Leino leaves and the magic begins... just saying
-
I agree with this. I'd rather have a 6th/7th guy who makes bone-headed plays sometimes but is scrappy instead of a guy who makes boneheaded plays and is softer than pudding. Also... his initials backwards are T.K.O. Think about it.
-
Tollefsen is a decent enough hitter, but he seems to have a lot of defensive lapses and he can't put numbers up. I'd assume that he'll be waived and sent to GR, as the whole point is to clear cap space for Franzen.
-
Do not want... let's just live vicariously through Toronto and get excited about their moves. The only thing Holland needs to do right now is clear cap space.
-
Tag. He's it.
-
He's going to put up a brick wall...
-
I agree 100%. This whole situation really makes me feel like Kovie is KHL bound after this season. He turned down HUGE money, so the only thing left is that he wants to be in a specific place. Atlanta's not exactly a top-tier organization. I could see him staying with New Jersey, though. They have a very good organization with a good GM. Something about the whole thing just screams rental though... agreed.

I've been saying Leino/Lebda/May for awhile now, because I assumed that taking on Miller through waivers gave us some kind of cushion. I guess I was mistaken? Since that won't work... Williams/Lebda/May seems fine to me. Any combo that includes Lebda, really.
-
Be nice if the Wings could land him in the off-season somehow. Pretty much impossible to get him at the deadline or anyone else for that matter given the current cap situation. I'll be happy if we waive Leino and Lebda. Addition by subtraction if you ask me.
-
Umm... Ryan grabbed and held the stick? Oh, I forgot. We're the Red Wings.
-
Honestly... this is ******* beyond ridiculous. The Wings have lost so many calls on goals. f*** you NHL. Such ******* bulls***.
-
That's something Ericsson needs. Gotta use his frame.

Ok, well Hudler and Filppula were "tearing it up" in the AHL at 22 years of age. In the previous years Hudler put up liek 40ish points or so, while Flip was playing in the Finnish league. At 19, Tatar still has 3 years to make that pace, and he's looked pretty good for a young guy in a men's league. As far as Smith goes, he's playing well in his third year of college hockey, but is pretty short of his potential. So far he has been underwhelming and has a lot of off-ice issues. On the other hand, Nyquist just jumped into college hockey and has done well right off the bat. As far as Smith working the PP in the future, it all depends really. He's improved greatly, but he seems to be a slow learner at the same time.

And I honestly feel that Lebda would be better suited on a team that needs more speed on their back-end. As someone has mentioned, the Islanders. Though, I also wouldn't be surprised if Chicago tried to sign him in the off-season (barring and praying that we don't) for about 750K or so.
-
Meech. He's got the lower salary and is a little more versatile. They both still kind of suck, but I'll take the piece of poo that doesn't cost 650K. EDIT: Which would you prefer to stay as the 7th d-man once Lilja is back? Brett Lebda [ 1 ] ** [7.14%] Derek Meech [ 13 ] ** [92.86%] Total Votes: 15 Good old LGW knows how to add about as well as these two know how to play.
-
Hey uh, Anaheim... Didn't Hiller play last night? Got a shut out? Give him a rest, try your new goalie guy. His name is Toskala.
-
In terms of what the team needs to clear, Khan says right in his article that once Franzen gets back the team will bee 700K over the cap. Add Lilja's 1.250 million and that means the team needs to clear 1.950 million. Simply getting rid of Leino, May and Meech isn't enough. If Lebda is sent through waivers instead of Meech the combination comes to exactly 1.950 million. As much as people want Meech to go, he makes peanuts and as such isn't enough to make the room needed.

From teams that don't need to re-stock on prospects like Detroit does, sure. I highly doubt Holland would give up a 2nd for Poni. We gave a 2nd and a 4th for Brad Stuart, who's turned into a pretty big part of the team. I don't see Ponikarovsky having the same impact. Mostly because I don't think he would fit into our system very well.
-
I agree that Williams + Leino isn't a good proposal, but I definitely don't think Ponikarovsky is worth a 2nd. That's just my opinion, though.
-
Didn't post in that thread, but I was wrong about Leino, Filppula and Franzen (can't blame me for Franzen) doing better than they have, and then Howard doing way worse than he has.
-
If the Wings win all three, I'll bring a fat chick home next weekend
-
If the season ended right now, I would think it would be between Duchene, Myers and Howard... For the record, I was also very against Howard early in the year. I felt that his inconsistency during his time in the AHL would plague him. I'm certainly eating crow, because the guy is 5th in save percentage and 7th in G.A.A.
-
Do his arms and hands work? Because what we need is someone willing to shoot the puck.
-
...already? But he just got to Toronto
-
I don't hate Filppula at all, but I think if he could be packaged in the off-season for a pure sniper, we should explore it. We have a lot of puck distributors on the team, but not really anyone who wants to shoot relentlessly. The team needs that.
