I love how all the 'tough' Wings fans are so precious and loving when it comes to fighters. So precious. At all cost you will ignore facts to make yourselves feel better. Downey is a great fighter we all get it... Phoenix will use his leadership.. we all get it... He is a terrible player even for enforcer standards and is not a hard enough hitter or tough enough in the corners to be a grinder.

Im not anti downey, I just think how s***ty of a player he is doesn't make up for his fighting and leadership. I'd like him in GR again mentoring the young players.

Even so, Helm was hitting at a rate of like 5 hits per shift this playoffs and killed penalties like a freak, Downey is prone to coughing the puck up and getting hit, you cant compare them at all. And as for draper he is good on faceoffs, he is better than meech but meech can play d, isn't a pest like maltby though id prefer him over maltby, and didn't knock people into space with hits like drake.

If we had room for an enforcer... I still think he should be in GR teaching guys like Abyy how to at least stand up for themselves. he is a great guy and everything but for real people don't try to butter him up as at least an ok player who didn't get smoked every time he made a hit or didn't skate with his head down and get smoked that way.

Downey always got nailed whenever he went to hit somebody, I was always liek "oh yes Downey for a big hit" then he would fall down on his ass because he has no concept on what having momentum is and hitting a guy when he doesn't see you completely.

Hah my point is that was every hit for downey, the only guy i ever remember him catching good was big nasty kyle wellwood, take it easy dude, he is a good fighter but as an overall player he is absolute garbage.

he made an ass out of himself, plain and simple, he gave momentum to the opposition, it was plain and clear that he was affected by the hit as well.

how could you remember it if he didnt get his s*** scrambled, otherwise it would have been a routine hit, either way, it was a terrible play by downey

For the record I wasn't saying they were similar I was actually pointing out to the original person who compared them that they had different roles which they obviously do and I already mentioned them. And the incident was 2 years ago in chicago downey goes to hit Brent Seabrook and gets the worst of it, he gets "dazed" not like what havlat got or anything. edit: one of these though harder and Downey was coming at half speed like he does on all checks and he got downey right in the chops, and seabrook did not fall down:

2 years ago he was going to hit seabrook and did get dizzied he came to the bench with wobbly legs, but that wasn't the only incident where he went to check someone and got owned, that was just worst case.
