a similar style. Obviously Toews isn't Yzerman at this point, but he does a lot of the stuff Yzerman did in terms of style. I'd actually like to see him succeed, as I like him as a player. Now Kane on the other hand... he's a ****** nozzle. If I'm not mistaken he has some kind of awful mullet, and even has designs shaved into the sides of his hair. That's pretty much the hairstyle that grants you entry to ****** city.

I agree on Nichol's size, but I think out of all the UFA's he reminds me the most of Drake. Ultimately, I'd take Nystrom, Asham, Winchester, Arty then Nichol in that order. -

I would be comfortable with any one of the following: Artyukhin - UFA/27 years old - 54 games played 16 points 2 fights 127 hits & 10 blocked shots Asham - UFA/32 years old - 72 games played 24 points 14 fights 92 hits & 16 blocked shots Nichol - UFA/35 years old - 79 games played 19 points 4 fights 226 hits & 36 blocked shots Nystrom - UFA/27 years old - 82 games played 19 points 6 fights 117 hits & 51 blocked shots Winchester - UFA/29 years old - 64 games played 8 points 10 fights 143 hits & 12 blocked shots I think out of these 5 guys Nystrom or Asham would be the best fit for Detroit's system. I included Artyukhin as well because he's only a year removed from a 249 hit/7 fight season, and the guy is huge (6'4, 255 lbs.). Like I said though, any of these guys I would be cool with. PS: If I'm off on any of the info just correct me. -
Yep, the site I was looking at UFA's on didn't have his new contract. My bad.
-
I'd be happy with him... or Nichol, Begin or Artyukhin.
-
My wishlist would be one of the following: Sutton, Seidenberg, Wallin or Exelby
-
Wow, looks like Philly forgot they were playing today.
-
Ugh, I really can't stand their goal song. So annoying.
-
I thought the same thing at first, and I would have continued if Holland hadn't said he was looking for a #6 guy. I'd like to see Sutton or Exelby, but Sutton may want too much $ and Exelby has had some serious injury issues. Either guy is a beast when it comes to dishing out punishment and clearing the net, something Detroit sorely lacks.

Honestly, I wouldn't even have an issue with Brendan Smith if it didn't happen multiple times. The kid's got tons of talent and it'd be a shame if it got wasted because he got wasted.
-
Emmerton needs to have a better season next year. So far he hasn't shown much to merit getting a spot on the Red Wings in the near future. It would be nice to see him succeed, though. The team could use a 3rd line center.
-
I had this exact thought, but Chara is going to want to leave Boston. There's no way they won't throw a blank cheque at him.
-
I'd trade pretty much anyone to get Fowler. The guy's so good offensively and at holding the blue line. I've been able to watch him in Windsor for quite awhile. He wouldn't be a Lids replacement, but he's going to be very good IMO. As far as Boston goes, I think they would entertain offers, especially because of their salary situation. Maybe attach Ryder and the pick.
-
I'm not sure how he'll do next year, but I def wouldn't wish ill-will on the guy. He just didn't fit in with the team and system. If he can do well elsewhere (especially in the East) good on him.

Bertuzzi states he will either stay with wings or retire
Jesusberg replied to Lidstrom for life's topic in General
And no one knows that more than Cleary. I'll bet any money he lives by his words and trains the hardest he ever has this off-season. As for having a scoring 3rd line, I think we have the talent here already. A line of Cleary-Abdelkader-Bertuzzi could do some damage in my estimation. Cleary will be hungry to bounce back. Bertuzzi, while inconsistent, is still very much a scoring threat. And as far as Abdelkader, I think he's got untapped offensive potential. I've had discussions with scouts and other people who've watched him in college and GR and they feel that he could end up being a very solid 3rd liner. I'd even venture to say that Ritola could surprise some people too... maybe work himself into that spot instead of Abs. Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Mule/Homer Hudler-Filppula-Homer/Mule Cleary-Abs/Ritola-Bertuzzi Abs/Draper-Helm-Eaves I'm actually pretty ok with that team, esp living in a salary cap world. I also have soft spot for a line of Abdelkader-Helm-Eaves. I think it could be very effective should Ritola surprise people and do well for himself. -
Really glad to see... I think the Powerplay lines will look something like: Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Hudler-Filppula-Franzen I really like that balance. Depending on whether or not they sign Bertuzzi, I think they'll have 1 or 2 guys (Bert & Cleary) who can jump into the top 6 in case of injuries. What I don't understand is how Holland figures he can sign some grit. We'd have to lose 1 of Eaves, Miller or Ritola (or Bert too). I would much rather keep Eaves than Miller, and I think maybe Ritola could center the 3rd line. I think people are undervaluing his overall game. The team has put so much time into his development that I see them hanging onto him, at least for awhile. I'd like to see something like... Hudler/Bertuzzi-Zetterberg-Franzen Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Bertuzzi/Hudler-Ritola-Cleary Abdelkader-Helm-Eaves Draper & (UFA Enforcer/Grit) The 2nd line looks a bit weak to me, so if they drop Bert and Lilja, etc. maybe they could lure someone like Tanguay for cheap. Either way, still excited about Homer, as the articles that came out seemed to indicate he wanted a raise.

I'm down for Boogaard. They can tie him to Pav's right leg and just have him growl at people.
-
Please, please don't be over 2 million...
-
I don't think he's greedy, or an *******, or that he's sucking the life out of the team. That being said, I really wish he would have taken around 5 million. The team showed that they lack depth at the forward position, and an extra 1-1.5 million could go a long way. Either way, I'm definitely happy to have Lidstrom back. It's a big relief.
