One more thing. I don't like Babcock's style of offense at all. It seems like all we do is triangle offense or cycle to some guy open in the corner to shoot while no one is in front of the net. I'm a huge fan of the crash the net offense. Burst into the zone with speed. maybe a pass or two. Throw it on the net and have the three forwards charging there looking for rebounds. The point is that we will make our own breaks and create scoring chances. They might not always be top quality, but at least they will be scoring chances instead of mindless cycling.

Howard is average. We all know that. The problem is when everyone starts thinking that he is this elite goaltender who is the next coming of Brodeur. Everyone inclunding Ken Holland, Mike Babcock, and our entire defense corps. The team plays like they can do what ever the f*** they want because Howard will be there to bail them out. But he can't. He's not Jonathon Quick. He's not Pekka Rinne. He's not Tim Thomas. If we want to go anywhere with an average goalie we need a STRONG defense. And I don't just mean some hybrid defenders that earn their keep through points. I mean actual DEFENDERS.

1) Win game 5 2) Win game 6 3) Win game 7 Oh and murdering Pekka Rinne while he sleeps will go a long way too.

It's a real easy formula. Great defense + good goalie = Success. In fact you can even reverse it to good goalie + great defense = success. Our team is too offensively oriented I think. Heck even our defense is built around offense, not defense. I think we really need a defensive overhaul this season. If we get a great defense then it won't matter when our streaky offense can only put up two in a night. That two will be the only two we need.

He may be paid on average, but our defense corps is currently built as if he were an elite goalie. What amazing defender do we have on the blue line again? Aging/injured Lidstrom? Stuart who is already half way to San Jose? As much as I really like Ericsson if say he's a good defender I'm sure I'll be -50 by midnight. The point is our defense is too average at well defending. And since our defense is average, and our goalie is average, we're going to need to be scoring a lot or we're going to lose a lot. And that's what's happening right now. We're in a scoring funk. Not to mention we're facing one of the true elite goalies of the NHL.

I'll say it again and get another ten negs. Howard is average. That's all he'll ever be. So since we dumped all our eggs in the Howard basket we NEED a huge defensive overhaul or we're going to keep repeating the one and dones for a long time.

Pittsburgh is a train wreck and I'm loving every minute of it.

Anyone who even has to ask this question should not be writing about hockey.

1) Come out strong and play a full sixty minutes of high energy hockey 2) Match their physicality with some of our own so they know we aren't backing down 3) Get an early lead. Nashville is a defensive team so it will be a lot easier to stop them from coming back than to play from behind. *edit* 4) Throw puck at the damn net. Stop trying to set up the fancy passes. They are all over it. Throw the puck at the net and grind away will be the only way to win.

I wouldn't say Cleary has been fantastic but he has been working his ass off it shows. Definitely a step up from the regular season. Emmerton too has really impressed me so far. It's like they got together and decided to say "SCREW YOU LGW". Also I would change Bertuzzi and Franzen but other than that it looks good.
